How does Hoerner’s surgery/injury status impact Cub’s offseason plans? He seemed like one vet they might’ve considered moving.
Mark P
9:38
It's a big deal, though we don't know yet when Hoerner will be fully recovered.  Even in the best-case scenario of Nico being ready to go by the start of Spring Training, the surgery is still enough of a red flag to likely quell any trade interest other teams might've had

No way the Nationals can come close to the Yankees and Mets offers for Soto right?
Mark P
9:40
Ruiz and Strasburg are the only players on Washington's books through the 2026 season.  So the Nats have a ton of open payroll space to bid as high as anyone on Soto, if ownership is willing.

Should Ohtani really be trying to steal a base in a 4-1 game?  Seems like an unnecessary risk to your best player when you’re already up a game and leading in the second game.
Mark P
9:42
It's funny, just before that play, I was thinking how Ohtani hadn't done much on the basepaths this postseason.  So if anything, I was thinking he should've been running more.

A three-run lead is far from safe, especially for a Dodgers team that doesn't have its regular closer available (to say nothing of umpteen other injured pitchers).

Does AZ move Gallen, with seemingly little chance to extend him after this season?
Mark P
9:45
A trade wouldn't be entirely shocking, but I'd guess the Diamondbacks keep Gallen.  They're trying to win next year, after all, so they're probably not too likely to make such a big subtraction from their core.  Especially since the rotation as a whole is a question mark given all the injuries last year.
9:46
It seems very possible Arizona's rotation will be quite good next year if everyone is healthy.  But, the Snakes probably don't want to tempt fate by moving Gallen in advance of having a better idea of how the rest of the starters are faring.

What kind of contract does Buehler get this off-season? Who signs him? Dodgers?
Mark P
9:50
My guess is that Buehler signs a one-year deal in the $10-$11MM range, with the idea of having a great year to establish himself for a multi-year contract next offseason.  Basically what Jack Flaherty did last winter.

Re-signing with LA is certainly a possibility, since the Dodgers will be looking for all the pitching they can get.  With so many other pitchers coming back from injury, however, I wonder if the Dodgers might want to just bring in a more solid innings-eater type rather than someone else with a checkered injury history
Tigers
9:51
How will the tigers address Briceño and Liranzo in the near future. Both guys are killing it in the AFL but are poor defenders at C and 1B
Mark P
9:52
Both are still at least a year away from the majors, so Detroit can still just wait and see how they fare with another year of development.  A trade can't be ruled out if the Tigers already feel they're more set on one over the other.
Dh
9:53
Would Naylor be a good fit for the Cubs as their primary DH, what would it cost them?
Mark P
9:54
He's maybe a little redundant with Busch also there as a left-handed 1B/DH type.  The Cubs had interest in Naylor in the past so they can't be entirely ruled out, but there are better fits elsewhere.

9:56
Chances of Kwan or Bibee signing an extension w/ Cleveland.  They usually don't sign guys once their arbitration kicks in, but I'd think there is a chance if someone can convince their owner to pay a major league wage
Mark P
9:57
Bibee is still pre-arb so he's maybe the likelier of the two.

Do you see the Dodgers landing a SS via trade or free agency or do you think they'll use Edman there every day next year?
Mark P
9:58
Edman's emergence is great on many levels for the Dodgers, and you're right in that they're suddenly facing less urgency to go out and a find a shortstop. Keeping Edman as a super-utility guy who can bounce everything has value, of course, and he might well end up in CF if the Dodgers do want to stick in a single position.

Are you collector? Whats your best and favorite card?
Mark P
9:59
Haven't collected cards since I was a kid.  I think I've got a set of O-Pee-Chee cards from the 1991-92 seasons collecting dust in my parents' basement somewhere.

best ending - Freeman or Daniels??

Got to be Freeman, because of the far greater import of the game
The Homeless Rays

What are the most logical options for Rays to play with Tropicana's uncertain future ?
Mark P
10:01
Seems likely they'll play at one of the many Spring Training venues in the general Tampa/St. Pete area, or perhaps rotate around between a couple of them depending on scheduling.

Dodgers not going to sign Soto, too?
Mark P
10:07
Probably not, since my guess is that the Dodgers will keep an eye on his market and maybe float an offer or two just because they can.  But he wouldn't be the kind of game-changing priority for them as he would for other teams.

Do the Reds finally trade India this offseason? If so, who do they target in return?
Mark P
10:07
Since the Reds' infield is looking a whole lot shakier than it did at this time last year, I doubt India is going anywhere
Jimmy blue
10:08
Dodgers go with a six man rotation next year?
Mark P
10:08
That's their rough plan, since they're keeping Yamamoto on an extended schedule and easing Ohtani back into pitching
Jim
10:10
Between the Diamond sports group TV deals concerns, the rumors of Twins and white sox potentially being for sale, the A's playing in Sacramento and the Juan Soto sweepstakes possibly delaying big spending clubs from making moves is it possible this offseason is painfully slow and even further limits the earning potential for mid tier free agents?
Mark P
10:11
Another slow offseason wouldn't be surprising, but I kind of think Soto's market moves relatively quickly due to the limited number of teams that can realistically sign him.  Once that settles, it opens the floodgates for the big spenders to go after everyone else.
Rumor

I hear Taylor Swift is buying the Dodgers and reducing payroll to 50M per year
Mark P
10:12
That would make 2025 a real cruel summer for Dodgers fans
Please answer my question
10:14
Who from the Cardinals gets traded? Do they get anything of value in return, or is it just salary dumping?
