Valdez's 4.36 SIERA is notably higher than his 3.66 SIERA in 2025, and his BABIPs are nearly identical.  So, his dropoff isn't solely due to the bad luck of a groundball pitcher working in front of a mediocre Detroit defense.

Valdez is allowing less contact than in 2025 but his strikeout rate and whiff rates have cratered.  His two best pitches are also not performing nearly as well as usual, and his curve is even a below-average pitch, in Statcast's eyes.

All in all, it's not what you want to see in the first year of a three-year contract.  Valdez can opt out after 2027 but another season like this probably doesn't help him going into what would be his age-34 season in 2028.

Got to have a Jo Adell question. Loving him with the Guards, but wondering what an extension with him might look like.

I don't see an extension happening.  The Guards generally extend players earlier in their careers, and Adell's numbers aren't so good that the team would make an exception now
