Rojas' career track record indicates that some kind of a downturn is coming, but if he plays well enough to even be a part-time shortstop, that at least gives the Dodgers flexibility to move Betts around.
9:38
Adding a versatile utility type at the deadline would also help in this endeavor
TK
9:39
What do you think the Brew Crew do at the deadline?
Mark P
9:40
Add more pitching.  Probably not an ace type, but more mid-range rotation depth arms.  It wouldn't exactly leave the Brewers with clear options to start a playoff game or anything, but it remains to be seen if they'd be willing to pay the prospect cost for a higher-tier arm

The Royals are 5-5 in their last 10. They dropped 2 out of 3 to the Rockies, leaving many fans (including myself), disappointed. Should we expect to be buyers or sellers before the deadline? Or, neither and stand pat?
Mark P
9:42
9-16 in their last 25 for the Royals, and maybe some kind of course correct was inevitable for a team that wasn't really expected to contend this year anyway.

Still, KC's impressive run differential makes me think there's something here, but the outfield and especially the bullpen need some real work.

Cleveland has a strong bullpen. Trading for starting pitching is at premium. Should the Guardians trade for Tanner Scott to make it more elite for October baseball?
Mark P
9:44
Building a super-pen would be an interesting idea, and less expensive (from both a financial and prospect cost) for the Guardians than getting a starter.  It would be kind of fun to see Cleveland again attempt the patchwork pitching concept that almost worked for them in 2016, but the Guards might be better served just going out of their comfort zone and landing a starter

So what's on thr ol Playlist tonight?

Willie Nelson's cover of Coldplay's "The Scientist"

The Royals need a closer. Do you think they go shopping for a Finnegan or Tanner Scott? Or is that too expensive? Maybe a Carlos Estevez could be had?
Mark P
9:47
Estevez would be exactly what the Royals need, and I think I actually like him best of the three names you mentioned since Estevez has fewer red flags
Dodgers first half
9:48
Has been kind of disappointing. What do you see them adding at the deadline?
Mark P
9:49
The fourth-best record in baseball is "kind of disappointing"?

They'll definitely be adding, but the internal upgrades of Betts and the pitchers will also be a big-time boost
Muncy too, even if the reports on his oblique injury just keep getting more disheartening

Do you think there's a good shot Skenes wins NLROY? He's deserving, but the service time bump will definitely hurt Pittsburgh
Mark P
9:50
Skenes has the hype train in his favor, but Imanaga and (the underrated guy we mentioned earlier) Merrill will have something to say about ROY

With all the different lineups the Jays have run out...why hasn't that been discussed as a reason for all their struggles? Continuity is huge to a human and ball players are human...regular playing time is so important....Davis Schneider wins a game with a homer next game on the bench...hard to build a strong base when you play 1 game sit 2 then play 3 then sit 2...thoughts?
Mark P
9:53
It's been discussed, but keep in mind that plenty of successful teams play platoons and matchups way more regularly than the Jays do.

Is Lane Thomas part of the future in DC? Or is he a trade chip?
Mark P
9:57
Thomas is only controlled through 2025, and while injuries have played a factor, his production has taken a step back this year.  My lean is that he'll be traded, but in less of a rebuild move than in a deal for a player who can help the Nationals win as soon as next year.
9:58
For instance, it would be interesting if the Nats moved Thomas to a team that needed outfield help, in exchange for a pitcher who had only one or two remaining years of control.

Who is your favorite “If he never got hurt, he’s likely a Hall of Famer”. Mine’s Nomar.
Mark P

Just think what Roy Hobbs would've done if he hadn't missed 15 years!

Serious answer off the top of my head, and I'm probably overlooking like a hundred more obvious answers, but.....Grady Sizemore

10:03
how well do the Brewers and Jays match up for a trade ??
Mark P
10:04
Kikuchi would be a great help to Milwaukee's rotation, and a Yimi Garcia or a Trevor Richards would likely help out their pen.  The Brewers have been one of Ross Atkins' more frequent trade partners during his tenure with the Jays, and though that was when Stearns was running Milwaukee's front office, Arnold was there too, so it's not like there's no continuity.

Red Sox take 2 of 3 from Yankees - Boston that good or New York gotten bad?
Mark P
10:06
The Red Sox are definitely for real.

The Yankees can right the ship, though there are some real echoes of the 2022 team here --- unbeatable for two months, but then suddenly Judge (and this year Soto) is the only one producing any offense

Why not keep Crochet and Robert as building blocks of the rebuild. They are "proven big leaguers" as opposed to prospects,
Mark P
10:08
Crochet is controlled through 2026, and Robert through 2027 if both of his club options are exercised.

Does anyone think this White Sox roster with so many holes to fill can field a competitive team by the 2026 season?  I highly doubt it.
Tim the brute lute
10:09
Why has the blue jays front office/manager/hitting staff not been terminated? Clearly the message is not resonating
Mark P
10:09
The non-overhaul of the hitting coaches was a big surprise last fall, since that seemed like a pretty obvious change in the wake of declining hitting numbers in 2022, let alone the sharper drop in 2023.
10:10
Clearly some big changes are on the way in Toronto, since this year's disappointment is an unavoidable wakeup call.  Schneider and the coaching staff are in hot water, and it's hard to see Atkins sticking around much longer either.

Jesse Winker has been a really great, cheap find for the Nats this year and has been on an absolute tear the last month or so. Who do you think would be the best fit trade wise for him? Thanks.
Mark P
10:14
The Mariners could be a great fit for Winker on pap....uh, never mind.

Royals, Twins, Braves, Astros all leap to mind
Why are you ignoring me

Do the braves catch the philles?
Mark P
10:15
Nope.  Too much of a gap to make up, and the Phillies don't seem likely to slow down much.
