I'd guess they are a little annoyed at that, given the extent to which they've tried to compile a team of people willing to give some flexibility. But does that force a trade? I don't know. Given the state of the rotation and pen, he really does fit in a swingman role.
4:09
Hard to just give him up, even if for equivalent value, when you want to have that piece at that price on your roster.

Anyone who has followed these chats knows there's only one answer to this: Vin Scully.
Can you imagine how classy Vin would be as a guest at your dining table? My goodness.

Do the royals rebound?
Jeffrey Todd

In 2018? Nope.

Why isn't Albert Almora Jr. being considered the full time CF next year, as well as the lead off hitter?  I feel like he's an elite defender with good contact/on base skills.  What are your thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
4:12
No reason to assume something like that coming into camp. If he earns the job over the course of the season he will get the playing time.

If they don't do anything more, how do you rate the Yankees' starting pitching?
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
It's probably fine but not that exciting. There's some downside in the current unit.
4:14
I mean, potential downside. Wouldn't expect it's a top unit.

Will the tigers trade shane greene??
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
No buzz about that at all. Imagine there'd be interest, of course, but probably not enough to make it worthwhile at this point. Hold and hope he increases his value.
Are you smoking today?

The longo trade also moved span and Longo is still a really good player. They were probably down on Arroyo. Cain would cost more, a pick and they would still have to move span
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
It only "moved" Span in that it went to offset the $. That does matter for luxury tax purposes, true, but there were other ways to manage that.
Is Longo still really good? Dunno, but Span out-hit him in 2017.

#orioles remain optimistic that Britton could be back by June. Even if July, they'll take it.
4:19
This still feels like a big risk to me. Especially after the elbow issues and performance downturn last year.

Plus the Rays took on some of Longorias contract! Span was a minus WAR player last year!
Jeffrey Todd
4:20
No reason to think Span can't be a better defender in the corner than he was in CF. I'm not saying he should've been used as a regular. But this isn't really the way to look at it, I don't think.
4:21
Arroyo may not pan out but he's a valuable piece - more valuable than a 2/5 draft pick in 2018. And they could've used Span's contract in a deal for someone like Chase Headley if they just needed to fill in at 3B with an average player without impacting luxury tax calc.
Again: really hinges on their analysis of Longoria. But he was not all that good last year.

I would like to know the prospect value in trade for Danny Duffy. In other words, what would a good package from any team look like that would help both the receiving team and the Royals moving forward.
Jeffrey Todd
4:23
Very hard to answer this sort of question, because prospects are valued differently by every team and we just can't know. Also depends if KC would target upside or guys they could play int he majors in the near-term. But I expect he would draw a significant amount of young talent in return.

You see the Rays trading Archer and Kiermaier now tearing the whole thing down and rebuilding?
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
I see them considering Archer deals but not necessarily trading him. And I don't think they are blowing everything up, no.

Almora and Montgomery for yelich? Too much or not enough for yelich?

Not enough

What other teams besides the Royals and Padres would be willing to pony up 15+ mil for Hosmer? It seems one or both can simply wait out the virtually non-existent market for him.
Jeffrey Todd
4:26
As ever, this is a game of Boras roulette. But I've never been high on Hosmer's market,, even after accounting for the fact that many people clearly think he's more valuable than his numbers.
4:27
Also he has never seemed likely to command a huge AAV -- his biggest earning potential is in years.

Longoria trade worse than the Shelby Miller trade?
Jeffrey Todd
4:28
Don't think they are comparable at all. Just b/c I'm not totally buying into it at first glance doesn't mean I think it's a laugher.
