Jeffrey's Grandma

Jeffrey, you are a precious young man. It is so wonderful that you take time out of your busy day to speak with so many lonely baseball fans.  You bring joy to the world (at least to the baseball hotstove rumor world)
Jeffrey Todd

SEE MOM I TOLD YOU

How can you say I have a so-so bat when I hit 308 last year and my lifetime average is 293. It was on this website where your writers labeled me as below average ! I will send it to you !
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Batting average does not account for all of a hitter's value.
Please do send it.

I guess you don't like Red Sox questions

Which team under 500 in 2017, has the best chance to be in playoffs next year with a smart offseason.
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Angels ... Jays ... Pirates would be my picks as likeliest

Is anyone sick of all the MLB tweets this week hyping the BBWA awards?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Honestly I pay very little attention to them.
CJ
3:21
Being the baseball expert you are, I trust your judgement on this. Do you see the Reds trading Mesoraco this off season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
See? This is how you get a question answered.
Allow me to grace you with my wisdom.
3:22
No, I don't.
Ha.
In seriousness .... I think they have to give him some time to try to bounce back and get healthy. Who is even going to take a decent chunk of the contract at this point?
Some people suck
3:23
I don't know why this guy keeps trolling you. I'm glad you find it entertaining, at least, and don't have a thin skin about it. Thanks for doing these chats -- really great stuff!
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Hey thanks!
3:24
If you're not being trolled at least a little bit, you're not on the internet, man! It's all in good fun from where I sit.

Todd Frazier here, why am I not hearing my name in any rumors?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Take that note I dropped above to heart ... there's chatter on Frazier going on where it counts, in front offices and with his agent. Maybe it's just that reporters aren't as fascinated by his FA case or that nobody has come up with a reason to push his situation out publicly, but he's going to be an important part of the picture this winter.

Guess I should say Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours ! Any plans for Black Friday shopping ?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Likewise to you, sir. But I prefer to opt outside rather than partaking in the holiday shopping and recommend you do the same (for at least part of the day).
3:28
(Yes, REI is a big corporatey thing too, but it's still good advice: https://www.rei.com/opt-outside)
Plus "opt out ... side" is sort of a hot stove pun.

Would Andrus have much of a market?  Seems like his offensive rebound is genuine.  It'd give the Rangers financial flexibility and answers the Profar question...
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
Yes,  he would. But I don't see TEX doing it.

Tough room, J-Todd.  Is it me or could an elite defensive CF (Billy Hamilton?) and Bum / Cueto health make the Giants a .500 + team again?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
They need more than just that. Also need bouncebacks from other guys. Remember, they had an infield full of 4-5 WAR players at one point. All but Duffy are still there, but they just haven't been as effective. And Span/Pence are old. And the rotation has had other slips.
We know the upside of each of these players, but they need to move back toward it. Worth remembering, too, that SFG wasn't cruising with 100+ regular season wins even in the WS years.

Any thoughts on Jim Crane's comments (in the NY Post) about being one of the few teams than can afford Stanton?  Are the Astros seriously in pursuit? Why pay Stanton when you can Pay Altuve and Correa?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
I have not seen that, but taking it at face value from what you said ... I guess it's interesting mostly b/c it suggests he's willing to commit some serious cash to a single player. I tend not to think that getting Stanton makes a ton of sense, in part b/c of their own extension candidates, but that still has to be an exciting thing to hear if you're an Astros fan.

Any chance the Tigers release Victor?
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
Phillies never released Ryan Howard. And it's still conceivable he could hit again and save them money. I expect he'll finish out the contract or negotiate some kind of buyout if he can't get healthy. But I think it'll be done in an orderly and respectful way -- don't think he'll just turn up on the DFA wire one day.

How surprised were you at the return Oakland got for Healy? Seems awfully low for a guy with 5+ years of control still
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
Tough market for defensively limited sluggers. And they obviously decided to move him and then shopped him around ... control is great, but for players that just aren't valued that highly by front offices, it isn't the end-all.
Alex Anthopoulos
3:36
Which AL teams can you realistically see taking Matt Kemp off my hands? Or is it going to be Markakis?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
It's not inconceivable but I don't see a club taking on a lot of money.
MT

Why isn't Ozuna getting more interest?  He seems like a much less expensive option without the bloated contract of Stanton.
