Remember, Nats have some useful secondary pieces to dangle to Miami. Michael Taylor, Joe Ross, Pedro Severino, Erick Fedde.

When will Phil's sign Cobb?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
Don't really see a particularly compelling match there. And I think the Phils can afford to be pretty opportunistic in adding a SP. No need to chase the market.

2:30
What is take on the Levine rumor that the Cubs have interest in L. Cain?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
Sounded more like loose connection that they'd be willing to be a landing spot if his market doesn't come together.
Which ... yeah, as I noted above, you could probably say the same of a fair number of other orgs. Big difference between that and active pursuit.

2:32
Do you think the Orioles are actually going to sign any starting pitchers or are they going to try to fill out the staff with reclaimed minor leaguers and rule 5 draftees?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Remains to be seen. There'll probably be some kind of mix. But I wouldn't be too worried when, say, Miguel Gonzalez goes flying off the shelf.

Think Moose would take a two year deal at this point to avoid next years FA class and try again in 2020...if so 2 years at how much would get it done?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
You have to cash in when you can, if you can. There are some limited exceptions to that. And it isn't like he hasn't earned any money to this point in his career. Even if it means settling for less than you hoped, it's usually going to be preferable to take a nice multi-year deal to just straight up rolling the dice. And a 2-year deal is in some ways even riskier than a one-year. I guess perhaps there's some conceivable space for him to do something like a lite version of the Cespy 3-year deal?

will the Rockies give Blackmon an extension or let arbitration play out
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
I don't see them paying what it'll take to get him to forego the open market.

CJ Cron for Steven Wright?
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Get excited, baseball fans.
But no, can't see why the Sox would part with SP depth to do that.

Starlin to the brewers for broxton, Kyle wren and villar.
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Can't fathom why MIL would do this.

Do you see the Yankees trading Ellsbury (and paying a huge portion of his contract)?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Yes, but who wants it and why?
Jet-free Toad
2:38
Will the Marlins settle for the best offer they can get for Yelich? From what I've heard, their price is something nobody would pay.
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Expect they'll have a floor they won't go beneath, even if they can't get a deal done. That seems like an appropriate approach for a guy under contract for quite some time.
Also I still think they'll get good offers.

You are Dayton Moore. Who do you call to trade Duffy, Merrifield  or Herrera?  What would you expect to get back?
Jeffrey Todd
2:40
Herrera/Duffy/Merrifield in that offer should absolutely be marketed. Former kinda has to be dealt now or mid-season, right? Others, no rush, but the door should be open to a deal.
Mike
2:40
Do the Yankees need a MIF enough to move Frazier for Josh Harrison?
Jeffrey Todd
2:40
I don't see that. Harrison isn't really cheap. Nice player, but why give up that kind of asset when you could spend similar $ for a similarly useful player in FA?
Emerson
2:41
Do you have info on Julio Urias and his recovery?  I googled it and there's no recent updates since the surgery
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
There really hasn't been an update. I expect we'll hear more when camp opens and/or when he nears some milestones.
Steve
2:42
Are the Pirates going to start a total rebuild?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Don't think so. They have enough young MLB pieces that they can try to straddle the line.
Mjolnir
2:43
Does Eduardo Nunez make sense for the Yankees? If so, is the holdup because they'd only want him for 2018 while he'd like a longer-term deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Could see a match there, sure. But yeah, he's definitely looking for multiple years.
2:44
May be too costly given the line they are trying to walk.
Matt

Mets Trade an Outfielder with Bruce Back?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
I don't think so. I mean, I guess they could just decide Nimmo isn't a part of the vision and he could be gone. But how are they going to part with Lagares, esp for less than good value? Conforto is still a question mark, Cespedes is hurt a lot, and Lagares is still very useful as a RHH/speed/D complement to Bruce/Conforto. Plus, Bruce could still end up at first.

As a follow up to an answer earlier, how much of a "secondary" piece is Michael Taylor for the Nats? An extremely good defensive CF, with a .271/.320/.486 slash line, .806 OPS, 1.6 WAR, all in 118 games sounds like a player the Nats should be able to get something of good value for. What do you think they could land for him? Thanks.
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
He was very good last year and has a decent floor with some upside (and amazing physical tools). He's the Ian Desmond of CF, but with more strikeouts. Maybe that makes him the Danny Espinosa of CF? And I think that's the problem with his value. But he's very useful for the Nats, so they shouldn't just get rid of him ... at the same time, it's a possible area to upgrade, esp if he helps set another big addition in upgrade.

Phillies a mystery option for Darvish?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
On paper, sure, but no indication of that.

Should the Reds trade Scooter right now when his value is at his all time highest?
