There's plenty of baseball/SNL crossover!  Harry Caray!

KC needs an OF, Milwaukee has 4 starting quality guys in Frelick/Mitchell/Yelich/Chourio, plus Perkins is probably an upgrade over many other teams' worst starting OF. How would these teams match up in a trade together?
Mark P
9:17
Chourio for Witt, let's get nuts!

On a more serious note, Yelich is enough of an injury concern that I think Milwaukee is content to stand pat with its outfield depth at the moment.

Seems like Mo is staying “hands off”, to give Bloom a clean slate?!?
Mark P
9:20
But, you'd think "clean slate" would mean getting a couple of those contracts off the books?  Or bringing in some new young talent?  You'd think Bloom is already giving some indication of what his plans are, since obviously he's right there in the front office already

Wouldn’t it have it made sense for the Nats and Cards to hook up on an Arenado trade? If the Cards could send some money the Nats way and in return the Nats could get someone like Jose Tena,
Mark P
9:21
STL would want way more than just Jose Tena, even if a salary dump is its primary concern here.  Also, the Nats don't want to tie up third base for too long given that they have some good 3B prospects in the system.  Also, I doubt Arenado has much interest in joining a Nationals team that isn't likely to contend in 2025

Do you think BIg Christmas wins RF job for Guardians ?
Mark P
9:22
Not sure he has the glove for it, or the overall hitting approach to stick in the lineup.  I do hope Noel succeeds as a big league regular, however, just because "Big Christmas" is such an amazing nickname
Twinny
9:23
In a recent article in The Athletic a former GM had the Twins ranked 20 in his power ranking behind 3 other AL Central teams. Are you of a similar opinion? Thanks.
Mark P
9:23
I don't know about overall league-wide, but I agree that they're looking at fourth in that division as things stand right now

Do you foresee my Braves playing the waiting game for the back of rotation options. Seems like we have 6-7 legit options to fill those two spots.
Mark P
9:24
I think they'll grab someone else.  The Braves are trying to win now, and (cliche time!) you can never have too much pitching
Padres fan
9:25
Why haven't we traded Cease or King yet? AJ Preller only cares about now, not the future...
Mark P
9:26
Flags fly forever.  Trading Cease/King makes it trickier for the Padres to win in 2025, which is their priority at this point.  Plus, if Cease/King leave in free agency and reject qualifying offers, the Padres get some future considerations back in the form of compensation picks

Do the Rays make the playoffs this year?
Mark P
9:28
On the one hand, I can never count out the Rays.  But, I don't love their roster in comparison to some other contenders, plus they have the other whole issue of playing their season outdoors in a minor league ballpark in the Tampa heat.
Will Ferrell Sucks
9:30
On a more serious note, the Astros have one of their worst rosters in the past ten or so years. They don't really have anyone to trade either, aside from Valdez and perhaps McCormick/Meyers. How bleak will the next 5 years be for Houston? Is it safe to say that their draft pick penalties in 2020 and 2021 had a larger impact than people would credit?
Mark P
9:32
Speaking of teams I can't count out, the Astros battled through a lot of injury adversity last season but still ended up with another division title.  You're not wrong that the window might be approaching the closed position, but the Astros have done a good job of incorporating somewhat unheralded prospects into regular big league work.

Any word on Kyle Gibson . Seems like he could help anchor a young staff
Mark P
9:33
I feel like he'll just end up back with St. Louis
Kershaw
9:34
Did I get incentives in my contract? Why would I turn down 10M option to accept a 7.5M deal?
Mark P
9:35
Lots of incentives, and he can max out at a $16MM salary
Josh
9:36
Alonso to pass NYM HR record?
Mark P
9:36
Alonso needs 27 this season to pass Strawberry, which seems very doable if he seems healthy
Random GM
9:37
I'm sitting three games back and need a top SP and a top hitter at the trade deadline...who do you believe is available?
Mark P
9:38
Vlad Guerrero, Bo Bichette, Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios

Ah, home team pessimism!
Brad Hand’s Hand
9:39
are the Padres letting David Peralta go? They really think a Heyward/Joe platoon is better??
Mark P
9:39
AJ Preller is a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, and couldn't pass up the chance of the HeyJoe platoon.

Mitch Keller in a deal to Baltimore for Kjerstad or to Boston for Wilyer Abreu.  Would Baltimore or Boston take a deal centered around that?
Mark P
9:40
Neither seems like a fit.  Kjerstad/Abreu wouldn't work for Baltimore, beyond the complications of an intra-division deal.  Keller is a good pitcher but I'm not sure he raises the ceiling of the Orioles' rotation

I don't believe there is one

Think Scott Boras might alter his willingness to land a big extension early after his last two offseasons with good but not recently elite players?
Mark P
9:42
Matt Chapman's extension might indicate such a shift in tactics.  But, it should be noted that while Boras certainly has some common strategies, he adjusts what he does in line with what his clients want.  He works for them, not the other way around.

How many innings will Skenes pitch this year. He said he's training to pitch for 260 but is 200 more likely?
Mark P
9:43
Exactly four pitchers hit the 200-inning threshold last season, so even that seems like an optimistic view.  Good for Skenes for aiming high, however.
CUBBIES
9:43
Will Kyle Tucker stay with the cubs after the season? What will be his stats this season?
Mark P
9:44
I think he'll have a huge season, but I'm leaning towards no on the chances of the Cubs re-signing him.  It would represent a new spending frontier that the team hasn't shown it's comfortable making, despite playing in a big market.

There's no reason the Cubs couldn't pay to retain Tucker, in my view, but then again, it's not my money
