Maybe not to specifically sign Fried, but to afford another key player or two, sure
Dan
8:22
Snell to LA would be a monster move that makes too much sense
Mark P
8:23
The Dodgers have had interest in Snell in the past, but given all their injuries, I wonder if they wouldn't prefer someone who has a more consistent track record.
Jacob
8:23
are the braves a serious contender for Adames or is he out of our price range
Mark P
8:24
I mean, if you're looking for reasons why Atlanta might be trying to clear out some payroll space....
Houstonian

Does Houston consider someone like Walker or Goldschmidt knowing the debacle that trading for an advanced aged first baseman was with Jose Abreu?
Mark P
8:26
Goldschmidt would be the bigger concern in this vein, since he is coming off a down year.  But Walker is "only" 34 on Opening Day, and is coming off a strong season without any signs of slowing down.

What will the A’s do with Brent Rooker trade him? Keep him?
Mark P
8:27
Forst already said the other day that the A's aren't looking to move more established players for prospects, so Rooker is likely being kept
Roman Anthony
8:28
Will I be up in 2025?
Mark P
8:29
Most definitely.  A spot on Boston's Opening Day roster wouldn't even be a shock.
Ex- Hall of Famer

Better player: Joe Dimaggio or Jimmie Foxx?
Mark P
8:31
DiMaggio, due to being a better defensive player

After Bellinger opts In to Remain a Cub next year. Do I trade him to free up money to go after a guy like Corbin Burnes. Or do I keep Bellinger go for someone much cheaper.
Mark P
8:33
Cubs are about $44MM under the tax line, as per RosterResource.  So they can surely afford a Burnes without having to trade Bellinger.

Also, the tax threshold is not a hard line, so the Cubs don't have to "free up money" to really sign anyone.

Judge to 1st base?
Mark P
8:36
Yankees fans won't like this scenario since it means Soto has signed elsewhere, but moving Judge back to RF seems like the most logical move if Soto is indeed gone
Walker Buehler
8:37
Do the Dodgers give me the QO?
Mark P
8:37
No.  The postseason won't overwrite the rest of Buehler's limited regular-season work.
Freddie Freeman

Am I already a Hall of Famer?
Mark P

In my view, Freeman was a HOFer even before his incredible World Series.

The one year for Naylor seemingly lines up nicely with the one year on Valdez, Stros need a first baseman and I know the Guardians are generally trying to move pending free agents but Valdez would immediately slot in near the top of their rotation
Mark P
8:39
This isn't at all how Cleveland or even Houston approach trades, but this would be a very fun need-for-need type of deal.

High likely is Adames to LA?
Mark P
8:41
Another situation where the Dodgers can be "in on" a guy because they can, and Adames is more of a clear fit than someone like Soto.  But, LA could just try to go with Edman/Rojas as the shortstop combo for next season if an Adames pursuit doesn't pan out, or they could land another SS at a lesser price.

Is Jeff McNeil the sort of player the Mariners might target? He had a very good second half and can play multiple positions.
Mark P
8:44
McNeil was injured for most of the second half.  And, he has been a subpar offensive player for three of the last four seasons.  And, he's owed a lot of money over the next two seasons.

In short, the Mariners are very likely to look elsewhere for lineup help

Chances Braves sign Kim?
Mark P
8:47
This might be more of a fit for the Braves than Adames, just because signing true big-ticket free agents isn't really Anthopoulos' style.  Kim on an option-heavy type of short-term contract might give both sides the flexibility they prefer.

Though, the bigger obstacle here might be on the representation side.  Anthopoulos generally doesn't pursue Boras clients.

Is Triston Casas someone who is realistically going to be on the trade market? Is this an area where Seattle, Houston, NYM, and other teams in need of 1B help will be looking?
Mark P
8:50
There is some logic to the idea of Boston moving Casas, and then either getting a short-term 1B or moving Devers over to first base.  However, the Sox would only move Casas if they felt they were getting another premium younger talent in return.

A million people have posited Casas-for-Mariners pitcher types of trade suggestions, and while that's a fit on paper, it depends how those respective front offices view the talent involved.  Surely there's at least one or two of Seattle's arms that appeal to the Red Sox, but if the Mariners aren't too high on Casas, it's a moot point.

You are hearing it here first, Contreras going back to the Cubs.
Mark P
8:52
If you thought the Cards and Brewers were infrequent trade partners, STL/Chicago last linked up on a trade in 2007.  They have made all of three trades within the last 44 years
Metsss
8:54
Who are the A’s looking to trade for?
Mark P
8:56
Pitching and third base help
In terms of specific names, that's unclear at the moment.  Likely veterans on shorter-term control who can possibly be flipped at the deadline.

Obviously the A's would love to land a building-block type of player if one is available, but since they don't seem too keen to move one of their own building blocks (i.e. Rooker, Butler, Miller) to do so, such a trade is probably not feasible
btw, it is still very weird to write about the A's without ever referring to them as "Oakland"
Hits Like Rays
8:58
Which of the young Rays should the team be trying to sign to a long-term deal???
Mark P
9:00
Caminero is maybe the easiest answer, if he and his reps are amenable to an early-career extension.  Caminero didn't sign for any kind of big bonus at the start of his career, so he might be more open to locking in some life-changing money early in his career
Jimmie Foxx
9:00
When I retired, I was 2nd to Ruth on the all-time HR list? I beg to differ!
Mark P
9:01
Jimmie Foxx was an incredible player, let me be clear.  There aren't many guys I'd put ahead of Foxx, but Joe D is one of them
