Kaprielian going for MRI. Chances of him hitting the bigs were slim to begin with, but would surgery for him change anything for the pitching-depth-less Yankees trading for some pitching depth?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Assuming this is a real issue ... He might have been the type of guy who could've forced himself up late and been a factor. But would that have really crystallized before the trade deadline anyway? Eh. Maybe. It could play in, but I think they'd already have been looking to buy/sell based on how the season was going at the MLB level.

What is the worst case scenario for the Cubs?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Pitching injuries/declines.
2:24
And either Cards or Pirates have a big season, putting the wild card 1-game play-in in play. Then you could be facing a Scherzer or a Bumgarner or a Kershaw or a Syndergaard/de Grom, and all bets are off.

Last week I suggested Ryan Howard to the Braves and you said it was a poor fit
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
Well, I said the same thing today. But with these sorts of players, there are other factors at play.
2:26
I mean, I don't see why they'd have much interest in having a lefty bench bat only with Freeman on the roster. But if he went in with eyes wide open and wanted the shot in ATL, where he can live at home while playing in Gwinnett, then ... maybe it's a good fit in the broader sense.

How much longer is Pagan going to wait? His 48 hours ended a week ago.
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
Perhaps there was an effort to force a team to pony up some more money that fell through, dunno.

How long until we can say a team's struggle or success is for real?

Do you ever think their will be more interest in college baseball? It seems to be forgotten by many
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
Sorta just the nature of the system as it has developed. I guess it's possible it could grow in popularity, but I'd expect it'll remain a niche sport. But that's fine, it has its fans and traditions and is cool as it is.

Does yesterday's start impact my ability to move Quintana for a top end package. Obviously, repeat occurrences will, but does a start like this give pause to other teams?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
One start? Nah.
Erik

Do LED lights have an impact on hitters ability to see the spin on a baseball?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
In my day, you were lucky if the halogen lights were all on and the infield wasn't full of dips and rocks.
The game is so manicured and well-lit now ... I can't imagine there's some massive problem there. If there is, well, players will probably complain and something will change.

Is Lindor everything the Rangers ever hoped Profar would be?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Seems reasonably apt, yeah.

My girlfriend bought me Cubs tickets for us in Milwaukee on Saturday so I bought her an engagement ring.
Jeffrey Todd

She already knows how to work you, man.
But that's cool, congrats!

How nervous should I be with Garrett Richards biceps cramps??
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
Seems like not much to be concerned about. Guess you'd expect some issues like this just given his layoff and such.

I'm so sick of Pineda. How long until the Yanks say enough? They have plenty of options in the minors.
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
Gotta give the upside a chance to come. If he keeps laying pitches in the zone and getting bombed, guess you push him to the pen at some point.

i recently saw that jered weaver gave up 100 ER last year. what is the single season record for most given up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
Dunno, but it's probably from someone who threw like 370 innings in 1958.
dont propose on saturday

Are the Braves being cheeky or sneaky with signing all of these aged all-stars? Colon, Dickey, Philips, Howard.. If any of these guys show signs of life come the summer (~2 WAR) could they be real chips for a contender?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
Those investments aren't aimed at the trade deadline. I think they are spending to generate interest with the team going to a new park, and to get some veteran leadership, and to set a standard for the young guys and build momentum.

Which manager is most likely to be fired this season? Saw odds that put Hurdle the highest.
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
That'd surprise me given his seemingly tight relationship with the org.
Just thinking quickly about it, though, not a lot of skippers seem to be particularly at risk entering the year.
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
My sources told me Ryan Howard wouldn't go to the Braves and then he did. I'm a big dummy.

What's Eduardo Rodriguez' trade stock ATM? If the Red Sox need a 3rd basemen can he be an integral trade chip?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
But then what of the pitching depth? That doesn't seem particularly likely.
Erik

In 1883 John Coleman allowed 291 over 538.1 innings.
