Do you think it's impossible I resign post-arb with Pittsburgh?
Mark P
9:19
The way the Pirates currently operate in regards to spending, yes.
KS Rangers
9:19
Are there any arb guys the Rangers don’t tender a contract to?
Mark P
9:20
9:21
Sborz is a possible non-tender based on health concerns only, but the whole class of five probably returns
RedsFan44
9:22
What should the Reds try to do this offseason?
Mark P
9:23
Pitching and outfield are clear needs, but the Reds face some difficulties in going much beyond that. They're now in the tough spot of figuring out which of their disappointing 2024 players just had rough sophomore slumps, or if the team has perhaps lost faith in any of them as long-term building blocks
Ed
9:24
Gray, Arenado, Contreras traded this off season?
Mark P
9:24
They all have no-trade protection, so that's obstacle #1 unless they're more amendable to being moved in order to avoid a rebuilding year (or years).
9:25
Gray and Contereras have the most trade value, naturally, as Arenado has only been decent the last two seasons.

How could you see Anthopolous (Atlanta GM) upgrade at SS this offseason?
Mark P
9:27
Just because Anthopoulos is more prone to make trades than big free agent signings, I don't think they'll end up with Adames.  As I wrote earlier today on MLBTR, it's possible AA might feel a need to operate a bit differently in the wake of a disappointing season.  And, a case can be made that Adames is a good final piece of the puzzle to turn the Braves back into major contenders.

Do you think Detroit makes a real push to extend Skubal this off-season? He's really the backbone of the team now!
Mark P
9:28
I'm sure they'll make an attempt, though since Skubal is represented by Scott Boras, it'll take a very big offer to get him to sign an extension
Davey
9:28
Brent Rooker - 70 HR and Lawrenece Butler going 50/50 next year playing in that AAA park. Do MBLPA allow the A's to play there all 3 years? I say no. After this one they will say "20 home games each at SF, LA, LAA and SD" imo
Mark P
9:29
I think the A's players would find that way more of a disruption than simply playing a full season in one city

Will the Halos have to overpay for decent pitching?
Mark P
9:29
Yes

2025 Red Sox projects to be Abreu, Duran, Anthony, and Rafaela, pretty left handed and worthy of starting. What are the odds they trade Duran for a good controllable starter? None of their starters now are ones or twos. Threes at best Duran is a great all around player controllable. What could they get for him? Thanks for the chats! I look forward to them.
Mark P
9:32
Duran is often cited by Sox fans as a trade candidate, which I won't quite get in the wake of his big season.  If the Red Sox did move anyone from their outfield group, they'd probably prefer it be Yoshida, but that doesn't seem too feasible.

This is just speculation on my part, but trading Abreu would bring back some interesting pitching help, and it's less of a potential overall blow than dealing Duran.

Surprised Mo is still in charger this year after Chaim Bloom accepts 5 year contract?
Mark P
9:34
It does make for a bit of an odd fit on paper, but I also doubt Mozeliak is going to make any big moves without running it by Bloom first
Seems like the Cardinals wanted to set this succession plan up for the 2025-26 offseason, but Bloom wanted something formalized beforehand
Astros fan
9:36
Entering into his last year, could you see the Astros dealing Framber Valdez this offseason?  What might the return look like?
Mark P
9:37
As I wrote earlier, Valdez might hypothetically be one of the likeliest of the in-house stars to sign an extension with the team.  I also find it hard to believe that after all their rotation injuries, the Astros would move Valdez.

Any potential to go year to year with JT Realmuto after this season? He loves Philly and we love JTR, but with the aging curve starting to hit (defense slipping a bit and bat speed down) can we retain him while minimizing the downside?
Mark P
9:40
That would certainly be the Phillies' preference for a catcher who turns 34 in March.  Tait might be the longer-term catcher of the future, and if Realmuto is amendable to shorter-term deals at the right price, JTR would potentially be a bridge

Chance of Alex Bregman wearing the old English D next season?
Mark P
9:42
As much as the Tigers like Jace Jung, he'd also be an interesting trade chip for a team that suddenly splurges on a decorated veteran third baseman.
Andy
9:43
What might it take for the Mariners to land Christian Walker? Is that a smart move?
Mark P
9:44
It's a smart move in the sense that the M's badly need lineup help.  But, as many pundits have observed, Walker is going to have one of the hotter markets of any free agent around.  If he had reservations about going to a pitchers' park in Seattle, he'll have plenty of options elsewhere.

Do you think Zach Greinke is a lock for the Hall? Or do you think he needs to strikeout 3,000 batters (he's 21 short). If he does come back, do you see him pitching out of the bullpen??? Or starting?
Mark P
9:45
After a full season away from the game, Greinke is probably done.  He'll very likely make the HOF anyway, regardless of falling just short of the 3000-K plateau

Does  a deep playoff run by the Guardians open up spending? Or the lack of  TV deal lead them to stand pat?
Mark P
9:46
I don't see the Guardians raising payroll in any significant fashion this offseason
With or without extra playoff revenue

How will the Bally bankruptcy impact the upcoming free agent market?
Mark P
9:49
Context: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/10/diamond-sports-group-planning-t...

It'll have an impact, though since we're almost two years into this situation, we've already seen how a lot of the affected clubs have responded.  And as much as Diamond's en masse move caught the league by surprise, the idea that they'd break any of these individual deals can't have been that shocking
Angels
9:49
Will we sign Snell?
Mark P
9:50
Very unlikely.  The Angels traditionally don't want to give big contracts to pitchers, and Snell would surely want to join a contender.
