Eh. The on-field productivity was up, but so is his cost. I think there's some possible trade value but not as much as you might hope.
He's unplayable against lefties and teams will bear in mind the past struggles.
Josh Donaldson
2:51
Does the changing landscape for 30+ free agents impact what Josh Donaldson can expect in free agency next year? Or is he in a different class?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
I'm not totally convinced it has changed. Guys like Cespedes and Upton have been paid recently, just to name a few. If JD has a typical season, teams are going to find it hard to resist the possibility of adding an MVP level player. Of course, they'll also bear in mind the age and health questions, as ever.
Really I do think that player aging curve type of knowledge is going to have an impact and is doing so already. But I'm less sure it'll really be evident at the highest reaches of FA.
2:53
Also it's just too soon to know how this year's market will turn out and then what it will mean going forward.

“Do you think I am crazy”. For thinking A’s have a shot at a wild card this year ?
Jeffrey Todd

Cray? No. But I wouldn't expect it by any stretch.

Hi this is a huge year for me my wife and I are expecting a baby is that the only thing I have to get excited for or can I also get excited for the ANGELS?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Pro tip: don't share this question with your wife.
2:55
Look, you don't deserve to get anything else to get excited for. Having kids is the greatest thing ever. And, yes, you were also gifted a very exciting Angels season. Best of all, you get these things TOGETHER, which means you get to be a responsible parent by lying on the couch, watching Angels games while your new son or daughter rests peacefully on you.
2:57
To combine my thoughts there, I highly recommend you just wait til the opportunity arises, then tell your wife "hey, I got this." Take the child off her hands, give her a break, and quietly retire to your couch position. She will find you sweetly cuddling your child and find it endearing.
Win-win-win ... unless/until the Halos go bust, I guess.

After The Pirates purge, can they win 60 games and draw 1.2 million fans? I think not
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
They won't be that bad even if they trade Cole and Cutch.
and Harrison.

what would a  year extension look like for Buxton, 1 year pre arb, 3 years arb,and 2 years of FA?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Frankly I just don't know that I see them lining up. He shouldn't be hugely expensive in arb. But he is young and talented enough to envision a big future payday. I don't know, I guess some such players have ended up with deals before -- could see some parallels with Polanco and Marte, for example -- but I feel like both sides will need a little more info first.

Honest opinion of our rebuilt bullpen?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Same as the old bullpen?
3:01
I mean, it mostly is. But it should be a good unit. It's just ... holy crap, that's a lotta dough to commit to the pen. And I don't think it's an elite relief group. Then again, of course, you can see the reasoning given that they are even more worried about spending big on the rotation and perhaps find it easier to get relievers to come to Coors.

What does your crystal ball say about Anthony Rendon's future?  Will Nats buy out his arb years?  Will they get an extension?  If they get an extension, is that it for Harper in DC?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Last thing I read on it gave vibes that perhaps Rendon would be happy to do a deal in a place he's comfortable. If he really is happy in DC, he seems like the type of low-key guy to do that. Maybe there's some added value there, though obviously he's going to cost.
3:03
Don't see why a Rendon deal would necessarily preclude Harper. It is adding to the overall risk, of course, but I think Harper is sort of a unique situation.  If anything, locking up Rendon might free them not to feel as compelled to do something wild to keep Bryce.

Nightengale keeps linking the Cards with Moose? Anything to it, and if so, why? I don't see him as a significant upgrade over present options.
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
I don't see it either.

If you are going to do a chat at least answer the questions...are u a politician avoiding answers?   The  question about likely (or best fitting) spots for Herrera/Duffy/Merrifield was only 1/2 answered.   You got somewhere else to be? :)
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
I might have missed it. Also try my best not to give 300 word answers to keep things snappy. (Usually fail.)
Those guys all have pretty wide possible markets and they haven't developed yet via public reports, so ... shrug.

Jeffrey, is the free agency still slow?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
It is, Hugh. It is.

Cesar Hernandez to Yankees make sense - they have the prospects to make it happen.   Say, Torreyes and Frazier?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Could see Yankees having interest there ... Frazier wouldn't be the best fit given that Philly already has a bit of a build-up of good but not proven corner OF prospects for one spot. Also, now that Galvis is gone Cesar is the one veteran left in the 4/5/6 portion of the infield.

What can you guys do to stop the “I made soooo mich money working on a laptop” posts in the comments?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
We try but the more restrictive you are with filters and such, the more likely we'll end up catching up legitimate comments. Balance best we can.
Really though why aren't you just clicking and making money the way they say? IT IS EASY MONEY. I stay at home myself and can tell you I earn ....
