The Rockies ought to have a good pen so long as Greg Holland stays unbroken. And the Pads have some good arms too. I feel like the Rangers have a bit more obvious paths to a bounceback w the relievers than the Cards. If Oh isn't going to miss as many bats, that's a big change. And Rosenthal may or may not be a savior.

How much longer are the Twins going to allow Buxton to suffer?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
Like, half the season at least. Can't think he'll keep striking out half the time, though if that really does continue for a long time they'd probably have to drop him.
(To Triple-A.)

Hold off the Astros? You're forgetting the good ole Rangers there
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
I'm not all that bullish. Not saying they can't win the division, but I see HOU as the favs.

Billingsley, Morton, Buchholz...are the Phillies targeting the wrong kinds of buy low/bounce back guys, or are they just getting unlucky?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
I was thinking about this. Billingsley was lower $ so hard to really factor him in this. Morton showed interesting stuff last year and that led the Astros to make a similar bet on him. Buchholz was obviously a rather significant health risk, but ... probably just bad luck for the most part. It's the nature of the game.
Also they hit pretty well on Hellickson.

What does for real entail? The reds aren't gonna continue leading the central

"Remain in contention for much of the season" would be my definition of "4REALZ"

Do you expect Mets will shut down Wheeler at some point if they believe they will be in the playoffs? Or give gradual rest?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
There's only so much you can jerk these guys around, seems to me. I'm no expert, but the safer course -- remember, he had a very long TJ layoff -- is to handle him carefully and get what you can when you can. If it reaches a point where he's not able to keep throwing owing to long-term concerns, so be it. But starting/stopping would seem dangerous. Spreading things out some might have more merit in theory.

Will Benoit's (theoretically increased) save total add significantly to his trade value, or are teams generally over saves?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Not really, though throwing in high leverage spots and having to face switch-hitters (pitching w/out platoon advantage) might.

Do you think the Nationals could have gotten Kevin Keirmaier with the package that they gave up for Adam Eaton?
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
Guessing no. Arguably similarly valuable assets (talking pre-KK extension), though I don't feel like TBR would've bitten on that kind of trade for that player.

Your opinion on the "chop?" Bad taste or harmless fun?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
Caricatures of a race pass the line for me. I think it's time to retire it.
Spoken as someone who grew up in the DC area when a certain NFL franchise was quite good.

Is a team like the Phillies at an advantage to sign Otani? They aren't super competitive, so they can take the gamble on letting him be a two way player. At the same time, they're close enough to contention that he could be this generation's Jim Thome-type signing.
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Don't see the lack of competitiveness being a driver. If he is really committed to playing two ways (DH ok? does he want to play field?) then that'll impact things, but mostly based upon team composition and each front office's assessment of the validity of that approach.
2:38
I guess the way it could play in is if teams just don't think he's ready to hit in the majors and he wants to be at least a semi-regular player. In that case, I guess ad: rebuilders. But surely he'll also weigh that in his own balance.
As in: he probably doesn't want to play for a team that has no realistic chance of being competitive.

So May 24th seems to be the date Ryan Braun will achieve 10-5 rights. As of now, his no trade clause only allows trades to 6 teams, one of which we know is The Dodgers. Gotta think that's the real trade deadline for Braun because after that, I'm sure he'll want his 2021 $15 million mutual option guaranteed by any team before he agrees to a trade.
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Mid-May would be a really odd time for a player of his ability to be traded. Given that he can already control his destination to a large part, I don't see it as an all or nothing date.

Suggestions on any part-time, work from home jobs I can look into getting for this summer while I study for the bar?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
If I had it to do over again, I'd focus on getting outside as much as possible and establish a healthy work/life balance in advance of a career sitting on your arse.
Go do some manual labor for exercise and perspective?

This week sucked for the Braves, but they're much better than their record right? Would be 5-3 with a better bullpen (which is coming when Cabrera is back and Minter gets called up)
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Lots of teams are missing a guy or two. Not sure those call-ups are going to drastically change anything. (And good pens don't protect every lead.)
I don't expect they'll end up losing three games for every win, but on paper they remain one of the least good teams in baseball.

Are you looking forward to Suntrust Park?
Jeffrey Todd

I really am not. Cookie cutter park in suburbia ... just ain't my jam.

Wouldn't Eloy Jimenez, Happ and a lottery ticket prospect for Quintana make sense for both sides? It seems foolish these two teams wouldn't make a trade just because both are from the same city.
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
I think they'd deal if it made sense. That seems like a very big ask. Two premium prospects? Little rich, and I like Q.

Is solarte a padre after the trade deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
I think so. The extension seemed to reflect a good relationship between team and player.

Rockies are good but I dont trust the pitching staff and believe the Dodgers are just too much to handle over the course if a long season. If we fall off, what do you think we could get for Mark Reynolds. Not necessarily names per say but like what type of prospect(s)? Thanks!
