Why do the Orioles get a competitive balance pick?  They're a pretty big market.

As per the way MLB calculates things, the Orioles are still in the bottom 10 in either revenue or market size.  This won't be changed (if at all) until the next CBA, so it's a nice bonus for the O's in the interim

So yeah, he's certainly had some good fortune, and he isn't suddenly an ace overnight.  But, the adjustments Francis has made have clearly paid dividends, and at the very least he has locked up his spot in Toronto's 2025 rotation

Baez doesn't look like a viable Major League player any more, so eating that contract and moving on at shortstop might be the simplest (if painful to the wallet) way for Detroit to make an improvement to its 2025 lineup.  Whether or not Sweeney is the guy is an open question, plus McGonigle and Rainer are also on the radar in the longer term.

Adding at least one more big bat in general seems like a must, and some more stability in the rotation is also a need.  Maybe try to find this winter's version of a Flaherty, or sign a pitcher to a Maeda-type contract and hope for better results.
