If cueto opts out and the giants don't trade him do they try to resign him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Giants have a ton of big contracts on the books and will be coming off of a rather ugly season, probably. So I'll guess no.
Jacob
2:50
Chances Rockies resign Holland if he opts out after the season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
No idea, but he could be a QO guy. If they get a season of shutdown closing and draft compensation out of the deal, you just have to feel lucky as heck and move on.

With the Pirates lurking around .500 in a currently weak division, what would the returns be like for Cutch and Cole?
Believeland Indians
2:52
Do the Tribe make a play for another SP? Pick up Vargas on the cheap as insurance?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
What's interesting here to me is how bunched the central divisions are. Some teams with significant veteran players are still hanging around. Then you have the defending league champs on both sides playing around .500.
2:53
So ... I'm not going to answer these questions, exactly. It's possible to imagine some of these teams deciding on a bold course in either direction. But it's also possible to imagine quite a few of these clubs just saying "screw it, let's stick with what we've got and see what happens."
Mlb trade

With the Rangers about to activate Tyson Ross, Carlos Gomez, Mike Napoli and just having swept the nationals and beat the Astros, do you think they can turn it around ?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
They can still challenge for the wild card but I think the division is out of reach. Those three guys perhaps still come with some upside, but I don't expect more than solid production at this point.

Any truth that Cards may make a play for Donaldson? I'd so what would it take to land him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Cards have worse record than the Jays and don't really need a 3B.
Adam
2:56
Are the Brewers really this good? I know they are still in first place, but I feel like thats more a result of the Cubs and Cards under-performing. What say you?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Around .500, maybe slightly above ... seems reasonable to think they are that good. Not sure they can hold onto the division, but they are in position and do have some real talent, obviously. Plus there are still some guys who can conceivably do more in the 2nd half -- Villar bounceback? Braun healthy? Brinson breakout? Etc.
Baseball Movie Poll
2:57
Can we poll which is the best baseball movie? Sandlot or Field of Dreams?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
I've been asked this a lot. May have even done a poll before. But sure

At what point do people stop looking at the peripherals of stats when a player has good face value stats(avg., era, etc) and the player has still been producing all year long despite the advance stats and stuff saying they should be worse?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Basically never. You can start looking for reasons why certain underlying measures aren't adequately reflecting the reason for the player's success, but quite often there is just some variation or luck involved when the output isn't matched by what lies beneath.
Twin Fan
3:00
Speaking of Melancon can the Twins get him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Very little chance the Twins add a significant veteran at the deadline. May explore some smaller moves or maaaaybe some controllable types, but I expect Minny mostly to hold.
Where Am I
3:02
Who is Billy Bulter?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
He's probably wandering the Himalayas, soul searching.
We miss you, Billy. Come back.

Ruben Amaro is at CBP ... but he's not the GM.
Seems that's working well for Ruben. I'm happy for him.
Doolitte's Beard
3:04
Jed Lowrie to Mets? Or will the Mets decide not to be buyers?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
I lean toward the Mets largely holding. Remember, they tried to but did not shed some salary before the season started. Division hole, huge injuries, tough WC race, need to fill several spots after the season ... it doesn't line up to giving up future assets to win now.
Okay, couple more and I have to head out.

Just allowing some others to air their views.
3:07
For the record, The Sandlot is the best. It's what baseball is all about. It's cheesy and nostalgic and perfect. Love it.

Do that White Sox sign Avi to an extension this off-season or trade him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Guessing neither.

With Cesar Hernandez out 6 weeks, any chance the phillies move Galvis to 2nd and bring up Crawford?
Jeffrey Todd

You just basically shot this down yesterday, Matt.
