They'll get bullpen help for sure, and whether or not they push too heavily into the SP market depends on asking prices.  The D'Backs don't have a particularly deep farm system, nor to they have much extra payroll space.  Those twin factors will make it tough for the Snakes to win a bidding war for a front-of-the-rotation type

As noted, the Jays want to win in 2027.  Moving Varland would make little sense, as he has quickly become the anchor of their bullpen.

De Paula and Quintaro are the Dodgers' untouchables, as per a report from the Athletic earlier today.  Hartshorn doesn't seem "not" available, I guess, but it'd take a lot for the Cubs to move him.

This is the only way I could see Chicago dipping too deeply into its prospect cache.  They're not going to go overboard to make 2026 an all-in year, as that could easily backfire and undo the progress made in the rebuild.

How serious do you believe the Reds are about shopping Hunter Greene, and wouldn't he be a more economical use of prospect capital if you're the Dodgers as opposed to a rental like Skubal?

My guess is that Cincinnati is "open to offers" just in case someone offers them the moon and stars, but it would take a lot to actually get Greene dealt.  It should be noted that GMs take this approach to most players, as just out of due diligence, there aren't many true entirely untouchable players out there.

Greene is already making a hefty salary and he has a notable injury history.  Other teams may view him as riskier than a shorter-term splurge on Skubal.

Undoubtedly they're involved, so it's a question of whether they are willing or able to outbid the market.  My guess is Tampa is less likely a contender just because the Rays rarely make big splurges for rental players.  Even accounting for Skubal as a special case, the Rays would surely prefer someone with longer-term control.

The slump is coming at an awful time, but it's worth noting that Seattle still isn't far back in the standings.  (And, they won today.). The M's have so much invested in 2026 and they're not going to start selling wholesale, even if they lose tomorrow.
Kirby is tomorrow's scheduled starter, so his status will be particularly interesting to watch

Look no further, the Braves just traded for Lane Thomas and Bailey Falter.

"One of these years" like in 2021 when they won the World Series, because AA wouldn't give up on a team that just lost Acuna for the year?  Accusing Anthopoulos, of all executives, of not being aggressive enough is just not accurate.
As for Skubal, don't count Atlanta out, but their farm system isn't the deepest.

I'd think it's very unlikely.  But, since Boston/NY/Tampa all need catchers, it behooves the Orioles to talk to the division rivals perhaps at least as leverage in boosting offers from non-AL East teams.

And, frankly, I doubt Rutschman is getting dealt at the deadline.  These talks might be more groundwork for an offseason trade than anything that might happen in the next two days.

Is hazen and torey gone after this year? Most of the free agent contracts or extensions haven’t panned out. We were hopeful they would build off of the WS run but have been disappointing to say the least.

If the playoffs started today, the Diamondbacks are a wild card team.  More importantly, they seem to be trending up whereas a lot of other NL wild card contenders are in ruts.  Fair to be disappointed by the near-misses in 2024-25, but a lot of clubs would love to be in Arizona's shoes right now.

Lovullo is only under contract through the end of this year, fwiw, but another extension is likely waiting if the Snakes make the playoffs

I know that he won’t be a Yankee for a multitude of reasons but just to gauge how the other teams currently view their system, would a trade of Will Warren, Elmer Rodriguez, Carlos Lagrange, Dax Kilby, and Spencer Jones be enough for Skubal?

If that's the offer, Skubal will be in the pinstripes in no time.  But, there's no chance New York more or less cleans out its farm system (save Lombard) for a rental player.

Neto is the likeliest of the three to remain.  Realistically, I can see Anaheim moving one of the two pitchers, but probably not both unless Mozeliak has convinced Moreno that a rebuild is the best route.

Probably too high for a rental player, though perhaps the Cubs would make Hartshorn the headliner of a trade package for Mize and something else (Jansen or Finnegan?)
