Did I make a mistake by barely exceeding the luxury tax? Seems like teams should either stay under it or spend more aggressively.

It's not the end of the world since the Cubs are just a first-time payor, plus the Cubs were trying to contend for much of the season.  $540K is such a slight amount that it sure feels like Chicago could've made some tiny payroll cut just to get under the line, but overall, not a huge deal
