His power numbers and walk rate really plummeted from his rookie season, which is a concern.  Volpe's defense is so good that he can be a valuable player even in his current 87 wRC+ state, yet he'll get more heat simply for not living up to the silly "next Jeter" hype

Were you surprised that Bregman settled for three year contract?
Mark P
9:52
A little, but it seems like he valued the Red Sox because Fenway is a much better spot for offense than Comerica or Rogers Centre.  If you're looking to possibly re-enter the market as soon as next year, Fenway is a great place to boost your hitting numbers.  Doing that while also banking $40MM for one year isn't a bad situation.

What's your picks for 2025 World Series teams?
Mark P
9:52
Still a little too early for me to unleash my official picks for the 2025 season.  Stay tuned!

The person wasn't asking about Orioles and Red Sox hooking up on a Trade but Kekler to either Team.
Mark P
9:54
You're right, I misread that question.

My point stands that I don't think Keller is necessarily a big step above what the O's or Red Sox already have. Maybe Boston is a little more open to moving Abreu in order to free up a lineup spot, but I'm not sure that trade would interest them

Soto or Ohtani most dangerous/Ill advised contract?
Mark P
9:56
Soto.  His deal hasn't started yet, and the Dodgers have already hugely benefited on Ohtani's contract after just one year.

Can my Tigers make World Series by 28?
Mark P
9:57
I'm going to say no just because it's really hard to make the World Series.  Detroit's got an interesting team with a lot of potential, but they could string together four strong seasons and still not win a pennant, because that's just how the playoffs work

Steinbrenner Field is only 20 mins away, but I'm not going to watch the Rays play in the heat we have, not even to watch the Red Sox.

Having been there for a Yankees/Pirates ST game last spring, it was a lovely night at the ballpark.  Granted, a night in March is probably a lot more temperate than a night in July or August.

I think I've mentioned this before in the chat, but the hamburgers at that ballpark are delicious, haha.  Worth the price of admission alone!

Any rumors on Finnegan? Robertson?
Mark P
10:01
There hasn't been much public buzz on either guy.  The Cubs were linked to both, and the Nationals were linked to Finnegan, but that's it

do we really have the pitching to make a deep run this year? We don't have a bonafide Ace and only brought in Minter and Griffin Canning for the BP. lots of good offenses in the NL this year so I am a little skeptical
Mark P

Senga is the key name.  If he returns to his 2023 form, then there's the frontline pitcher right there that New York is missing. Plus, there's always the trade deadline to explore bringing in another arm.

Matos breaks out, Verlander and Ray have bounce back years, Giants snag last wildcard—- do I need psychiatric help?
Mark P
10:05
Stranger things have happened!  Lots of good teams in the NL, so the Giants will need a lot of things to break right on their end, plus a rival or two will have to run into problems

Will Adley return to his top 3 catcher play? He was really bad after the asg last year
Mark P

I can see Sanchez eating up a bit more playing time to give Rutschman more rest, plus the O's can use other players in the DH spot to give more people at-bats.  Rutschman's fade could've been sophomore slump, could've been fatigue, could've been part of the malaise that seemingly most of Baltimore's team found themselves in down the stretch, but I'm still confident he'll have a strong 2025

Pittsburgh does a great job of supporting the Steelers and the Penguins.    Why not the pirates?   A beautiful stadium and such a low payroll.

The Steelers and Penguins have won I think eight combined championships since the Pirates last won the World Series?  There's your answer.

No Bregman means the Tigers need another RH bat?  Think they do a
Mark P

Agreed, but I'm not sure who you necessarily displace.  With Bregman, he's a clear everyday starter, but other RHH bats might be more suited to part-time duty.

You think I played it too safe this off season? Plenty of smart moves, but should I have swung for the fences to get Bregman or Alonso?
Mark P
10:13
This exact Nationals roster with Alonso in place of Lowe, or with Bregman instead of DeJong and the 3B crew....do you think that team makes the playoffs?  Or, even finishes better than fourth in the NL East?

I understand the argument for why the Nats could've or should've make a "Jayson Werth" signing, but nothing is stopping them from making such a statement next winter when they're more sure that their core is ready to take the leap

We've over two hours, so it's time to wrap it up.  Thanks for all the question, and the chat shall return next weekend!
