They would have to be waaay out of it. Don't see that, especially since nobody else is running of with the division.

I know I am tempting the hands of fate by waiting out the SP market. How long dare I continue. If it a'int broke don't fix it, right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Astros should absolutely wait. They are in no rush to get a guy in there right now with a huge lead. Priority should be getting the right pitcher, with the biggest impact, and many possibilities aren't yet available.

Tell me the Brewers wont be making any major acquisitions this year at the deadline to make me feel better. They should be adding a few more pieces to their minor league depth, not gutting it...
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
If they were leading the division and had a chance to add a controllable player at an area of need, it's possible. But I don't foresee any huge deals for rentals, no.

curious as to your thoughts on colon/dickey. I really cant imagine the braves let them go back out there and give up 7+ runs every time when the younger guys couldn't do any worse...how long before enough is enough??
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
I don't see a change any time soon.

Why do the a's insist on playing mediocre veterans like rajai plouffe and joyce almost daily? They have no future with the organization so why not get guys like Pinder (who's hitting the cover off the ball in minimal playing time) more at bats?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
They have committed a lot of cash to those guys. Not much choice but to hope they turn it around a bit and at least generate some trade value to allow the club to recoup some of the investment.
If Chad Pinder is legit, he'll get his chance to do it on a regular basis in due time.

Should I sell all my assets? Cruz Valencia...etc and do you think anyone would even consider Hernandez or iwakuma? If healthy of course
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Imagine they just win 5 straight ... suddenly they're in WC position. They will wait it out to decide.
Pascal
2:58
What would a Correa extension look like?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
He has a big bonus in his pocket and plenty of endorsement opportunities. So it'd probably have to be something that really set a new bar.

If the Rangers sell there's no way Lunhow makes a move for Darvish and restocks their farm for them right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
I don't think either organization could afford to limit its market if Darvish is on the market. If he's the best rental arm and the Astros choose to go that route, they have to try for him. And if the Astros make the best offer for such a significant player, I think the Rangers have to take it.

Matz and Smith get the conversation started for Donaldson?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Jays are charging so it's mostly academic. But ... I don't know, the injuries do cut against Donaldson, but I still think I'd want more. Matz is a really nice piece, but the health is such a concern. Smith is a nice prospect but he's not really a carrying piece for a player of Donaldson's caliber.
Mets
3:05
Reed, Duda, Walker, Grandson, Bruce - do any of these guys get us a top prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
No, but all could have real value. I mean, I guess it depends how you define "top prospect," but I wouldn't expect some super premium guy coming in return.

Is it just me being in the Chicagoland market, or does Boras lobby all the time for his under-performing-potential-200MM clients by going to the media and defending them?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
It is his job.
Sophia
3:07
Are there any Pirates prospects that you would consider untouchable this year in trade talks?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
All of them, more or less, b/c they aren't likely to be sending out young players for veterans.
Big Maple
3:08
If the M's are out of it, what kind of return could they get for Paxton?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
The way he's trending, a very significant one.
Remember, Pomeranz drew a significant prospect last year despite a fairly thin record. I think a lot of teams would be really excited by Paxton. Not sure he'd be shopped, though, even if they are way out of it.

I see the hand suitors list one as Boston. Would Boston really deal with the padres again?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
I'm sure there'd be some hesitation, but I don't know that they can just rule out the Padres as a trade partner.
Jason vargas

Should the Royals just trade me now before I start pitching normal
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Go for it, just don't expect any teams to give up assets that reflect his ERA.

Santana can't return a top 30 prospect????
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I didn't say that. I was talking about all 3 guys in the aggregate. But ... I just looked, and Ervin is generating a .143 BABIP. That's insanely low. He's coming back down to earth.
Pine Marten
3:13
Mark Reynolds just hit another bomb. Chances he receives an MVP vote at end of year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Sorry, but your expectations are way too high if you think that's a possibility.
Dookie Howser MD
3:13
Do either of the Atlanta catchers have any trade value? Flowers is slashing .358/462/468 and only has one year of control left, but Suzuki isn't doing so bad and isn't a long term asset for the rebuilding Braves
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Sure, some. I wouldn't expect any teams to go wild, but they could be nice targets -- esp if there are some injuries that cause demand to tick up.
3:15
Okay, couple more and I have to run.

Can you see Boston going after Texas's thirdbaseman?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
I still don't see the Rangers as very likely sellers. But if Beltre is himself, and he was marketed, he'd draw quite a bit of interest. I mean, we keep waiting for him to tail off but he was 6+ WAR last year.
