Does anyone want Mark Trumbo? He's a good first baseman and would do great for a team that needs one, if the Orioles didn't ask for much in return.
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Really not worth his salary ... look at how many other solid sluggers are out there in FA.
Joel
2:58
% chance the twins get a frontline starter and mid rotation starter in FA?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Both? Very low. Just one? I'd say they are about as likely as any other team to land one of the top 4 starters.

What teams whould u consider are 100% in rebuilding mode
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
As of right this moment ...
3:00
Tigers, White Sox, Padres, likely Marlins, maybe Reds
We dont yet quite know how all these teams see themselves. Even the Padres could decide they are in more of an emerging situation (as, say, the Braves and Phillies seem to) and change their behavior.
Royals could get drastic -- remember, this time last year we werent even quite certain what the Tigers and White Sox would do.
3:01
Reds, I think, arguably are more in the emerging camp.

If the Reds pull a sell high on Scooter Gennett as they did with Dan Straily, what would they be able to bring back?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Well, he's still a platoon player, so I'm not sure they would stand to draw a huge return ... esp with so many other options at second.
Of course, I thought much the same re Straily and that turned out great.

You're also the only person I've ever seen that actually comments on your own articles. How sad and pathetic an existence you must lead.......
Jeffrey Todd

Bahaha I love this guy
I am working anyway, why not?
3:04
What's hilarious is that you think I'm the type that sits around on the internet all day in my parents' basement, when in fact I lead a very, very active life outside of the time I'm working.
But hey, I realize that most people probably don't really know what this job really entails from an everyday perspective.

Will we see a repeat from the padres in the rule 5 draft? Any other rebuilding teams follow that plan?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Ehhh that's probably too aggressive this time around and for other orgs. The Tigers, say, are already talking about how hard their 40-man decisions are going to be without considering the R5. And other orgs may feel more compelled to put a palatable product on the field.

Thoughts on Pedro Severino? Is he ready to play 2-3 days per week at the major league level?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
At this point there's not much reason to think he's going to do much with the bat, but it's not like most teams don't have marginal hitters as their reserve catchers (including the guy he'd replace, Lobaton). Trouble is ... you'd feel a lot better about it if the #1 guy was taking more of the time and worthy of doing so.
I think the Nats should go after a quality second backstop - Avila for example.
Or at least make a game effort to pry Realmuto loose.
3:08
"And/or" I should say.

What about a Russell + Schwarber + Hatch + Zagunis deal for Archer + Colome?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Archer and Colome will cost more than that.
3:09
I don't think Russell is the best headliner the Rays can get for Archer alone ... though depends how willing they are to take high-level prospects vs established MLB players.

It's upsetting to me when teams like the Marlins or other teams like that can't keep their homegrown talent because of these enormous contracts. There needs to be some sort of salary cap sometime soon or it's just going to become so outlandish that one player is going to take up the whole payroll
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
That's not true. The market is set up through collective bargaining and the game is healthy. Owners are making plenty of profit. I can't see  much cause for tamping down player salaries and preventing player movement ... if you have concern about a given tteam/player situation, make your feelings clear to ownership and be willing to back it up with your wallet.

Any potential trade targets for the Astros from a SP perspective, especially in light of Keuchel being a FA next year and the struggles ground ball pitchers have traditionally had in their 30s?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I don't think they have to line up a replacement right now.
3:13
Can cross that bridge when they get there. But SP should be on their list. They can be fairly opportunistic, much like Nationals in that they really aren't losing any core pieces.

I have read that the Pads are receiving inquiries on Spangy, Solarte and Asuaje. They all seem so marginal - do you think there is any truth to the buzz?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
I doubt that teams are jamming the phone lines for that trio, but all have their appeal. It makes sense that teams are asking about them since they'd all be potential alternatives to other, more obviously available players.
3:16
I do think that reported information always warrants a reality check. Why was it told to the reporter? What about situations that you can draw inferences about even if they aren't reported on so explicitly? Have to read between the lines.

Well I got trashed for supposedly ragging on Murph in a recent mention on the site, so I guess I'm balancing it out.

How much did the Tigers have to pay the gold glove committy to pick Dozier over Kinsler?
