Red Sox
3:44
Will we ever do anything?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
Almost certainly, yeah.
Not like there's a history of being overly cautious, right? Dombrowski and Sox have money to work with. There'll be more to come.
Brian
3:45
Evan Longoria worth Christian Arroyo?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
As I told Steve and Tim when we were chatting yesterday ... why take on Longo at 5/60 and give up Arroyo when you could maybe sign Cain for a bit more and give up draft value?
Arroyo would still be a part of the near-term mix at third and/or they can add a veteran. Addresses needs more clearly without taking such a risk on an older guy who had a down year.
3:47
So it boils down to the Giants just believing that Longoria is still a really high-quality player, I guess. We shall see.

3:47
If Donaldson and Machado are a no, any chance the Cardinals spend big on Moustakas or Hosmer?
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
I just don't really see how either is such an upgrade for 2018. Cards already have good players. They don't need more good players that are more expensive, they need a few really really good players.
3:49
Gyorko/Carpenter plus Jose Martinez ... I just don't see Hoz/Moose making a big improvement there.
Scott Boras
3:50
"Of course J.D. Martinez has other suitors besides the Red Sox. Jeffrey, go ahead and tell them who else is interested..."
Jeffrey Todd
3:50
Well, yeah, there aren't any other teams that clearly need him and can afford to really pay up to get him. That's why Boston is still waiting patiently. But there is a point at which other orgs would get involved opportunistically or would move some other pieces around to make it work.

Is Darvish to the Twins just local crazy talk?
Jeffrey Todd
3:52
No, we think it makes some sense.
This isn't just "oh look, the Twins were pretty good last year! they could go crazy to push things over the top!"
3:53
It's that there's some connection to the FO and that the team's immediate and future payroll lines up for a possibility that might not generally make sense.
Cameron Maybin
3:53
Why doesn’t anybody mention me? I had a decent season last year, until I lost AB’s going to Houston. Think I’d be a good fit in San Francisco?
Jeffrey Todd
3:54
As a backup plan, sure. Giants or others don't want to lock in to a guy like Maybin and then end up having to pass up a good chance to get a better player. But he could ultimately fit there.
Jobu
3:55
The Orioles are bluffing in regards to not trading Machado, right? This seems like a ploy to squeeze a little more out of potential suitors.
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
I don't think so. They just won't move him if the offer isn't good enough.

3:56
Yelich to the Dodgers for package headlined by Alvarez and Verdugo? Would the Dodgers do it?
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
Dodgers have to be a favorite to get Yeli.
3:57
Aaaaand Yu Darvish himself just dropped a #fakenews tweet on the made-up report. Unreal, hats off to Yu.
Jake
3:57
Why haven't i signed a contract yet?
Jeffrey Todd
3:57
Boras dragging out Arrieta's market was the most predictable thing of the offseason.
Just a random commenter
3:59
I think there was one correct guess (kintzler) on your free agent prediction. Are you surprised?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Haven't checked, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have a pretty high whiff rate on team predictions.
4:00
Our $/year predictions have been pretty good, though, I think. Some inflation on relief market and such but we've nailed years on some guys that were tough to gauge.
4:01
Also I tend to feel good when we hear that an unusual team we mentioned did actually pursue a guy.

How can the Yankees carry 5 outfielders? Don’t they have to make some move here?
Jeffrey Todd
4:02
I mean, if you think of the DH as a rotating spot, it's not out of the question. But it does seem preferable to have another infield piece, esp if they end up rolling the dice on some younger guys.
4:03
Generally, I really think the Yankees are far from done. Frazier is such a sensible trade candidate to draw a starter. They could add short-term infielders or go bigger. Still loads of intrigue with that roster.

Can Mets Package Dom Smith, Montero, Lugo, prospect or two for Archer?
Jeffrey Todd
4:04
Dude, no.
Pad Squad
4:05
When might we see more trade activity out of the Padres? They have Brad Hand, Yangervis Solarte, and Chase Headley all firmly on the trading block.
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
Only Hand is going to drive any markets - other two are the types of guys that teams will check down to.
They are in a really good spot w/r/t Hand, though.

Why haven’t we taken on a bad contract + prospect for a low level prospect?  Kemp/Jacoby/etc
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
Expect they are exploring just such possibilities as we speak.

What do the Cubs do with Mike Montgomery? Obviously they like him in the role they had him in last year, but is he one of the assets they’d trade given his desire to start?
