Just clearly the best eight teams in baseball, and by a fair sight. 3 100+ game winners. Etc.
Should be fun.

Phil’s have no money on the books? Should they take Stanton?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
They are the best-positioned team. Can easily take the risk. Makes some sense to add a big star. And like the Cards, as mentioned above, they have some sort of surplus younger guys they could send in the deal to make it look good for Miami. (MIA is going to want cheap and non-awful players that can fill out the roster and be sold to fans.)

Why is everyone so excited about trading for Stanton, he will opt out asap and you can sign him as a FA w/o dishing out out a ton of prospects
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
The opt-out is a factor. But I don't think he'll cost a huge amount in prospects. And I still think odds are he won't opt out.

2:54
Will the mets get either Josh or the Moose to replace David Wright??????
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Trade for Donaldson? Thats just totally unrealistic, best I can figure. Moose signing is only slightly more plausible, but only by degrees -- still just a very, very low-likelihood move. He's also not a Sandy type of hitter.

In Dave Cameron's most recent chat, he indicated that he believed that Coppella had not done a good job with the Braves due to the major league product and failure to manage fan expectations.  Though I agree with fan expectations part, I was really surprised to hear him flatly say that he wasn't doing a good job building the team and thought this was a take I had not seen prior to his resignation.  As a fan, it seemed the FO was drafting well and have gotten somewhat unlucky on the miss rate/failure to reach/approach ceilings of the the first wave of prospects.  Am I just a homer or is Dave maybe being a bit harsh?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
A lot to tackle here, but ... there were hits and misses. The Olivera trade was a terrible failure. The Simmons trade was questionable at the time and seems fairly regrettable now, even if there's cause to have some optimism for Newcomb. Some of the other first wave of pitching talent really hasn't worked out, though it's not like they required huge pieces to get.
I never really understood Markakis. Team's approach last winter was confusing for me.
2:59
But if Ender, Dansby, Albies, Acuna, et al work out, and enough of the pitchers pan out, etc ... then it could still be a totally successful rebuild. Was an open question for me.

What's the next move for the White Sox? Shop Abreu and Avi? and who do you think would be interested in  them?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Shop them? Yes, for sure. Have to. Not enough remaining control to just put a big price tag out there. But I'm still not sure either will have enough demand to be moved this winter, especially Avi. I do think it may be the time to go on Abreu. There may be a glut of power available, but he has been pretty darn good, seems like a solid clubhouse type, isn't that old, and can be had for just a two-year commitment (even if his arb price will be steep).
Avi they may just want to hold in case he keeps playing this well and boosts his value.
3:01
Crap I'm 45 minutes behind in the queue ... going to try to catch up.

Do you think Jonathan Villar starts at 2nd for the Brewers next season, or do they bring someone in?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Think they'll have options to add another player. Walker is one of several quality vets on the open market or potentially available via trade. I'd see Villar as a utility guy for now.

3:03
Odds that the Angels or Mets overpay or give a multiple year contract to an aging Jose Bautista?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
I could see the Mets going after him on a cheaper one-year deal. Super plate discipline guy and they need to roll the dice. Conforto a risk. Not sure I see as much of a fit with the Angels. Don't see any team offering multiple years.
Zac
3:04
If the Nats really think next year is their last year with Harper...should they consider replacing Werth with JD Martines or Justin Upton?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
They could use the open corner spot to go big, but I'm just not sure that'll make much sense. They can platoon Taylor and Goodwin in center and bump Eaton to the corner. I still think if anything, it's more likely the big spending could occur in the rotation. Maybe lesser but still big $ to pen or catcher.

Is Khris Davis the Big bat that St. Louis is looking for?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Not a very well-rounded hitter and they have like 8 plausible OFers already. Not seeing it.
AJ

Does Welington Castillo opt out this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
He should, yeah.

Tommy Pham had an exceptional season and is under team control again next year.  Do you see the Cards offering him a contract for '18 and through his arbitration years, or will they keep him on the cheap?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Also somewhat older and still not arb-eligible. And those deals can bite a bit -- can't do them with everyone. Not sure there's really enough upside to it in this case. Just let him play and (hopefully) enjoy the production for now, probably.

Hello, enjoy these chats.

Thanks! Did I use that phrase, "realistically speaking"?  I probably did.

If Donaldson gets traded what sort of return should we expect?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Name your price. I mean, it can't hurt to see what teams will give. It would be significant.
Ian Desmond
3:11
Am I likely to bounce back next year?  Or am I the worst investment the Rockies made since Denny Neagle?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
It never made sense to me. Desmond is better than this, but he's also a guy who doesn't always keep his form throughout the year. I don't think the deal will deliver value to the team, but I also think he'll be a useful player, though. This kind of thing happens. Heck, look at Parra.

The Brewers payroll is still so very low. Considering this, and that  they are suddenly contending, would Yu Darvish be a remote possibility?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Man, I dont know. Perhaps. I'd still be a bit surprised if they just go that big -- and do so on a somewhat health-risky starter. But with so much young/cheap talent, I suppose they could afford to do something like that.
3:14
Whoof, Eduardo Nunez just busted his knee. That sucks.

What would an Aaron Judge extension look like? Or should the Yanks wait to see if he regresses first?
