With Heyward on the DL and Schwarber sent down do the Cubs kick the tires on JD Martinez?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Not likely the best allocation of resources.
Pizza Pie Thompson
3:27
Jeff, what position do you play?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
I have exclusively played behind the plate since I was like 12.
Not currently suiting up in an old man ball league -- too busy with a new house -- but I may go back to it next summer.
3:29
(If you can't tell, I'm trying for an answer-everything rapid-fire finish here. Couple more ...)

If Yankees are out of contention, will the trade Betances?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Nope
Seth
3:29
If Cubs are going to make a move, it's going to be to add a starting pitcher.  Who do you see as a 1) dream scenario and 2) realistic scenario as to who they get?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Agree.
3:30
1) Archer 2) JA Happ? Clayton Richard? no idea

McCuthen to Dodgers for Verdugo and Calhoun.  Who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
Dodgers
Jeff Luhnow
3:31
George Springer may have just broke his hand in Oakland, do I go after an OF bat now?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
Even if he did, have Fisher available and would probably get Springer back before postseason.
Chris

Why do teams consistently overpay for relievers at the deadline? To cover themselves in case there's a bullpen meltdown in September / posteseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
They don't overpay. It's a different market b/c the information is so much better. Know exactly where you sit in standings, how likely postseason is. And you are getting that reliever RIGHT NOW, so there's so much less uncertainty about how he's pitching. Your scouts have just watched him throw 20 times or whatever.

Is kinsler likely to be traded too this deadline? Not much talk on him being moved.
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
More likely than has been discussed thus far, I think. Was just looking at him for the next top 50 list.
Mike
3:34
Not that the Mets won't listen on Blevins (and let't not kid ourselves...they're clear sellers), but he's not a pending FA. He's signed for 2018 at $7mm.
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
Option, but agree it's worth noting.
Freddie Freeman
3:35
The point is Jeffery you are a Braves hater just admit it and we will move on.
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
I will fold under your withering cross examination. You win!
Brett Lawrie
3:35
Time for me to resurface?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
For sure.

Is the Mariners outfield legit?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
I kind of like it, yeah.
Jamie
3:36
Will Jae Gyun Hwang be up for the Giants in the next week?  If not, will he opt out?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
I think they bring him up. Why not give it a shot?
Justin Wilson
3:36
Will I bring around the same return that Mark Melancon got last year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
Ehhh ... not quite the same asset, just b/c Melancon was such a certified closer type and had such a clear record. BUT Wilson is a talented pitcher and should have strong value.
3:38
Okay folks, that'll do it for today.
Thanks as always! Trades are coming soon!
