The Padres and Giants have swung two relatively minor trades in the last 20-plus years.  If Cease is indeed move, it certainly won't be to San Francisco

What would it take to get Lawler from the D-Backs since Perdomo is established at that position.  Maybe eat Montgomery's conract and a couple of prospects like Alvarez and Ritchie?
Mark P
9:29
Suarez is a free agent after next season, so that opens up a spot in Arizona's infield for both Lawlar and Perdomo
Nashville
9:30
The year is 2030.  Am I home to an MLB team?
Mark P
9:31
My guess is Nashville gets an expansion team, but I'm not sure if they'll necessarily be up and running by 2026
2030, that is
Diamondbacks fan

What’s the odds Pavin smith will play a pivotal role at 1st year for the diamondbacks?
Mark P
9:32
Smith hit well enough last year that he has earned a part-time job at least, and it looks like he'll be a platoon DH now that Naylor is in there at first base
9:33
While I won't overreact to a 158-PA sample size, the losses of Pederson and (probably) Grichuk creates an opening for Arizona that Smith can theoretically fill from within

Odds - Nolan Arenado is a Cardinal when spring training opens?
Mark P
9:35
He'll be traded. Bregman might need to sign first, but the Cards will find an acceptable deal and Arenado will okay it.
9:36
Reportedly Arenado was even open to eventually accepting that trade to Houston, except the Astros pivoted quickly to get Walker instead

The rumored Castillo for Casas/Yoshida seems to fill two needs for the Mariners. Beyond budget, why wouldn’t the Mariners do this?
Mark P
9:37
If the Mariners did move Castillo, it would be to save money and add young talent.  Not to add young talent and also take on an unwanted contract in Yoshida that eats up a lot of the savings you'd get by moving Castillo

Any plausible Nationals/Orioles trade that would send one of Washington’s controllable pitchers to Baltimore for a prospect who’s blocked?
Mark P
9:39
The two teams haven't linked up on a trade since 2001, when the Nationals were still the Expos.  So while such a trade might make sense on paper, the MASN-shaped elephant in the room says otherwise.

This is the second straight year that Boras has stuck out with big time free agents as their representative will players finally take notice are will Boras continue to get the big fish
Mark P
9:43
Uh, Boras is Juan Soto's agent.  And Corbin Burnes' agent.  And Blake Snell's agent.  And Sean Manaea's agent.  And Yusei Kikuchi's agent.  And....

Next move for the Brew Crew?
Mark P
9:45
Bullpen help is the obvious answer.  I might be crazy, but I think the Brewers might more or less be okay with their rotation and position-player alignment as it currently stands.  Maybe they bring in a veteran utility infielder type.

Do the Pohlad’s sell the Twins this offseason?
Mark P
9:46
Leaning towards yes, but as we've seen with the Nationals and Angels in recent years, "exploring a sale" doesn't always equal a sale

What is your favorite ball park that you have attended and which ballpark that you haven't visited would be on the top of your next visit list?
Mark P
9:46
PNC Park is probably my favourite.  Dodger Stadium is at the top of my ballpark bucket list.

Jordan Montgomery for jeimer candelario? Money is close to one another. What do you think of that one?
Mark P
9:47
Doubt Arizona has much need for Candelario.  That's a deal that would help the Reds more than the D'Backs
Ejoey

Ok what hat will Verlander  go in to the HOF with?
Mark P
9:49
I'd say Detroit but the debate is a lot closer than one might think between the Tiger and Astros
Fedde
9:50
Any chance Detroit goes after Fedde for bolster the rotation? Reasonable price and probably not too high of a prospect cost.
Mark P
9:50
The Tigers have already shown interest in Fedde, and he definitely fits their preferred model of short-term pitching adds

What is up with Jurickson Profar?  I've heard nothing about his market so far, not even a whisper.  Any chance he has to take a 1 year "show me you can put together more than 1 good season" kind of deal?
Mark P
9:53
This is why I kind of default to thinking Profar will end up back in San Diego.  Profar's career has been so streaky that I do think a lot of teams have that exact thinking when it comes to giving him a multi-year commitment

Why would the Mets sign Clay Holmes to be a starting pitcher when they presumably have the means to sign any number of conventional starters? Is there some advanced statistic out there that suggests that Holmes' stuff might play well as a starter? Thank you for these chats.
Mark P
9:56
The Mets didn't sign that deal on a whim.  Holmes' three-pitch mix perhaps gives him a better edge than most relievers on a transition back to starting pitching.  And, if it doesn't work out, Holmes can be shifted back into a relief role.

Who’s the most surprising player you would boldly pick to be traded before opening day?
Mark P
9:58
I kind of want to say Rafael Devers now, haha.  That earlier question got my mind racing.

Since AA has teased us w silence all off-season. Can you give me your Braves signings or trades
Mark P
10:01
In fairness, the Braves are silent even when about to announce some unexpected trade or signing.

Another outfielder is a must, between Acuna's rehab and the lack of production in left field.  Another SP seems likely, as much as the Braves might think they can tread water until Strider is back.  SS is a maybe, but if the payroll is kind of tight and other needs are more pressing, Atlanta can run it back with Arcia or give Alvarez some longer looks

Any chance the A’s get a new name in Vegas?  I hope so.
