Are Tigers actually looking to spend on Bergman or are rumors just based of fit on paper?
Mark P
9:31
Publicly, it seems like the Tigers aren't willing to spend big just yet, or meet anything close to a $200MM asking price.  That could just be gamesmanship by the front office or they're seeing if they can wait out Bregman's market to get a lower price tag, but in general, I think I'd put Detroit in the lower tier of potential Bregman suitors
Joc Pederson
9:31
Could Texas be my next spot with Nathaniel Lowe traded off?
Mark P
9:32
Seems quite possible.  One oddity of the Lowe deal is that the Rangers now have an even greater need for a left-handed bat, so signing Joc just basically gets them back to where they were before they had just Lowe

What's it going to take to keep me in Toronto? 8/225?
Mark P
9:33
Far, far, north of that.
In both years and money

Extremely disappointed in the Braves offseason so far. Do you think they want to stay under the luxury taxes?
Mark P
9:38
They'd love to reset their luxury status if possible, but this team is in such win-now mode that building the roster is still the priority.

Why are top-tier prospects not getting traded as often anymore?
Mark P
9:40
There is such immense value in having a homegrown star talent (playing on a minimum salary) that it takes a pretty rare circumstance to see an elite prospect get moved.
9:41
Plus there is greater public awareness of prospects and prospect rankings, so unless the return was really great, a GM would face a lot of heat for trading away a top prospect

Is Burnes waiting for Sasaki to sign?
Mark P
9:42
Maybe indirectly, or more likely some teams might be waiting on Sasaki before really pushing hard on Burnes.  Like, if you're the Red Sox/Giants/Jays and you think you have a real shot at Sasaki, maybe you see how that goes before spending $200MM on Burnes

Any chance Arenado waives his no trade clause in a trade to the Yankees? Especially in the wake of the Goldschmidt signing?
Mark P
9:44
The Yankees aren't one of the teams Arenado is reportedly okay with being dealt to, and while we don't know how concrete his six-team list might be, he already vetoed one team to a non-list team in Houston.
9:45
Signing Goldy probably makes the Bronx more attractive in Arenado's eyes, to be fair

What is this blue jays front office  up to? They have been so quiet this winter with their biggest move being a double down on their defense-first mentality that hasn’t gotten them anywhere yet.
Mark P
9:47
Atkins had tended to make most of his bigger moves later in the offseason anyway, so it isn't unusual to see things relatively quiet for the Blue Jays by Christmas time.
Thing 1
9:48
Now that the draft order has been set, I saw a mock draft that has Holiday dropping to 10th overall. Is there any way he falls to the O's?
Mark P
9:48
Obviously a lot can happen with the coming college season to shake up the rankings, but Holliday has been so highly ranked that I find it hard to believe he'd drop all the way to Baltimore at #19
9:49
If family ties are a thing, Holliday might not get past either of his dad's old teams (Rockies at #4, Cards at #5)

9:51
Do you possibly see any backlash for the team that signs Sasaki and walks away from a verbale commitment they had with someone else?
Mark P
9:53
If a team abandons basically its entire 2025 int'l signing class to land Sasaki, it'll definitely ruffle some feathers in the team's future international dealings.  If you're a trainer who had one of your prospects get a deal taken off the table, you're very likely going to direct your future prospects towards another team in the future.

It's not absolute since this Sasaki situation is pretty unique.  And, at the end of the day, trainers aren't going to close off a connection to one of 30 MLB teams unless they really feel like they got jobbed out.

Do you see the Brewers keeping or trading Rhys Hoskins?
Mark P
9:55
Feels like they'll keep him because of a lack of trade options.  As noted earlier, a lot of teams have already filled their 1B needs.

Since Arizona looks to be aggressive, would the D-backs accept a trade bringing in Jhoan Duran, Willi Castro, and Kyle DeFarge for Jordan Lawler?
Mark P
9:56
Doesn't seem like a fit.  Lawlar is almost surely still viewed as a long-term answer for Arizona, since the team is potentially losing so many notables to free agency next winter

Did you find it as laughable as I did the Phillies wanted Mason Miller for Bohm?
Mark P

Can't hurt to ask!

Any chance Luis Robert actually gets moved or are the White Sox just putting out feelers to gauge interest.  Seems like a classic case of selling low if they move him now.
Mark P
10:00
Chicago would probably move him if someone came reasonably close to their high asking price.  Getting, say, 75% of what they want might be acceptable for the Sox in the wake of Robert's down year, and a hedge against the possibility that he might get hurt again in 2025 and lower his value even further.
This is speculative on my part, of course, since it might be just as likely that the Sox keep Robert to see if he rebounds in the early part of 2025

Which team has surprised you so far in showing activity?
Mark P
10:02
I didn't expect the Athletics to be as aggressive as they've been in spending or adding talent
Guardians of the Galaxy
10:04
Signing a 39 year old Santana to replace Naylor’s production feels like wishful thinking. And trading away defensive stud Giminez seems like the team is even more offensively challenged than before. I don’t see the Guardians signing any meaningful free agents due to budget concerns. Do you think they will trade to generate more offense in the OF?
Mark P
10:06
DeLauter is expected to debut at some point in 2025, but you're right, the outfield seems like a natural spot to add a bat.  Getting Lane Thomas off the books might help in this regard, but then the front office has to thread the needle in both finding a trade partner for Thomas while still bringing in some other outfielder.

Granted, they already did thread a needle in trading Naylor/signing Santana within a few hours

Of the 1st time eligible players on the ballot who if anyone gets elected to the HOF?
Mark P
10:08
Ichiro is a lock.  Sabathia probably gets in eventually but perhaps not in his very first year.

Felix or Pedroia are interesting borderline cases who might build some support over the years, but I'm not sure I see either cracking 75%

Are the Cardinals going to do anything this offseason?  All outlets predicted a busy offseason for STL and absolutely nothing has happened so far.  We in STL didn't know 'focusing on the development infrastructure ' meant not stocking the franchise with a new batch of prospects via trades.
