Welcome! Wow, I actually got this published before 2pm CST. Amazing.
2:00
Go ahead and throw some questions into the ring for consideration and I'll get to answerin' in just a few minutes.

Do I stay in DC or opt out tomorrow
John
2:02
Will Koda Glover be the closer for the nats
Jeffrey Todd
2:02
Nats pen ... no room for Nathan IMO. I'm leaning toward guessing Glover takes the job, but still a strong case for Treinen too.
Drew

What year is the twins ETA for playoff contention
Jeffrey Todd
2:03
It wouldn't be crazy to imagine them being in contention next year, IF loads of things went right. There is a lot of talent and they thought they were gearing up last year, after all. More likely, 2019 and beyond.

Any truth to the rumors about Quintana still on Braves radar?
Jeffrey Todd
2:04
Far as Q goes, it's all a question of the White Sox' approach. I have little doubt he's still on the Braves radar, and those of other teams who have pursued him. But will CWS push to get something done in the next ten days or are they taking him to the deadline unless some team steps up its offer?
Rob
2:04
Ryan Howard done?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
Thing with a guy like that is, does he want to go to camp on a minors deal to compete for a role? Or even spend time in the minors? Maybe not, and that'd be fine. But he still could have a shot at being useful as a lefty bench bat.

What's the thing you like most about spring training?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
Live-tweeting of meaningless games?
2:06
Oh "like" ... ummm ... I like the accessibility and casualness of it. But I do tend to think it ought to be shortened up.
Adam
2:07
How do you feel about Opening Day starts? Should it just be best starter or is there a case for someone who deserves it. For example if each are healthy Garrett Richards is better than Matt Shoemaker, but Shoemaker coming out to pitch opening day after the way his season ended might be more meaningful.
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
Honestly it's mostly a matter of marketing or clubhouse management (respecting certain players, etc). Doesn't mean much otherwise.
2:08
Heck the Cubs just said they are waiting til their fifth game to use Hendricks. Doesn't mean he has been demoted.
Ace
2:08
What do you think Lourdes Gurriel's upside is? Is he most likely a utility man in the majors or is there reason to expect him to become something more?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
I don't think you give a guy $20MM+ as an international free agent if you think his upside is utility guy. (Unless you take that to mean Zobrist-style utility guy.) Guessing they believe he has a real shot at developing into a regular.

better future, the the Yanks Killer G's (Gleybar, Greg, Gary) or the Red Sox Killer B's (Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi)?
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
Hey that's fun! Can't see how you'd bet against the B's at this point, though.
Who ya got?

Killer G's (17.1% | 66 votes)

Killer B's (82.9% | 320 votes)

Do you believe the comments from the Rays owner today show that they have one foot out the door?
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
That wasn't how I read them, but maybe I need to circle back and make sure I didn't miss something.
Dwight K Schrute
2:11
What is your take on the Giants' hiring of Barry Bonds?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
It is a very mild take. Seems to make sense and doesn't really impact things on the field.
Sarah
2:12
Any chance Nate Jones and Robertson split closing duties?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
There could be a change if Robertson's dealt or really struggles, but I doubt they'll share the job.
2:14
While the closer's role is kinda silly in some regards, relievers do say they see merit in having defined roles. Know how to prepare on any given day, etc. And managers like to go with one guy, probably in some part just so they don't have to keep answering questions and can steer clear of the perception of uncertainty.
Aaron
2:14
Would a Dansby extension be similar to Tim Anderson?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
He's a more valuable player with a better outlook, so it should be for more money. But generally, yeah.
Patulence
2:15
How likely is Cozart to Yankees? If so, what kind of return can the seeds expect?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
I don't expect it.
Jackie
2:15
What do the Cubs ultimately do with Heyward if he continues to scuffle?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Reduce his role. Unless there's some sign of an injury, they'll just keep him on the roster. Not much else they can do and he'd be useful regardless.
Postseason roster, though ... who knows? But that's getting way, way ahead of ourselves.
rules
2:16
If you could change one MLB rule heading into 2017, what would it be?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Home plate umps stop calling yay or nay on check swings.
Pitt fan
2:18
Does Huntington over value his prospects? I understand Pitt is low payroll club, but the asking price of Meadows and Glasnow for Quintana seems to be at market value. Quintana is a known stud and it would be for four years.
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
Well, as he explained today (I think), holding off on doing that also delivered a lot of talent onto the current MLB roster. Meadows and Glasnow are in their final stage of development; tough to give them up in a trade and understandable if they're hesitant. It's a fine line, but I can see why they toe it.
