Thoughts on Luis Robert? Very slow start but really starting to heat up. Will the market for him be strong?
Mark P
10:16
Teams won't forget his issues last year or his rough start, but sure, two months of consistently good play should boost Robert's trade value considerably
10:17
Whether that's enough to get the Sox to actually budge on a deal is another question, since obviously Chicago will still want a ton for a player who is such a big trade chip for them.  Teams will only be willing to meet Chicago's asking price if Robert either looks truly elite between now and July 31st, or if he has a full and healthy season to fully restore his value.

Pirates fire Shelton and name Jason Kendall manger. Good idea?
Mark P
10:18
I'm not saying that Shelton is deserves unlimited job security or anything, but I also think the Pirates' issues run deeper than whomever is in the manager's chair

Is Kenta Maeda done or do you think he'll turn up somewhere? And it what role ... starter, swingman, or short reliever?
Mark P
10:21
He obviously won't get claimed on waivers since nobody wants that salary, but assuming a release happens, Detroit will eat the money and Maeda will land elsewhere on a minor league deal.  He has enough of a track record that I wouldn't rule out a bounce-back (as a reliever/swingman) with a change of scenery.

I may be clinging to that last part since man, I was so sure that Maeda was going to be a hit in Detroit, ha ha.  If you told me a year ago that the Tigers would be in the 2024 playoffs and off to a great start in 2025, I would've assumed it was because Maeda was leading the charge.

Rockies ownership and management ever gonna get it together? With the elevation affect on the pitchers,  wondering if MLB would be better off if they relocate.
Mark P
10:24
MLB is never going to want to leave the Denver market.  The fanbase has remained loyal and eager for baseball even amidst all of the Rockies' struggles, though something like a 115-loss season will surely try their patience.

There's just no easy fix for the Rockies' problems, barring either a new owner or Monfort deciding to totally change how he runs his team.

When do the Brewers start selling and is there any way they can unload Yelich?
Mark P
10:28
Yelich is owed too much money to be dealt, unless the Brewers eat the vast majority of the deal.  I also don't think the Brewers will be deadline "sellers" at all, since I've learned to never count them out.
3rd Base Solved
10:28
Would Ryan McMahon be available for cheap for the Cubs 3rd base hole
Mark P
10:30
Anthony Franco wrote a subscriber piece this week about how it seems like the Rockies missed their ideal window for trading McMahon, since now he's slumping badly.  "Change of scenery" notwithstanding, if you're the Cubs, you don't have much interest in getting a third baseman who's both pricey and struggling.

If Coby Mayo doesn’t play well in his current MLB stint, is his value diminished greatly?
Mark P
10:31
As noted earlier with the Caminero answer, it's not often that a star prospect is great from day one.  And Caminero is basically a seasoned vet compared to Mayo, who has like 50 PA at the big league level.

He might well struggle again in this latest stint in the Show, yet it'll take a larger sample size before we can write off Mayo as either a future contributor or a possible trade chip

Does 400 million feel like the floor for Tucker if he continues to perform the way he has?
Mark P
10:32
Most definitely.  I think Tucker easily clears $400MM and will get closer to $500MM

Will the Jays be sellers
Mark P
10:33
In all likelihood, yes.

10:34
Do the A's just need to hope for player development? They signed Rooker, but I can't imagine ownership spends much more money to improve the team
Mark P
10:35
In theory, the A's will spend more once they're in Vegas and have more revenues flowing in.

In theory.
Agustin Ramirez
10:36
Am I the marlins catcher of the future?
Mark P
10:37
Given the questions about his defense, Ramirez might be more of a 1B/DH type eventually.  Joe Mack is also there as better "catcher of the future" candidate

10:38
Will the Nats extend Abrams or Wood?
Mark P
10:39
Wood is represented by Scott Boras, so that might be the less likely of the two extension candidates.  Locking up a cornerstone player or two would be another way for the Nats to signal that the rebuild is now over, but time will tell
(Acknowledging that the Nats have already locked up one guy in Ruiz.)
Jim
10:40
What do you make of the A's start? Real or mirage?
Mark P
10:41
I think the lineup is for real, but (barring a trade) the team probably doesn't have the pitching to really be contenders
PoseyisbetterthanFarhan
10:42
Thoughts on SF Giants trading Robbie Ray at the deadline to bolster 1B since their pitching depth is absurd both in AAA(even with Harrison getting called up today) and on the big league club?
Mark P
10:43
I'd consider this pretty unlikely.  Ray is looking something like his pre-injury self, plus that "pitching depth" features a lot of unproven arms.
Bryce
10:44
Is this the best mega long term deal ever entered into for a team?
Mark P
10:46
I guess it depends on what your standard for a "mega long-term deal" is.  Jeter's ten-year, $189MM deal with the Yankees worked spectacularly well.  Scherzer's deal with Washington was a huge success.  Betts' deal with the Dodgers is working out great.

You can (incredibly) already make the case that Ohtani's contract might be the answer.  The Dodgers already have one ring and a big chunk of the deal has already been paid for via sponsorship contracts and other outside revenue sources.

10:48
what do you think about Campbell moving to 1B and bringing up Mayer to play 2B?
Mark P
10:48
While Campbell could probably adjust quickly, he has never played even a game at 1B at either the pro or college level
Jim
10:49
If the A's paid Andujar's salary, what kind of return could they get for him?
Mark P
10:50
He's only making $3MM, so that's not exactly a huge figure for an outfield-needy team (Royals? Guardians?) take on

Does McLain need to get sent down? Tito keeps plugging him in the 2-hole but at some point, you’ve got to produce.
Mark P
10:53
At least a drop in the batting order would make sense as a first step.  If that doesn't work, sure, a Triple-A demotion might then help McLain get on track.
