Do any of you guys collect baseball cards?
Mark P

I haven't collected cards since I was a kid.  But, I think a couple of binders full of 1990-93 O-Pee-Chee cards are still somewhere in my parents' basement

Why do teams not make trades now, like in they did in the old days to try to stay in the playoff race? Waiting until late July is way too late for many teams. Trades to help both teams?.
Mark P
8:43
I mean, it's not easy to make trades.  There are so many factors beyond just a simple need-for-need that it takes a lot for two (or more) teams to line up on everything.

Do you think the royals will capitalize on this good season and get a outfielder that can hit and bullpen help. Right now they have the second wild card spot in the American League.
Mark P
8:45
The Royals are another team that isn't going to empty the farm system immediately, but someone like a Rooker would be such a big boost to their struggling outfield.  I wonder if KC could come up with a package that would entice the A's, since Rooker could help the Royals for years beyond just 2024

Could the Braves actually end up as sellers??
Should the Braves trade Austin Riley and/or Michael Harris just to shake up this team?
Mark P

a) no chance
b) no chance

Do you think marlins trade jazz ???
Jazz
8:46
Am I staying or going?
Mark P
8:47
Since Jazz is controlled through 2026, the Marlins aren't in any hurry.  Also, he's only been okay this season, so the Fish might wait to move him when he's playing better and has more value
Bendix
8:48
Am I doing a full on rebuild or partial in order to compete in 2025 or 2026?
Mark P
8:49
Somewhere in the middle of full-on and partial.  It won't be a complete fire sale and a five-year retooling or anything, but right now Bendix is open to moving probably just about anyone on Miami's roster.  If the goal is to recreate the Rays' methods, that won't happen overnight.

SP, hitter, or both for Cleveland’s trade deadline plans.  Been a fun year.

With attendance up 100K and growing PLEASE PEASE PLEASE tell me the Guardians will make a couple of trades to solidify the team!  I would LOVE Luzardo and Rooker! We have the #1 Draft pick...so trade a few prospects and go for it now!!
Mark P
8:53
I've written this before, but it isn't in the Guardians' nature to really go full-bore on a deadline push.  Getting even one of Luzardo or Rooker would represent a change in how Cleveland usually operates, and in Luzardo's case, I'm not sure the Guards ever trade for a frontline pitcher when they've had so much success in building pitching from within
It could be that this year's unexpected success changes their perspective a bit.  And, maybe you're onto something about the unexpected windfall of winning the draft lottery perhaps making the Guards a bit more open to move an in-house prospect.

Heliot Ramos an all Star?
Mark P
8:57
I guess there's still enough time to him to get into the conversation, though it'll be an easier case if he keeps hitting like this.  Ramos has been a big silver lining to the Giants' swath of outfield injuries, to the point where they absolutely can't take him out of the lineup.

Did you see Vlad’s brutal at bat in extra innings today when the pitcher had been erratic and walking everyone? He swung and missed on three pitches. How was that possible? What’s wrong with him?

Why does everyone talk about Vlad being traded? He's actually been doing very well recently
Mark P
9:00
.939 OPS over his last 163 plate appearances.  Vlad will always have a few rough at-bats like that one today, but he has quietly gotten himself on track after his cold start to the season.  He is the least of Toronto's offensive concerns right now.

Do you think there's a good chance the angels will end up at the bottom of the AL?
Mark P

Nobody is catching the White Sox for that "prize"

The bees please want to know if you think there’s any chance Soto follows Arson Judge to San Francisco
Mark P
9:04
There have been some reports that Soto would prefer to play on the East Coast, all things being equal.  So that might limit his market to some extent, but I absolutely think the Giants will make a heavy bid for his services.

Obvious bullpen needs for the O’s, but what are odds they take a proven hitter?
Mark P
9:06
Pretty low.  Offense isn't really an issue for Baltimore, plus there's room for internal improvement. And since the league-wide offensive slump might raise the price tag on obtaining batters at the deadline, the O's are much more likely to focus on their clearer needs of pitching.

Matt manning is a MLB ready talented arm that has spent a lot of the season in Triple-A due to solid Detroit pitching depth. Plus, DET has other talented young pitching prospects. Is it fair to say at least one of these young starters get moved in July for a bat? Or is the plan to use the young depth to replace Flaherty and Maeda in 2025 and beyond?
Mark P
9:10
Maeda is signed through 2025, but your overall point stands that Detroit sees their young arms primarily as future rotation replacements, rather than necessarily trade bait.  The Tigers could move someone from their second tier of SP prospects because they have so many* in surplus, but they'll be strategic in how many pitchers they move

9:12
if the Jays were to offload Springer, do they necessarily have to attach a prospect or 2 to get that contract off their hands?
Mark P
9:12
Either that or take another large contract back.  Neither scenario is very appealing.

How great of a game caller must Martin Maldonado be to be rocking an .071 BA and still be getting multiple starts a week?
Mark P
9:15
Maldonado wasn't signed for his offense anyway, but he is just looking entirely overmatched at the plate at this point.  As much as the Sox feel (and with cause) that having him at catcher helps develop their pitchers, getting Korey Lee as much playing time as possible also helps Lee's development as the catcher of the present and future

Thoughts on longtime Bluejay Cavan Biggio being DFAd?
