He was struggling so badly that it wasn't a surprise.  This is the third season in the last four that Biggio has been a decidedly below average hitter, and there was really no point for the Jays in keeping on the roster when a hot Triple-A hitter like Horwitz was deserving of a shot
Corbin Caroll

Has a ROY ever been sent down to the minors in their sophomore year?
Mark P
9:17
Sure, plenty of times

Is there any reason for the Angels to not clean out the roster come the trade deadline?  Is there any point to hanging onto anyone?  Maybe O’Hoppe?  Best trade chips???
Mark P
9:20
The Angels (under Moreno's ownership) have always resisted the idea of doing a total teardown and rebuild, as much as it might be overdue.  So don't count on it this July.

If Amador holds his own does this spell the end of the attempts to squeeze a full time player out of Brendan Rodgers? It feels like he’s been given more than a few shots
Mark P
9:22
If Amador looks ok in however long this call-up ends up being, yeah, 2024 might well be Rodgers' last year in Denver.

What’s the difference between a TJ surgery and the new internal brace procedure? Is it going to help keep pitchers on the field?
Mark P
9:23
This is very much the medical dummy's way of describing it, but a brace procedure is something akin to a patch-up, whereas a TJ repairs a damaged UCL entirely.
9:24
The brace is still new enough that it remains to be seen how these procedures might last in the long-term, but you're already seeing a lot of pitchers adopt the brace rather than a full TJ, in order to shave a few months off their recovery time.
9:25
I think we should also track down the first pitcher to get a brace surgery, so we can name it after him a la Tommy John

Can MLB ever utilize the loan model that English soccer uses? E.g teams out of the running loan top players for remainder of season for prospects, but players are returned to original team at end of season?
Mark P
9:25
That type of transaction is so unique to soccer that I don't see it ever translating to the North American team sports.
Matt
9:26
Can PCA actually hit or is he basically Kiermaier?
Mark P
9:27
If Crow-Armstrong ends up having Kiermaier's career, that would be an awesome outcome for him.
East Coast Soto
9:27
2025 is the Nats’ 20th anniversary, Corbin is off the books, Wood and possibly Crews will be up, and the Lerners haven’t been afraid of big contracts. (Including offering over $400MM to Soto.)
Mark P
9:28
Soto reuniting with the Nationals would be a lot of fun, and I'd love to see it happen.

"Mark, is this because you're a Jays fan and want Soto out of New York's lineup?"

Uh, um, er, no....
Brew Crew

What player should Brewers get to try for World Series?
Mark P
9:31
Getting any kind of rotation help is the obvious answer, and a frontline ace or pseudo-ace would help make Milwaukee make some serious noise in the postseason.

Now, obviously those kinds of pitchers aren't easy to find, and one can only wonder what might have been if Woodruff hadn't gotten injured.  But on paper, the Brewers would be a great fit for Luzardo, if a match can be worked out with Miami

Top 3 ballparks you've never visited but would like to?

Dodger Stadium, Petco Park, and Camden Yards

Honourable mention to Kauffman Stadium and Citizens Bank Park

What are possible landing spots for Brent Rooker? What would it take to get him in a trade?
Mark P
9:36
It isn't a stretch to say that Rooker would fit on about 25 teams?  Given how many clubs are technically still in contention, and how many have clear needs on offense.

With this in mind, he might be the low-key biggest trade asset that could realistically be available.  Though he's controlled through 2027, he is also turning 30 in November, so he might not be in the Athletics' real long-term plans.
9:37
If he does end up being dealt, I think we could be surprised at just how much of a bounty the A's could land in return
From the future
9:38
In three months, when playoffs spots are set, which team from ALC is left off?
Mark P
9:38
The White Sox!
9:40
...in a more serious answer, the Royals and Guardians are both playing so well that I think I'd have them both in a playoff bracket for the time being.  The Twins and Tigers both need more consistent offense to keep pace in either the division or in the wild card hunt
That said, the majority of AL teams also have losing records, and the Twins hold a wild card spot right now

As I watch Judge hit #24, not sure why you don't think he's definitely not hitting 60 again.
Mark P
9:41
Because it's incredibly hard to hit 60 homers in a season.  History will dictate that it's unlikely for that reason alone.

Though if I had to pick any player in the league to hit 60, it would be Judge
2025
9:42
How does this draft look?
Mark P
9:43
Way too early to tell, given how the top prospects have a lot more baseball to play, or how injuries or breakouts could very well shake up the rankings entirely
Matt
9:43
Feels like Cubs need to make a prospects for established star
Mark P
9:45
There aren't a ton of established stars available at the moment.  Chicago needs to get everyone healthy and out of this near team-wide slump that has overtaken the roster in the last few weeks, then evaluate just how rough things are with this lineup
9:46
The catching position is a clear weak link, but the Cubs' bigger issue is that they already have a lot of established players in place who can't be easily moved or benched....but those guys aren't hitting much
