He's hurt, out until at least mid-July with a quad strain

What’s the ceiling for a possible prospect return for WAS on Kyle Finnegan? Guy is having an outstanding season and bullpen needy clubs could see a fit.
Mark P
9:50
He's controlled through 2025 and is indeed pitching quite well, with the caveat that he is getting a ton of luck in the form of a .155 BABIP and a 92% strand rate.  His 3.37 SIERA is still pretty good, but the Nats shouldn't be expecting a huge haul if they made Finnegan available at the deadline

Should the league revise and/or redo 'blocking' rules to enforce them better?
Mark P
9:52
In terms of blocking the plate?  I'd say yes, just because there's still some grey area over what constitutes proper blocking or a proper slide.

IF the Jays fall outta the race and do decide to trade ONE of Vlad Jr or Bo. Who stays and who goes, and why? And whoever stays, what type of extension do you think they get if they produce similiar stats the rest of the season?
Mark P
9:56
I kind of doubt either are extended, frankly.  Both players have been inconsistent enough that if I'm the Jays, I'm not sure I feel great about committing $200MM or whatever it takes in a long-term deal.

So with this in mind and in your scenario where the Jays are willing to move one but not both, I'd say Vlad might go.  He's hitting better right now, and 1B is an easier position to fill than shortstop.

What kind of extension do you think that Garret Crochet should/could get to be on the White Sox for the next 4 years?
Mark P
9:58
There seems to be a much better chance Crochet is dealt than extended

Luis Robert Jr and Michael Kopech to the Phillies for Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford. Who says no?
Mark P
9:59
White Sox would want more than that for Robert alone

What are the tigers looking for from me down in Toledo?
Mark P
10:01
Fewer strikeouts, more contact, and basically any signs of the Torkelson from the last half of the 2023 season.

It's too early to write off Torkelson, given his age and the fact that he's had some success already in the majors.  As I wrote in the last chat, however, the Tigers could conceivably be open to moving Torkelson to make an upgrade to their 2024 team, if for no other reason than Scott Harris wasn't the exec who drafted Torkelson so he probably has less of a connection to him
Disappointed
10:03
Do you think Washington will get an extension on his contract as angels manager?
Mark P
10:05
I don't think the Angels' struggles are at all Washington's fault.  But, since he is only signed through 2025 and I find it very hard to believe Anaheim will have it turned around by then, Washington doesn't have much leeway for himself
Sad Reds Fan
10:05
Whats more telling for this Reds team: previous awful cold streak or current hot streak??
Mark P
10:08
I'll go with the cliche answer of "somewhere in between."  If the lineup can balance out so that their current status of almost everyone hitting kinda okay continues, "kinda okay" is still better than a lot of other teams in this pitching-dominant season.

I think it was also around a year ago that the Reds went on their big winning streak, so who knows, maybe better times are again just around the corner

Hopefully the Tigers will extend Jack Flaherty , you thoughts?
Mark P
10:10
As noted earlier, Detroit has a lot of interesting young arms in the pipeline that are probably earmarked as Flaherty's replacement.  Plus, you'd have to think that if the Tigers are going to spend big to lock up a starter, it'll be Skubal over everyone else at this point.

But, letting Flaherty walk in free agency and recouping a qualifying-offer draft pick is a very nice return on the Tigers' investment.

Went a little over two hours tonight after missing last weekend's chat, but it's time to wrap up the bonus period (or extra innings, if you will).  Thanks to everyone for submitting their questions, and unless we get another evening of multiple teams making prominent roster moves, the Weekend Chat should be back next Sunday.
