I mean, maybe, but just note how many assumptions you are baking in there. Including about these hypothetical FA additions. And others, including how Rosario holds up, what they get from Dom Smith, whether the catching works ...
Lucas Duda
3:00
What kind of deal am I looking at?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
I have not really drilled down on that yet, but I am really going to b/c I have always been a bit mystified by Duda's rep. The guy has mostly hit quite a bit. But there are other interesting hitters that perhaps are ahead of him (Alonso, LoMo, Santana in addition to the higher-end names). Could be quite some value there.

If you had your choice of any starting pitcher for an elimination game, it would be ...?

If you had your choice of any closer to protect a one run lead in the 9th, it would be ... ?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Right now it'd be Kenley ... this looks good for the Dodgers, doesn't it? Ha
Me
3:04
I’ve submitted a lot of questions, but they never get answered. So I’m done.
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Listen, Me, I'm sorry. Legitimately, though, there are thousands of questions in each chat. It's all a roll of the dice as to whether I even see one of yours. I do my best.
3:05
But look -- I just did notice one!
Perhaps not the one you preferred, alas.
But you aren't here anymore, so why am I even still talking to you, Me?
Mariners fan

What are the chances of Marcell Ozuna to the Mariners?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Not seeing a real fit there.

With Adam Eaton returning next year what do you think happens with the Nats outfield?  Taylor in Center, Eaton left, Harper Right?  Any chance Werth resigns as a bench/vet presence?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
You have it right. Goodwin platoon option in CF. Robles gets more seasoning to start the year and could come up again mid-season.
3:07
(No on Werth.)
Judge Judy
3:07
Should cashman start negotiations for a Judge extension now? What would be a realistic number?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Well, there are no real precedents to go by. So it'd mostly be a matter of negotiating to something both sides feel comfortable with. He could be a massive arb earner. But there's still plenty of risk, given his swing-and-miss and size. It's basically impossible to give a number. And very hard to assess yay or nay without one.
But sure, GMs should always be thinking of these kinds of opportunities with good players.
Yanks, of course, have added flexibility not to overcommit too soon.
Concerned White Sox

Any specific transactions you can see as being likely for the White Sox this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Sign a dozen veteran relievers to minor-league deals.

Re. Giants offseason outlook: Mark doesn't have Sam Dyson listed as a non-tender candidate despite his 6.09 ERA, 5.6 K/9, and 4.6MM projected salary. You agree?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Well, I get that he is a candidate, in theory, but all indications are the Giants have him penciled in. He was obviously much better upon landing in SF, though still far from his prior levels.

With recent investigations and penalties regarding international signing violations do you think the league won't carefully monitor the situation to make sure no one offers handshake extension deal to Otani?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
I dont know what they can or should do, with regard to international stuff generally or Otani in particular. I will say this, though: there's an element of the absurd -- the same kind of thing with NCAA recruiting -- in setting up a system that encourages wild west behavior and then getting all up in arms when you catch someone in the act.
3:14
Perhaps MLB understands this and is trying to improve. But it seems the focus has mostly been on squeezing youngsters out of money.

Go hassle your dad. And GET OFF MY LAWN.

You pick Kershaw over a guy that told the entire roster to climb on my back in 2014 in the WS to lead them to a title over me?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Are you suggesting that things that happened in small samples three years ago should dictate decisionmaking today?
I mean, go for it. But I don't share that thinking.

Is Greg Holland really likely to get Melancon money as some have suggested?  He was pretty bad except for the first 2 or 3 months of the season.  Any chance he takes a QO and tries to position himself for a better deal if he can put together a full good season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
I think he's going back to the market. Boras will say he tired in his first year back from TJ. But I don't think he gets Melancon money, no. I'm more in the 3/36-42 type of range I think.
Schwarber's Lead Glove

With Lackey and Arrieta gone (most likely) would the Cubs be wiser to invest in Yu Darvish or into Cobb and Lynn?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
If they are willing to pay Darvish they could just bring back Arrieta, b/c I think he'll get less. Not sure I see the Cubs on either Cobb or Lynn ... maybe Cobb, since I seem to recall there being relatively recent interest. May be a situation where they work hard on the trade market, but ultimately consider a one-year guy and Montgomery.
Hunky Dory

Idea: White Sox sign, let's say, Bryan Shaw to close for them.  3/$42.  Then, in July, they trade him and eat all $42.  That's not much money to them, and creates a valuable asset that should deliver as much or more than Kahnle/Robertson.  Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
I am not following. Firstly, that'd be a huge overpay for Shaw. Secondly, for the same reason, he's not very likely to be as sought-after as Kahnle (who was also very cheap) or Robertson.
