Any chance Braun moved before 5 and 10 kicks in? How does Bollinger call up affect that possibility with LA?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
I don't see any reason to expect an early Braun deal. In his case (already has NTC over all but 6 teams) I don't think the 10-5 makes a big diffrence.
Also, it's possible Bellinger runs with the job, but he's a pretty risky play right now (big K numbers). Could still see a match there, though it seems far from inevitable.

I'm heading on a small trip to Coors, Globe Life and Minute Maid park in a three day span. Any good recos for stadium grub?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Coors: go to the Falling Rock tap room. Solid food and incredible beer selection. I miss it : (

Why is the Mets management and medical staff incapable of managing injuries and the DL? They look like complete fools.
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
Sometimes you get unlucky, too. Never know how a guy will feel when he wakes up. Or how he'll respond when he turns on the jets while running out an xbh.

Thoughts on Aaron Judge. Kid is legit. We knew about the power, defense, arm, athleticism. Plate disp making the diff
Jeffrey Todd

Yeah, if that holds up then look out.

Profar struggling brings his stock down. Think the padres can finally get him for one of their relievers? Hand, buchter or Maurer?
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
I get that some teams would still take a shot on Profar, but I just don't see a ton of value at all. I don't know, I might prefer to see the Padres just wait and try for younger talent with those guys. Profar is in his 2nd of 4 arb years already.
2:29
Then again, can't hurt to just put him at his natural SS and give him a full opportunity. And we are talking about relievers of varying but hardly elite value.

What do I do with a .500 ballclub at the deadline? Stand pat? Continue to tear down? Buy pitching?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
That'd be a hold, but he could consider deals for Braun or other major forward-looking trades. You just probably wouldn't see smaller swaps like getting rid of rotation depth just to clear the deck. Hard to see any real buy-side moves, though I suppose MIL could dedicate some minor resources (mostly, near-term salary) to bolstering wherever the needs are. Could even give young talent if it seems guys will be hard to keep in advance of the offseason Rule 5.

Is it time for Terry Collins to go?
Jeffrey Todd

Has he been secretly injuring his players?

Given you have a chance to face 10 straight Aroldis Chapman fastballs, do you hit one out of the infield?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
As an avid amatuer player in decent physical condition, no.
Would be thrilled with any contact.

When do you think Amed Rosario gets called up
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
September 1 is still the target for me, but he could come earlier.

I've got my bags packed and ready to go; am I going to Washington or to Texas ? and how soon?
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
Stand down. Nothing imminent IMO.

The Bad News Bears are the only ursine nicknamed team recognized in these parts.
I mean, the Cubs, too, I suppose.

Do you think more KBO players will come over if Eric Thames continues to hit?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
It's still likely to be a fairly selective group. But he's hardly the only example. Just one of a growing number who have shown they can thrive in the majors.

Should Cleveland try to extend Allen, Miller, and/or Brantley?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
The answer is always "yes, at the right price." But in these cases, seem too risky and likely too expensive for CLE.

Hey Jeff. What do you think of Dick Williams' comments a few weeks ago when he said the Reds would consider eliminating traditional pitcher roles such as closers and starters? Can this work for them? Do you see other teams emulating this style in the future?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
I thought it was interesting. We have seen hints of this before, and certainly outside analyst types have long played around with these kinds of ideas. But to hear a GM really suggest it could be in play directly is pretty cool.
2:39
It does make increasing sense when you think about the number of big arms filtering up and the observations about things like times through the order. It could end up evolving in any number of ways, but the more it's explored the more intriguing options could emerge -- esp for smaller-market teams.

think NYY swing a deal for a SP at deadline? if so, who are potential targets?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
I'll bet there's at least one ugly spot in their rotation come the deadline. Question will be whether they are in such a position that it is something they need to address. I can definitely see them adding. Sure, this may not be the year, but why wouldn't they go ahead and make an add now if it could help get to the postseason? Esp if it means getting a guy for the future -- where the rotation has many questions.

trade Joey Gallo if he's hot after Beltre comes back? A drop off in the long term, but could net a serviceable pitcher?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
More likely he moves into a bigger part of the picture in LF/1B/DH (and also spells Beltre at third) and becomes seen as a future piece in TEX.

2:44
Who is going to be this years Trea Turner?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
There's no comparable player to my mind. We have been a bit spoiled with some of the guys who have reached the majors mid-year in recent campaigns. Some were just amazing talents. In Turner's case, it's that, plus the fact that he realistically was ready for the majors some time before his call-up.
My own expectation is that guys like Bellinger, Moncada, whoever else might get an early look ... just seem more raw and more likely to struggle than were players like Corrrea, Bregman, Lindor, etc.
