Without an MRI, how long will I be out?
Mark P
9:58
Feels like a word is missing here, are you asking how long he'd be out if the MRI comes back clean?  Maybe not too long if the wrist if just sore and inflamed, though a quick 10-day IL stint at the start of the season might be in order
Rengifo
9:59
Am I a good trade for Yankees?
Mark P
9:59
Certainly, but the Angels aren't in any rush to trade him
Dom in Aubrey Texas

Rangers will win the AL
Mark P
10:01
I don't think this is that hot a take.  The Rangers still have more or less the same roster that won it all in 2023, and it would be that last season was a bit of a Murphy's Law year.  Or, an "every other year" trend from a Bruce Bochy team.
Cards
10:02
Do you think salary cap is good for MLB?
Mark P
10:05
I don't think a cap would do much to help competitive balance.  Fans seem to think baseball would magically become like the NFL, where teams can pretty rapidly go from bad to good in just one year (which usually isn't really the case, and such big swings only happen when a team lucks into a good quarterback).

I get that fans of small-market teams feel like the deck is stacked against them, yet think about how much owners try to drive that same narrative as an excuse for not spending.
Cardinals
10:05
Was the Sonny Gray signing a mistake?
Mark P
10:06
Gray pitched very well in 2024, so no.
In the big picture, maybe giving him a no-trade clause was a "mistake" since it further limited what the Cardinals could do this winter.  But how it is a bad move when you sign a player and he performs well?
Mike Elias
10:08
With Gunnar possibly out to start the year, who should play 3b, SS, and 2b?
Mark P
10:08
Holliday or maybe Urias at shortstop, the other at 2B, and Westburg at 3B
Jjays
10:09
why didn’t the Jays address 3rd base.
Mark P
10:10
They seem content with giving Clement most of the playing time as a glove-first 3B.  Guerrero will get some time once in a while at third base, plus there's always the chance that Orelvis or one of the other younger guys steps up to earn a larger share of the playing time.
Brewers
10:10
Do you think ppl are underestimating the Brewers ?
Mark P
10:11
People always seem to underestimate the Brewers, and I'm probably in that same boat since I've got Chicago winning the division.  But, I'm pretty certain Milwaukee is at least making the playoffs again, whether as a wild card or as NL Central champs
Redsfan43
10:12
If Steer needs a dl stint, could the Reds bring back Adam Duvall to help? He plays all 3 OF positions,  can play 1st and 3rd too
Mark P
10:12
He hasn't played any corner infield since 2018, so I'd cool your jets on the 1B/3B front.  But as a backup or platoon outfield option that is a known quantity in Cincinnati, there are worse options than Duvall
All Halo Fans
10:14
Do you believe the Angels are a cursed team? Serious question
Mark P
10:15
Angels fans can't complain too much.  I mean, a celestial being literally helped the 1994 team with Tony Danza, Matthew McConaughey, and Adrien Brody win the pennant.
10:16
I enjoy how even the events of "Angels In The Outfield" seem more plausible than Adam Kennedy actually hitting three homers in a game during the 2002 ALCS
Barney Coolio
10:18
Don't forget Danny Glover.  And Joseph Gordon Levitt and Christopher Lloyd, man that was an all star cast.
Mark P
10:19
I was listing just actors who played Angels players in the film, but you're right, it's kind of an incredible group of actors.  Four Oscar winners in that cast!
Bryce Eldridge
10:19
Giants probably won't start my clock in 2024 unless we are contending regardless of what kind of start he gets off to?
Mark P
10:20
The Giants felt good enough to promote all the way up to Triple-A for a few cups of coffee, so Eldridge making his MLB debut before the year is out wouldn't be out of the question.  But, it's likely that if Eldridge does debut, it won't be until September
White Sox
10:21
We are under 90 million spent on players.  Will we sign one more player before the season starts to get closer to 100 million?
Mark P
10:22
The Sox aren't a revenue-sharing recipient, so they're under no obligation to hit the magic $105MM luxury tax number
So, in short, no
Ang T
10:23
If there is a late blockbuster trade to be had, who’s involved and for who?
Mark P
10:23
The Marlins probably wait until the season actually begins to trade Alcantara, but if an eager enough team makes a big enough offer, that deal might certainly happen
RevBaseball
10:24
What many analysts miss is that the 2023 Orioles pitching staff produced 101 wins much larger than the 2024 staff led by Burnes.  The 2025 staff seems closer to the 2023 staff in overall talent.  The return of Bradish later this season could be the ace.
Mark P
10:25
That's asking a lot of Bradish, though, to come back from major surgery and immediately resume pitching at a frontline level.
Jays need a rebuild
10:26
Does Roden have a chance at breaking camp with the Jays? He was the AAA mvp last year and now well over 1000 ops in spring
Mark P
10:27
I'd be a lot more intrigued by Roden on the roster than Straw or Loperfido, so sure, let's give him a shot
CT
10:28
Should minimum team payroll be $100 million ? Or be penalized if a team falls below that threshold.
Mark P
10:29
Technically the $105MM minimum luxury tax number is the penalty, with the logic being that any teams that aren't revenue-sharing recipients would surely have payrolls and tax numbers higher than that modest number.  (Apart from cases like the White Sox)
Mike McDee
10:30
Any more definitive answers on the Meadows and Vierling injuries in Motown?
Mark P
10:31
They're both back to light baseball-related activities, but Meadows hasn't started throwing, and Vierling is getting another medical evaluation in a week or so
KC Pain
10:33
I read that overseas teams asked the Cards for the rights to Luken Baker. Is that a normal thing? Cards declined and he has a hot spring so far, anything to see?
Mark P
10:35
In several cases where a player signs with a NPB/KBO/CPBL team, his current big league team approves the release, just because they don't have any plans for the player and don't want to get in the way of his career.

So, in many other unpublicized cases, MLB teams do decline such overtures from international clubs
