Haven't thought through possibilities, but yeah, I think so. It's a pretty easy risk to take for the right team. Little downside.
Not sure anyone will take over his salary, though it isn't that much either.

Can you give a grade to the job Billy Eppler has done in Anaheim so far? Imo, he was handed a terrible situation and has really made the best of it
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
He has done a great job of getting value from the scrap heap. Some of that may be good fortune, but it is notable. Real test is how he achieves long-term talent while doing something to take advantage of having the game's best player.

Lots of names thrown around if the Giants start selling like Nunez, Cueto, Samardzija, Belt, Moore.  But the Giants aren't traditionally sellers.  It seems like if they were to ever pick a time to be sellers it would be now though.  Could you see them actually selling on 3 or 4 or more players or is it just Nunez and try to compete again next year.
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
I tend to expect a lighter sale ... Nunez seems obvious. Perhaps a reliever. Cueto, as noted, is a possibility.

How likely is a Jarrod Dyson trade and who
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
All depends upon whether Seattle can stay in wild card contention, which right now they are. He'd be a really fun deadline chip, though, b/c he's a great piece on a playoff roster.
Bucco
2:32
Any chance of the Pirates going after a top of the rotation arm this season?  Are they a big bat and a pitcher away from really making a run at the central?  Can Cutch fetch both of these?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Not really that I see.
2:33
And it's not clear to me how you could expect them to trade McCutchen for two players that are going to be immediate, quality contributors.
2:35
I am expecting the Pirates to pursue the Melancon type deals again, fwiw. Not totally punt the year but try to get some future value back. If that doesn't work out, though, they could just hold.
Bradley

NL Central - Should the Brewers go for it or continue rebuilding at deadline? Depending on that choice, what moves should they make?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
They should go for it by largely standing pat and seeing where their talent takes them.
Brian Harris
2:38
How soon could a brad hand trade happen and to whom?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Could happen at any time to basically any contender.
Sorry, but it's true.
2:39
That's a boring answer, but it isn't true of all trade candidates. In that case, have to think the Padres are willing to move him whenever they see an offer they really like.
Glenn
2:39
If the Cubs linger around. 500, any chance they trade Arrieta? Or is the comp pick the better return?
Jeffrey Todd
2:40
They are still in the division hunt. No way they try to get a prospect return in that situation after winning the WS and in the midst of the Wrigley revival efforts.
Klentak
2:40
If Hech gets somethin' good... Am I gonna start marketing Galvis?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
There's not going to be much demand for either player. Some teams can use fill-ins at short, but it's not like any orgs will be pursuing those guys as starters.
OL' PERFESSER

The best things the Cubs could do is trade Arieta, before you tell me I am crazy think about the return now and no return after the season.
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Oh, so this is a popular opinion! I also don't think the return would be so overwhelming that it could really make it hard  to say no.
Bobby V
2:43
would you use Tapia & Dahl  as trade bait?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
For a controllable starter, yeah, I'd strongly consider it. Time is now ... and it's so important to win the division, esp since Rox don't have a lockdown ace to take a WC play-in game.

Here I am in the lounge at the Field of Dreams bar in Iowa?  Cocktail after the chat, Jeffery?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
I'm so there.

2:45
Should the Braves just cut their losses with Colon?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Not just yet.
Ryan
2:46
Could Brad Hand and Clayton Richard get Paulino from the Astros?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
I don't see HOU really need a Richard-level starter. Not seeing it.
Graham
2:46
Can the Reds actually get some value for any of the players on their roster, or will they continue to miss out on acquiring top minor league talent at the trade deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Cozart is playing well enough to bring back a solid return (assuming he's healthy). But the demand just isn't there. Should still get them something, but I don't see pieces that will bring back exciting prospects.
Rick Hahn
2:48
Based on their large division lead the nationals would only really be stengthening their bullpen for October.  Based on this they probably won't make a move until closer to the deadline or if relievers start moving, correct?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Yes, in that they arent as likely to pay a premium to make a deal right now as you'd expect given the degree of the struggles. If the Mets were sitting 2 games back it'd be different.
Jerry
2:49
Could you see the Mariners selling high on Ben Gamel to try to bring back some help for their aging, oft-injured starting rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
I mean, he's carrying an unsustainable BABIP, and other teams know that too.
2:50
Seattle will wait to see the health status of the guys on the DL and to see what the  standings look like before making major moves.
(Though Dipoto being Dipoto, I guess we can't rule anything out. Let's say they will wait to make any major win-now, need-based moves.)
