Similar answer here to the JD Martinez question earlier.  The longer we get into the season, the less chance it is that either player signs.

I still have to believe Robertson will land somewhere. His lingering free agent stay is pretty baffling to me.

You mentioned that Joe Morgan played for the Giants, which reminds me of the fun fact that he was an Astro for more years than he was a Red. Seems so indelibly a Red, but it's true.
Mark P
9:21
The rise of Immaculate Grid has probably helped raise the awareness of star players who randomly played a season or two on another team, but yeah, Morgan's Houston days are almost forgotten.

Is Soriano going to be a building block or a trading chip for the Angels?
Mark P
9:23
Under team control through 2028, so it doesn't seem like he'll be dealt any time soon.  Plus the Angels need plenty of pitching, so building block it is
Kyle
9:24
Is a Red Sox outfielder trade in their near future? Which one has the most value/makes the most sense to move?
Mark P
9:25
To make room for Anthony?  There won't be a trade or anything, but I think Anthony (if called up) will cut into Rafaela's at-bats
Assuming Duran and Abreu keep producing, of course
luis robert?
9:27
who do you see as the team that swings this trade
Mark P
9:28
The Reds have been linked to Robert already, and plus Krall seems to prefer building through trades anyway, given Cincinnati's payroll limitations.  So, I'll call Cincy the favorite at the moment, based purely on vibes.
Next Gen Natitude?
9:29
David Robertson turns 40 in less than two weeks and has made more than $105M (without agent fees). I suspect that he's simply not willing to sign with just anybody, but would consider a team with a shot at a WS ring.
Mark P
9:30
Fair, though like two dozen teams have at least a legitimate chance at the playoffs, and there are maybe 10 viable World Series contenders if everything breaks right for them.
9:31
So it's not like Robertson is necessarily short on possible destinations that would give him a chance to win.  But, if he is being picky, fair play to him....that's his right to call his shots as a free agent about where he wants to go

What can the Sox expect when they trade Devers?
Mark P
9:32
I won't lie, I spent a couple of minutes scrolling through Cot's and trying to come up with some realistic/feasible/viable possibilities for a Devers trade, but it's a tough fit.

And, to be fair, it has been all of four games.  Devers gets a couple of hits next time out and all is forgotten.

Yoshida is coming back before long and will need a place to play as well, I'm assuming that's left field?
Mark P
9:35
Yoshida doesn't really have much place to play if everyone is healthy, and I honestly wonder if he's even much of a priority for the Sox at this point.

Why would you even throw a almost strike to Judge? Dont get it
Mark P
9:37
You can't just walk him every single time, or hope that he chases enough pitches off the plate.  So pitchers are usually forced into giving him at least one decent pitch to hit per at-bat, and Judge is so dangerous when given even one opportunity
Tom
9:38
Will anyone ever get close to Nolan Ryan’s strikeout record?
Mark P
9:39
Nope.  More batters are swinging and missing than ever before, and modern health advances have made it easier for some pitchers to have longer careers.  But, due to the rise in bullpen usage, starters are pitching fewer innings than ever.

That makes Ryan's record look pretty untouchable, unless another absolute unicorn of a durable strikeout machine comes along.

Is Jose injury going to linger for weeks? Team needs all the help  offensively it can get. Would a lengthy injury move Arias to 3rd and make them rush Bazanna?
Mark P
9:42
The tests were all clean, so Ramirez might avoid the IL altogether, or perhaps have just a 10-day stint if he needs time for the swelling to go down

Too early to worry about the Royals OF?   India is not the answer out there.   Any chance there is any FA to fill the gap?
Mark P
9:43
The Royals had all offseason to improve their outfield, but opted for basically just the experiment of using India at an unfamiliar position.  It's certainly less than ideal, and if in the playoff hunt by the deadline, KC will absolutely be looking for outfield help

All time starting 9?
Mark P
9:48
Ruth LF, Mays CF, Aaron RF, Schmidt 3B, A-Rod SS, Astros legend Joe Morgan 2B, Gehrig 1B, Bench C, Ted Williams DH
Red Sox
9:49
So you’re sure they won’t trade anyone, but they have too 100 prospects knocking, yoshida coming back and want to extend Campbell. Man I wish I was as psychic as you are
Mark P
9:49
Injuries or slumps could solve the roster logjam problem without the need for a trade.

How many more years can you see Verlander throwing?
Mark P
9:51
I can see Verlander pitching this year and in 2026.  Beyond that, I'm not willing to commit to anything.

All time starting nine pitcher  Koufax

Oops, forgot to put a pitcher in there.  I'd have Greg Maddux as my SP
Severino and Springs
9:52
Severino and Springs combined for 12.0IP with no earned runs. A's kinda have a vibe, went 2-2 in a tough road setting while outscoring Seattle 14-8. Is there something here?
Mark P
9:53
the Mariners aren't exactly the best-hitting team in baseball, but it's certainly a promising start for the A's.  I wouldn't be shocked by a dark-horse playoff push for the Athletics, even if they'd likely need a couple of more clear-cut contenders stumble
Astros fan
9:55
With Rafael Monterrey and Jose Abreu’s horrible contracts coming off the books next offseason (about 30 million), can they use that money to extend Framber Valdez?
Mark P
9:57
The fact that the Astros seemingly haven't had any extension talks at all with Valdez makes me think they're prepared to just let him walk.  The Astros can then reinvest those payroll savings into acquiring another pitcher, or perhaps extending Hunter Brown

Why don’t more injury prone pitchers consider moving to the closer role, IE Smoltz/Wood. Imagine DeGrom as a CP
Mark P
9:59
Plenty of pitchers do turn to relief pitching out of necessity, but in deGrom's case, he clearly feels he has more to contribute as a starter
