Chris Roycroft will be the best NL player with ROY in his name this season
(This joke was made after a five-second skim through Baseball Reference, so I hope I'm not forgetting someone incredibly obvious, haha)

If you was older you'd pick Koufax over Maddux.
Mark P
10:03
The issue with Koufax is that he had an unbelievable five-year run, but it was only five years.  In GOAT discussions, it's hard to rank him ahead of players who posted comparable numbers over a far longer period

What other websites do you have pulled up prior/during these chats?
Mark P

I've got Baseball Reference, Fangraphs, and MLBTR up here in tabs for quick reference or stat checks during these chats

What would the Mets record have to be to be sellers at the deadline. I think they are way overrated.
Mark P
10:05
They'd have to be well out of the playoff race, since this is a team with a lot invested in perpetual contention.  I guess the quick pivot to selling in 2023 could be a sign that the Mets might be willing to sell in certain circumstances, but things are much different in the organization than they were even two years ago

Is there anything we can take away from this first weekend of games or is it just noise for a while
Mark P
10:07
Far too early to over-react about anything overly positive or negative.  Unless it's an injury that takes a player out for an extended period of time, I'm not sure much will happen in the first week that will be a direct sign of how the rest of 2025 will go

Padres are off to a hot start against the Braves. However will they do something to bring in one more starter as they have burned through the pen quickly so far this year.
Mark P
10:11
Darvish's return should help solve one hole in the rotation, even if that'll still be at least a few weeks away.  The Padres have some pitchers with MLB experience in the minors but not that many, so they seem like a good candidate to perhaps seek out a veteran arm or two on the waiver wire or in a minor trade.  I agree that with a bit more good pitching, baby, the Padres have got a stew going

Mark thanks for long chat. I've asked a question for 12 straight weeks without an answer so help me keep my streak alive and do not answer this one.  Do you think Mike Trout will end up back in CF this year?
Mark P
10:13
The streak....is over!
He'll get into CF for maybe a handful of games, or in late-inning move or something.  But, not for any extended period of time if everyone is healthy.
10:14
I went a bit longer with the chat due to last weekend's absence, but it's time to wrap things up.  Thanks for all the questions, and we'll be back for more next weekend!
