Can I be an every 2B with Angels? I had a good year last year
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
He really wasn't that productive at all with the bat in limited time. I'd sure hope for more.
Ryan
2:42
Opinions on the "win" stat for pitchers?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Sure, but first let's debate the merits of the telegraph as a means of communication.
Brandon
2:42
Do you believe the Brewers will make a play for someone like Yu Darvish, or settle for a mid-tier starter like Alex Cobb?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Could be likelier they pursue trade options.
Tom
2:43
Can the Braves pry Donaldson away from the Jays and what would it take if so?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
No and that would be foolish for a team in this position. One more year til FA for JD.
Cliff Lee's Wife
2:44
Did Cliff ever officially retire? He's done though, right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Not sure if it was ever official, but he never got that surgery and never tried to pitch again, so ... yeah, he's done.
Hunky Dory
2:45
Could the Giants look to salary-dump Span and Pence as part of their trades for an OF (Stanton?  Avi Garcia?) in much the same way as the Yankees jettisoned Clippard while acquiring Robertson?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Sure, but that is still going to cost them in some way.
Heyward
2:46
How bad is the Heyward contract?  Any chance he opts out?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
Well, at least he is still young and useful. But it is way under water and I can't see how he'd end up opting out barring a monster season.
2:47
Remember he has the two opt-out chances.
G-MAN
2:47
Would Martin Prado be a good target for the Braves?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Well, he's injured, fairly old, fairly expensive, and hasn't been all that great lately when healthy. So ... he's available. At the right price it could make sense. Marlins will be motivated to sell him, but at the same time they'll have reason to wait and hope he can boost his value first.
Owen
2:48
Do the mariners pursue an ace level starter this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Dipoto has really downplayed how much change he anticipates making. Seems pretty unlikely.
2:49
Hang on one sec ... be right back!
2:50
Neighbor kids want to play with my kid.
My kid not here.
You know the next question: "WHY?"
But I did just read a really great line somewhere about how that's actually a question us adults ought to ask quite a bit more.
Anyway ... back at it.
Jeremy
2:51
What is a Manny Machado return looking like?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
Well, you'd be auctioning one year of one of the best players in baseball. (Plus a little inside advantage, potentially, on signing him longer-term.)
That would be quite valuable. Not really something I'm going to just guess at, but there'd be wide interest.
Donny
2:52
I'm certainly hoping Victor Martinez can get healthy and return to form, but let's say, for discussion sake, he doesn't and he's forced to retire.  What happens to his salary?  Are the Tigers still on the hook?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Depends how it happens -- voluntary? medically forced (a la Fielder) -- and whether there's insurance.
2:53
Presumably he won't walk away from the money, but he could keep it without playing if (like Prince) he was deemed unable to play. In that case, team owes it unless insurance kicks in. But I dont believe they have any policy.
Jed & Theo
2:54
Chances Otani comes to the North Side?  Stanton?  Harper in 19?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Just like you should turn a wary eye toward those who suggest they know who would/wouldn't be a good manager -- unless they can provide evidence -- you should be skeptical of anyone who claims to have an idea where Otani is likely to end up.
Jeff Bridich
2:56
Jeff Hoffman, Raimel Tapia and Ian Desmond (to offset some cash) for Stanton... who hangs up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Marlins would have to consider that. I don't think Rockies can afford it.
Cookie Monster
2:57
Great job on the offseason outlook for the Giants! You guys do a great job
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Thanks, I guess, but I didn't write that one. Mark Polishuk did.
In the future please limit your praise to me. Thanks.
2:58
(I kid. The outlooks are fun but a lot of work. Mark did well there.)
David Wright

With a healthy pitching staff and Michael Conforto, would additions of Todd Frazier, Pat Neshek and Andrew Cashner put the Mets over in 2018?
