orioles sign any 9 figure players?
Mark P
8:59
Yes.  I think the O's will make at least one splashy signing this winter.
MarioSoto
9:00
Santander or Teoscar? Which is more likely for the Reds?
Mark P
9:00
Santander probably, just because I'm predicting Teoscar stays in LA
Brewers
9:01
How will we ever get out of this labyrinth of suffering?
Mark P
9:02
This particular year was a real gut-punch for Brewers fans, but take heart....the organization knows what it's doing, and there's still a lot of talent on the roster.  Nobody should be surprised if Milwaukee makes the playoffs again, and they're perhaps overdue for some October breaks to finally go their way

9:02
Apparently Jays like Wagner at 2B. Horowitz they evidently aren’t keeping there. Hes one of their two good hitters, but do you think him being limited to 1B/DH could make him a trade chip?
Mark P
9:04
The Jays should broadly be open to trading basically any of their young infielders.  Horwitz and Wagner are probably the two least-expendable of the group, though if Horwitz is ideally a 1B/DH, he'll need to really consistently hit.

Devin Williams for Alex Bohm - who says no?
Mark P
9:05
With Ortiz taking over as the Brewers' shortstop?  I kind of like this one, as Milwaukee could keep Bohm at 3B or move him to 1B as circumstances warrant.
Sox
9:06
Any good reason the Red Sox were being saved for so late in the offseason outlooks?
Mark P
9:08
None that I know of, but expect to see it soon!

9:08
when do you think the Giants announce their new GM? the day after the WS is over?
Mark P
9:09
Since the league prefers that all major news is held until after the WS, that seems plausible.  Or, the Giants are perhaps still in the interview process and haven't made a choice yet.  For instance, Buster Posey still hasn't called me for even a first interview yet!  The nerve!

Will the Phillies make a big move or stay stagnant
Mark P
9:11
Dombrowski was dropping some pretty heavy hints that some trades will be happening this winter, so I think the Phils know some level of change is necessary.
Kurt the Hurt
9:12
Should Tigers try to improve at shortstop by getting someone to split time with Baez ?
Mark P
9:13
They already have such a player in Sweeney, so bringing in another shortstop probably isn't happening if Detroit is going with a timeshare plan for Baez
Arenado to Beantown?
9:14
Casas for Arenado?  Also - Casas++ for Crochet and Vaughn (change of scenery, RHH)?
Mark P
9:15
The second proposal is a lot more realistic than the first.  The Sox surely aren't moving a controllable ex-top prospect with Casas' potential for an expensive veteran like Arenado who is coming off two offensive down years

9:17
What are your thought on Thad Levine leaving the Twins?
Mark P
9:18
Assuming Posey doesn't get around to calling me, Levine would be an interesting choice in San Francisco.  But, his departure from the Twins was described as Levine looking into future opportunities in and out of baseball, so he might move away from the game into something else entirely.

Would the Mets consider a Tork for Baty swap?
Mark P
9:22
I'm not sure either the Mets or Tigers would do that.  Both teams are planning/hoping to win in 2025, and might not want to move one "change of scenery" former top prospect for another.

The Mets got a lot of interest in Baty at the deadline, don't forget, so they can likely spin him off into more proven talent if they do decide to make a trade.

9:23
Any new showson
Mark P
9:24
Shoresy and Mr. Inbetween are two shows I've recently been watching and enjoying.  Also finally saw the first season of Severance and liked it, though not to the extent that seemingly everyone else did.

  • do you acually believe the pirates will spend some money, and bring in decent free agents.
Mark P
9:27
As I just wrote in the Pirates outlook piece, the Bucs' lack of spending is only partially the issue.  The other problem is that they're not spending the money they do have in particularly good fashion, as last year's slate of free agent moves left many scratching their heads.
Phils in ‘25
9:28
Tyler O’Neil, Anthony Santander or both make the most sense for the Phils?  Thanks.
Mark P
9:28
Both are good hitters but with a lot of swing-and-miss in their approach.  Since strikeouts and chasing pitches seem to be the Phillies' problem already, I'm not sure either are the best fit.

9:29
Which of Helsley, Williams, Miller, and Fairbanks get moved this offseason?
Mark P
9:30
In order of most to least likely, I'd go Helsley, Williams, then a gap, then Fairbanks, then another gap, then Miller
Juan Soto
9:30
I am slow. Shouldn't that factor into my contract?
Mark P
9:30
Don't have to be too fast when you're doing a home run trot
Bret
9:32
Do the Jays add significant in free agency? Trade? Or will it be more complimentary while their internal options sort out?
Mark P
9:34
It's unclear if they're already at their spending limit or not, but trades are probably the likelier avenue anyway.

And sticking to just "complimentary" pieces won't cut it after last season.  More or less running back the 2023 roster already backfired badly on the Jays, so they can no longer just hope for a lot of bounce-back seasons.

9:35
For all the hype, Volpe seems to have settled into being middling overall SS. Would this off-season be a good time  to dangle him as trade bait?
Mark P
9:35
And replace him with who?  Volpe has yet to hit consistently, but he's still only 23 and is already a very strong defensive shortstop.  No reason for the Yankees to cut bait any time soon.
Arte Moreno
9:35
Will I be forced to sell the team in 2025?
Mark P
9:36
Nobody can force Moreno to sell if he doesn't want to
