Could argue for the same re the Cardinals ... which helps explain why there's suddenly this talk of Grichuk and Pham being available. Those are guys who could be moved in lateral arrangements of some kind, not clear deadline pieces.

Do the Reds hang on to Zack Cozart or is he packing his bags to go elsewhere?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
Already a weak market, and this ongoing leg injury issue  doesn't help at all. I guess it's conceivable he doesn't end up being moved, though I still feel like some team will feel it's better with him and will make it worth Cinci's while.

Think the Braves will move any of Albies, Acuna, Allard, Soroka, or Anderson in a trade for a controllable starter this winter? Would you?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
It would be kind of silly if they werent willing to move some of their top prospects if they really think they are ready to contend. That said, I can't say I'm still enthusiastic about following the storyline of the Braves' never-ending supposed hunt for controllable starters (and, on the other side, the marketing of Teheran).
2:55
I'm just not sure what pitchers will really be available. Archer, I suppose, is the obvious possibility. Maybe Fulmer, Stroman, Manaea? Those guys are going to come with huge asking prices, so get ready to pay up if you want 'em.

What does a Cargo contract look like in 2018?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
My guess: one-year make-good deal.

If the Dodgers went after darvish and the rangers decide to trade him, would they have to give up a top 100 prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Just due to supply and demand, I'd think so. I mean, if a rental Chapman can draw an elite prospect, then why wouldn't Darvish? He has more upside impact potential than any reliever.

If Gray isn't dealt how shocked will you be?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
I would be very surprised at this point. Think the timing is right for a deal.

Indians more likely to do something big and crazy (i.e. Ubaldo from a few years ago) or mimimal (i.e. Guyer last year)?  Antonetti and Co have been awfully quiet!
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
They might see some opportunities to wait for things to shake out and make their moves at good value. Not hard to imagine a useful utility guy, quality bat, solid lefty reliever, perhaps even a useful starter all sort of falling through the cracks.

Many fans in Milwaukee want Stearns to trade for this season, but in all honesty no one, even Brewer management could have expected them to be good. Do you think they make moves to appease the fan base or do they stay the course?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Doesn't matter to me so much what they expected. It kinda bugs me to read things suggesting that their anticipated timeline entering the season should really drive the decisionmaking at all. Fact is, things change. They are surely evaluating new info as it comes in -- not just as it relates to their anticipated win total this year, but as it relates to their contention horizon.
3:04
Point being: there's no reason at all the Brewers can't make a few calculated additions of rental players (as they already did with Swarzak). And they absolutely should value the next two  months in weighing trades for controllable starters, say.
3:05
They should also remain realistic -- hence, no Torres-for-Chapman type deals -- but it would be pretty silly to just decide it's too soon to try to win when you're in the hunt for the division this late.

Do the reds make any moves? Storen? Iglesias? Cozart?
Jeffrey Todd

Yes, no, maybe

Do the rangers trade Lucroy?

Yes

Is there any interest in Yonder Alonso outside of the Yankees?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Yes, but probably not a ton, and there are other lefty bats out there too.

We made a great move last night--- Who's next, Howie Kendrick?

Yes

Dodgers will pay less for Lynn that Yu. Same impact if you ask me. Agree?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Not remotely. Don't see them having much interest in Lynn. His results have been pretty good, but the peripherals ain't and he's nowhere near the pitcher Darvish is.

Are the Dbacks feeling better about the Shelby Miller trade?
Jeffrey Todd

Ender Inciarte. No.
(Also there's still no reason to think Swanson won't be a quality MLB player.)

Do you think giants trade guys like Kontos or Hundley? Seems like not too much value there could they target more lottery ticket type prospects like the young pitcher from the Nunez trade?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Yeah I think they'll be willing to deal those players if they are offered anything worthwhile. Though Kontos is cheap and controllable.

What is stopping the Mets from selling off everything they can?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Middling demand for all but Reed

Junior Fernandez gets pulled from a game last night and Jedd Gyorko having his second day off in 3 days for the Cards, something happening?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
I understand the feeling one gets when there are multiple little signals that could add up to something big. There are definitely a few curious hints here and there in STL. But anything involving Gyorko would have to be pretty danged interesting ... so much so that even guessing at it would be sort of dangerous. In all likelihood, nothing truly monumental will happen on that roster.
