Casas
8:45
Can you see the red sox moving casas for pitching ...devers to 1b and signing bregman to help lead the new young core coming?
Mark P
8:46
Trading Casas would be an awfully bold move, but this scenario does make a lot of sense for the Red Sox.  Adam Jude of the Seattle Times pitched a scenario in a recent piece that saw the Mariners move one of their starters for Casas, which feels like it would check boxes for both teams.
Then again, the Mariners are more keenly looking for 2B/3B help that at first base.

Is Donovan traded this offseason? I understand that would hurt, but you have to imagine they would be able to get some big time prospects for him, after all that is their goal right?
Mark P
8:47
Probably not, even though Donovan would get a ton of trade attention.
8:48
As much as the Cardinals talked about the reset in the organization, I suspect they don't think it'll take all that long to get back into contention, and Donovan is a very useful player to have around.

Have been a number of recent reports from teams looking for a new catcher in 2025 - - - does #1 pick Henry Davis still have trade value?
Mark P
8:49
He'd have plenty of trade value, since a lot of teams would see him as a big change of scenery candidate

Humans have to send an athlete to space to do battle with aliens in an intergalactic sporting event.  The fate of the planet is on the line.  Do you send Judge or Ohtani?
Mark P
8:50
Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes, obviously

Imanaga and Skenes.....do you think it'll be a close vote for Rookie of the Year? I pick Imanaga.
Mark P
8:53
While fWAR is only one metric, Skenes had a 4.3 fWAR over 133 innings, compared to Imanaga's 3.0 fWAR in 173 1/3 IP.

This isn't meant to downgrade Imanaga at all, since he's been awesome.  It's also hard to think of him as a "rookie" in the same way that Skenes is.  This is also coming from someone whose pick for NL ROY would actually be Jackson Merrill, so it's just been a great year for first-year players

Do the Angels finally cut Rendon this off season and just take the financial hit?
Mark P
8:55
With two years remaining on the contract, the Angels aren't losing anything by at least getting Rendon into spring camp and seeing what he can do.  But if the struggles or injuries continue, a release as early as midseason seems plausible.

Win or lose vs. Cleveland, do you think Detroit is at the beginning of a window or do you see 2024 as more of a flukish thing for the franchise? Thanks!

is Chris Illitch going to allow me to upgrade this offseason? Bregman, Walker, Burnes ?
Mark P

Tigers seem like a team on the rise.  Without much money on the books, this winter definitely seems like the time to make a big addition or two in order to maximize Skubal's remaining two seasons with the club.

Do you see any possibility of Adames resigning in Milwaukee or is someone like Turang or Ortiz just gonna slide over to SS and the club will look to spend their money elsewhere?
Mark P
8:58
Adames returning seems like a real long shot.  Ortiz is likely next season's starting shortstop.

Would SD let Kim walk?  If so, just keep Bogaerts at SS?  Maybe move Merrill back to SS?
Mark P
9:00
Merrill has been solid enough in center field and I'd just keep him out there.  Not that either is "easy" to find, but finding a glove-first SS is easier than a glove-first CF, so replacing Kim with Merrill at shortstop might create a bigger problem in finding a new center fielder

Are we hearing on any potential Managerial changes to our coaching staff?
Mark P
9:02
The Rockies have been a little quiet about Bud Black's status, but now that we're a week away from the end of the season, we "probably" would've heard something by now if Black wasn't returning.
Could be that Black is weighing the decision himself, but for now I'd say he's probably back in the Denver dugout in 2025

Outside of Ohtani if you were starting a major league team and you can pick any player to build your team around which player would it be?

It’s scary to think how far the Braves would’ve gone if they would’ve been half way healthy this year. With the lineup and bench all back, the rotation set 1-4, and the bullpen mostly set this is the most complete team on paper so what’s the big need next year?
Mark P
9:05
Shortstop is the clearest need, but beyond that everyday spot, I think this year underscored the importance for better bench depth.  The Braves have been playing with fire for a couple of years in having their lineup regulars play basically every day, and it seemed to catch up with them in 2024

Hypothetical question. A team wins the WS and everyone gets a ring. Does this include players on the IL who missed the playoffs?
Mark P
9:06
In most cases, yes.  For instance if the Yankees win the championship, Nestor Cortes is surely getting a ring due to his regular-season contributions

Ken Kendrick's comments about Jordan Montgomery were bizarre. Am I overreacting or was it a really self-defeating statement?
Nathan
9:08
Thoughts on the DBacks brass public comments about Monty?
Mark P
9:10
Kendrick gets points for honesty, even if he could've (and probably should've) found a less blunt way of phrasing it, so he wasn't so directly trashing a player still on the team.  I'm sure Montgomery himself feels that his 2024 season was a disaster, but there was a way for Kendrick to phrase it in the sense of "....and we expect him to be back on track next season."
9:11
But in general, don't be surprised if you see Montgomery shopped around in trade talks.  Even with his big salary, he's an interesting change-of-scenery candidate, and a normal offseason might well get him back to 2023 form.

Do you think the A's will make some noise this off-season? Not necessarily a total game changer but at least something to raise the floor as they begin their move'
Mark P
9:13
You couldn't have fit an "um actually" in there?!

I don't think the A's will do much this winter.  Not only because they won't be spending much, but they're going to have a tough time convincing players to play in a minor league park
Orioles
9:13
How much heat should the O’s front office be getting? 3/4 trades were complete busts when they were clear buyers. Rogers, Jimenez and Dominguez specifically
Mark P
9:15
To be clear, I think the Orioles' future is still very bright.  But, their deadline moves provided no help, and my concern is that if Rogers doesn't start to quickly improvement, they'll have wasted a couple of their better minor league trade chips.

Still, to be positive, all but a handful of teams in baseball would love to be in Baltimore's position going into 2025.

Should I be offended by Mark Shapiro saying I’m not a generational player?  He seems to like putting my face on every banner and tv commercial in Toronto, why not just say I am and create some good will going into extension talks?
Mark P
9:17
I think this is a silly non-story, made into a "controversy" since a lot the Jays fanbase wants Shapiro and Atkins fired.
