Hi all. Apologies for my spotty recent chat availability, again.
2:09
Last week it was scheduling shifts ... yesterday I got caught up building a retaining wall. Word to wise: don't try to build a retaining wall.
I'll let people filter in and we'll get moving shortly ... hit me with some questions.

Angel Pagan to the Pirates?

Angel pagan to the Jays! Make this happen

Obviously it'll take someone giving him a MLB deal, at this point, which seems plenty reasonable. Beyond that, he'll probably be prioritizing playing time, I'd expect.

Am I asking too much for Quintana and others or no?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
No. Beyond the fact that every team has their own valuations, the Sox are wise to try to max the value on some of these guys. They don't need to cut all their salary and don't have guys lined up everywhere to take over.
I mean, we see clubs like the Phillies and Braves spending money on fill-in types, some of whom get flipped at the deadline. So why just dump Todd Frazier for a crappy return?
2:14
All the more true of Q.

Does your gut tell you Robertson goes before or after Opening Day?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Barring injury, I'll guess at this point he stays put.
Injury to another team's key reliever, that is.

What's your thoughts on who does better in the WBC, USA or Dominican Repub?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
DR looks stacked, man.

Sad news about Chad Bettis huh.
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Man, it sure is. Best wishes to him.
Good reminder for otherwise healthy young men to check themselves.

What would be the current trade value of Tanaka if he's able to replicate his 2016
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
If he's pitching like a 1/2 starter at the deadline, and Yanks sell, he'll be a pure rental -- b/c in that case, he's likely to opt out. So, you'd be looking at typical rent-an-ace type value.
Hard to know beyond that since it'd be impacted by the availability of other guys, but it would be reasonable to expect (under circumstances we're assuming) he'd be one of the most hotly pursued players.

Do you see the Orioles moving on from jj Hardy after this year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
$14MM option could be a close call in terms of pure value, but O's tend to like their guys and don't have a replacement lined up -- unless they want to shift Manny over. I'll lean towards a return if he plays well and stays healthy.

The Cubs gave 1.05 million to Bryant...is there a better bargain in all of baseball? I always love when people say the Stros are trying to do what the Cubs did...and they could have drafted Bryant. Let's rejoice in the Cubs greatness for a few more weeks.
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
I mean, Bryant would be even more of a bargain at the league minimum. That's about what Trout earned in his 1+ service year. But it doesn't really matter -- it's chump change to these teams.
I do sort of hope that teams begin to loosen up their pay scales. Once it starts to happen with some orgs, there's somewhat less incentive for others to toe the line just for sake of leaguewide precedent.
2:20
I was honestly a bit surprised the players didn't push for a bigger increase in the minimum and/or some added pay boosts for pre-arb guys in the CBA talks.

Would it be wise to put up a "Retaining wall" around Carlos Correa and lock him up early to a rich deal before he's a superstar?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
I mean, yeah, of course.
As always, depends on the price tag.
LOL at guy who posted an unpublishably profane comment re my retaining wall from Trump. "F*** you!" Ha.

With Braun becoming a 10 and 5 player in a few months, does that completely close the door on getting any valuable rebuilding assets for the Brewers?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Nah, I don't think so. His approval list had the teams he'd be willing to go to for personal reasons, and it seems reasonable to think he might be willing to waive it in the right circumstances.

Is Sonny Gray going to follow a similar career path to Lincecum?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Not sure I see any clear analogies between them. Lincecum was mostly healthy, he just fell off. Hopefully Gray can get his health in order and tweak his mechanics to avoid further injury.

What would a Zach Britton extension look like?
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
He's so absurdly dominant and not that old. One more arb year at what will be a big price tag. Assuming he bounces back to health without issue ... don't see why he wouldn't be asking for $18MM annually for FA years. Unless he just is willing to take less to stay in Baltimore, it'll be a big number.

do the Rockies go after Fister now?
