If not an official renaming, there will surely be some more tributes made in Uecker's honour, in addition to the ones already in existence.  I absolutely love that the Brewers have a Uecker statue way up in the upper deck "Uecker seats"
Pivetta
6:39
Am I a candidate to sign after the draft when my signing team doesn't have to lose a pick?
Mark P
6:40
Pivetta would have to be willing to miss over half a season, since the draft is during the All-Star break.  I don't see him going to such lengths.
Marc
6:40
What is happening with Kirby Yates haven't heard anything in a week
Mark P
6:40
He's apparently pretty close to signing with the Dodgers, so expect that to be finalized.....oh, probably during this chat
Sox Fan
6:42
Good afternoon Mark, question regarding the White Sox.  Do you see any of the top 5 prospects (Noah Schultz, Hagen Smith, Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery and Colson Montgomery) breaking camp on the 40-man man roster, to start the season?  As a Sox fan, you hope they field some, if not all of the young talent, right out of the gate.
Mark P
6:43
Breaking camp seems like a reach.  Colson Montgomery could've forced the issue with better Triple-A numbers, but I suspect Chicago will have him start the year in the minors even if he has a big spring.  As much as White Sox fans are eager to get a jumpstart on the future, the team certainly doesn't want to rush these kids before they're ready
AA
6:44
Moved in the shadows on Profar. What is next? Could they get in on Pressly or Scherzer?
Mark P
6:44
Scherzer absolutely fits the Braves' usual model of veteran signings, so that one wouldn't be a surprise at all
Natatude
6:45
Could it be possible, that the Nationals have to many starters?
Mark P
6:46
All together now.....you can never have too much pitching!

If everyone is healthy and pitching reasonably well, the Nats will happily deal with the "problem" of finding innings for everyone when it happens.

Why are so many baseball writers defending the fact there is no competitive balance issues in the sport. Yes they didn’t break any rules (assuming sasaki was clean) but by allowing deferred money and not having a hard cap or at least a soft cap with harsher penalties, the Dodgers are able to use their big market revenue and dominate. They have a rotation of 5 aces dominating lineup and 6 of the top 100 prospects. They won the World Series and were able to add 2 aces and a top closer. In most sports the winning teams are just luckily to  maintain their own players rather than add 3 all stars. Most casual fans have no interest in watching. The sport is in trouble and people in baseball are too close to see it. Do you think they will before it’s too late?
Mark P
6:50
"Most casual fans have no interest in watching" is an odd statement since TV ratings and attendance indicate that fans are very interested in the Dodgers as a draw.

I've written this before in chats and many others have said the same.....the playoff structure and the nature of baseball itself is the game's best defense against one team having an "unfair" advantage over the league.  Why shouldn't the Dodgers be allowed to maximize their resources, since nothing is stopping other big-market teams from doing the same?
MLB level playing field
6:51
i believe that small maket teams doing the little things like retaining the stars they developed can reduce the disparity of playing field. is there any way to help small market owners with discounts like MLB office pays down like 10% of base salary where it exceeds like $30 million. this helps all 30 mlb team keep players and retain star talent
Mark P
6:52
I could see some kind of "Larry Bird rule" negotiated into the next CBA, where as a team is given some extra benefit for retaining a player it drafted and developed itself.  Like, if you sign such a player to an extension, only a portion of his salary counts against your luxury tax or something.
The suggestion you make isn't likely to happen, as bigger-market owners have no incentive to "help" small market owners who aren't spending their money on payroll anyway

Starling Marte and Jonathan Santucci to the A's for reliever Tyler Ferguson and 1B/OF Miguel Andujar. Who says no - A's or Mets? Mets clear Marte's salary and solidify their bullpen with a cheap arm in Ferguson, while Andujar is a solid platoon bat with some positional flexibility. A's get a recent top draft pick in Santucci.
Mark P
6:54
The A's are already at or near their minimum luxury tax number, and I don't see them going that far beyond it to take on Marte in a salary dump.

The Mariners don’t deserve me and my fandom if this continues. Am I being over dramatic?
Mark P
6:55
As someone who switched by NHL allegiance after 30 years of frustrated fandom, I can't blame you if you want to pick a new team.  Following sports is supposed to be fun.

Redsox do not need Bregman. Tell me im wrong
Mark P
6:58
If their top prospects live up to the hype, they probably don't "need" Bregman on a long-term deal.  But Bregman inarguably makes the team better in the short term.

No love for luke raley hitting vs lefties(platoon). In '23 he hit .268.
Mark P
7:00
Raley might well be more than just a platoon bat, as he hasn't had that many career PAs against left-handed pitching.  It wasn't until 2024 that he really struggled against southpaws.  Given their lack of other options, the Mariners might see what Raley can do in everyday action to begin the season, and then move to a platoon if lefties get the better of him

Do you buy into the rumours about Alonso possibly joining the Jays? Vladdy, Santander, and Alonso would be a scary three (plus possibly add in bounce back seasons from Bo and Kirk), and they could win a lot of 9-8 ballgames!
Mark P
7:03
The Jays are surely looking into Alonso, no reason to doubt that.  Whether they're willing to outbid the Mets or are willing to offer a longer-term deal than a three-year opt-out special remains to be seen.

David Rubenstein's comments calling for a salary cap seem concerning for O's fans hoping that his ownership would lead to big extensions/free agent signings. Thoughts?
Mark P
7:04
Every owner would prefer a salary cap in baseball.

To be fair, Jesus Made is being acclaimed as the next Chourio and future #1 overall type prospect after last season.
Mark P
7:05
Made has plenty of potential, but I'd hold off on the "next Chourio" hype because he's still so young

Do we get Announcer/Owner like Brady in MLB.
Mark P
7:06
Ken Kendrick on the microphone during Jordan Montgomery's starts could be pretty entertaining.

Any news on an Alec Bohm trade? Has Philly dropped their demands at all?
Mark P
7:09
Things have been dead quiet on the Bohm front for weeks now.  The Phillies might've moved on, or they'll restart some talks with any interested teams and start making some more realistic offers

Is Mark Buerhle a HoFer for you? Getting a statue at Comisky this year!
Mark P
7:14
Buehrle is in that grey area for me as a player who I probably wouldn't put in my HOF, but I wouldn't complain if he got voted in since he was such a unique talent for so many years.
Tigers
7:14
I’m not liking the makeup of the tigers roster. Jung, Malloy, Tork, and Carpenter are all DH candidates but it will surely be shared between Tork and Carp. I know Malloy and Jung are  defensive liabilities but how can the tigers find them more AB’s as Baez and Mckinstry see fewer?
Mark P
7:14
My guess is that one of your DH candidates (not Carpenter) will be playing on another team by Opening Day.
Joe
7:15
Reading about Twins possibly in on Cease, which doesn’t make sense given their unwillingness to spend.  Regardless, what type of package would it take from the Twins to get him?
Mark P
7:17
Just for fun, I'd love to see the Twins and Padres line up on some kind of creative trade that sees the two teams swap a bunch of contracts and end up in basically the same payroll spot as where they started.

Realistically, a third team might need to be involved in such a trade to help facilitate things in terms of prospects.
