They'll let those young players force their way into MLB opportunities. (Excepting the guys already expected to hold MLB spots.) They clearly also value veteran leadership and such given the pursuit of Napoli, decision thus far to keep Ervin, etc.

Is Kyle Hendricks the best #3 in the game? Also do you think he can repeat his 2016 or is he a serious regression candidate?
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
He had a legit season -- not just a guy who totally lucked into results. But some regression in the earned-run dept certainly seems reasonable to expect.

Does the Rays strong pitching make them a contender?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
They have a really high variance roster. Guys like Cobb, Snell on the pitching side and Dickerson, Souza, Miller, LoMo, Rasmus, Ramos on the position player side. Plausible contender but they need things to break right. Bigger spending clubs can pay for more (perceived) certainty.

Rumor is Braves want to trade for Cubs Sczur. What would it take?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
Well, I doubt ATL is looking to give up real value. Really a question whether the Cubs decide to keep him on their roster. If not, they'll look to get what they can.
This is the time of year we're going to see teams looking to improve on the edges of their rosters, or seek upside in talented guys who face roster pressures elsewhere, as teams make final calls.

With Price out and Pomeranz a question mark, do you see Boston picking up another starter before opening day?
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Yes, but I'd anticipate a fairly minor acquisition.

Can Angel Pagan play CF anymore? Does he make sense for the Tigers on a 1 year deal? Because, to me, if the 1st answer is yes, the second answer is an overwhelming yes.
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Could be that he's really holding out for both money and opportunity. So, if the Tigers aren't willing to pay up, maybe he ends up elsewhere. But he definitely seems like a guy worthy of getting guaranteed money and a roster spot.
Obviously the Giants didn't really think he could play CF well enough any more, but that doesn't mean he can't do it passably for a second-division team, or spend time there as a 4th OFer for a contender.

Would an AL team take on David Wright, or is his contract/injury history a red flag?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Don't see him moving.

Is it just me or does steve seem to take a lot of vacations
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Totally.
2:40
Realistically, though, he doesn't. We don't get gobs of time off, though sometimes we are able to swap shifts to free things up. He just tends to take time off in blocks more than I do.

True/false - Dodgers win a World Series in the next three years?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
3/30 teams as the starting point, and baseball being baseball ... LAD is as good a bet as any team beside the Cubs.

The Nats closer situation is their weak link. What will they do?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
I don't entirely agree with that -- at least yet. Were the Rays set at closer this time last year? But then swingman Colome became Closer Colome. They have some live arms who could do the same. If not, that's what the trade deadline is for.

Do you think Mauricio Cabrera will get a shot at closing this season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Don't see ATL pushing for him to take that role. I'm sure they'd rather see Johnson do a good-enough job and let Cabrera continue to establish himself for the time being.
2:43
The whole closer thing just ain't what it once was, especially with more and more power arms making it up to the majors.

Supposedly, this is a make or break year for Kolten Wong. So, do you think he will finally make it and establish himself as the starter the Cardinals are touting him to be or will he break the hearts of Cardinals fans and continue to disappoint?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
I'm not particularly bullish, and didn't love the extension, but they obviously believe in him.

Anymore GM interviews? Those were a great look into the leadership side of baseball.

Did you catch Chuck Wasserstrom's huge piece today? Tons of detail on how front offices used to work. I'd expect he and others will end up chatting with some current front office folks on their current teams. We also had an interview with Rick Hahn a month back or so from Brett Ballantini.

Why are the Mets sticking with the 120 innings rule for Wheeler, given his spring training performance?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Given their depth, they ought to try to manage him pretty carefully, IMO.

Did the Cubs make a mistake trading Soler for the "oft-injured" Wade Davis?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
I think it was a calculated bet based upon their available resources. Could fail, of course, but in conception it seems reasonable -- even if, arguably, they gave up somewhat more in value (for those who believe in Soler and/or have doubts about Davis's ability to keep dominating).
2:49
Chasing one of the 3 top closers in FA would've meant paying way more than anyone would be comfortable, so there's always a tradeoff.

Will I get traded this year?
Jeffrey Todd

Nah
Wow, that's surprising.

Kudos to the Seattle #Mariners who have granted permission for closer Edwin Diaz to pitch one inning in WBC title game for Venezuela.
