I know it sucks, sorry. We'll keep trying.

There's a lot of "ifs" on the Giants but if they happen IE:rebound for Cueto, Bumgarner, Crawford, Belt, Melancon and Will Smith They could be great with even an okay outfield! Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Sounds like a lot of "ifs", is what I think.

3:13
Would there be mutual interest in a Salazar for Altherr swap?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Does make for kind of an interesting match between those two orgs. I'm not totally confident in how either team would view those guys to be giving a thumbs up or down here, but on paper you can see the possibility. So ... that's a well-conceived off-the-wall trade idea. Well done, Bob G.!
Key here being that Phils have O-Dub in CF and also have Nick Williams coming off a nice year. But who knows, maybe they prefer Altherr to Williams. Maybe Indians like Williams, or neither.
3:16
Not like these guys have clear and lengthy enough track records, is really my point.
*For me to give a strong opinion.

God I'm such a lawyer.

Why wouldn't the White Sox take on a contract (Ellsbury/Kemp) in order to gain prospects?  They have very little commitments and are several years from contending realistically.
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
I think they would. Might as well if they are going to drop decent coin for marginal pitchers, as they have been doing.
Bobby
3:17
Why is it that every time you guys post an article about a player changing agents, you leave out the former agent unless it's Boras?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
We leave out the prior agent unless it is of particular relevance to name them. We don't always mention Boras if he lost a guy.
3:19
Why? I'm not going to go into any long explanation, it's just ... those posts are mostly for industry reference, really. And it just doesn't matter all that much, so it isn't really worth over-publicizing that a certain agency lost a client, I guess.
3:20
Going to take a few more and then I have to bolt.
I just started taking karate classes with my daughter, have to get ready. (Get dressed and mentally ready and stretch so I don't tear a groin muscle when we do the splits.)
3:21
I can't believe I am taking karate, it's just very much not something I ever would have done, ha.

Are the Scott Boras’ of the world ruining baseball?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
In the popular conscience, at least, Scott Boras is the only Scott Boras of the world. And he probably is. So this reduces to the familiar question: is Boras ruining baseball?
The answer is no.
3:22
He is just doing a job, in an admittedly very public way. But he's always pushing for big money for clients and calling out teams, and the union side does need that to support its position. Not as if MLB orgs are incapable of dealing with the pressure.
Dave
3:22
You never really answered the Cole question. To the Astros or where?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
I just don't know. Astros seem to be one of the better landing spots but it hardly seems they are odds-on fav at this point.

3:23
Jeffrey, are the chat questions getting worse as the offseason has droned on?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Sorry, you have to phrase it as an answer and then I will respond with a question.
But no, our readers always bring it, I think.

The Braves bullpen cost them quite a few games last year. Why have they not went after a few relievers yet?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Actually, they have ... at least 2 maybe 3 new guys on 40-man? Not big-time names of course, but finding value in the pen is big business these days. They also have some young arms that may end up getting time in a relief role. And I'm sure they are not that interested in plunking down cash on relievers when they have basically no hope of catching the Nats this year.
3:26
Phillies have done those kinds of deals, but they have way higher payroll ceiling and way less committed to present/future roster. (Or they did, anyway.)

3:27
Feel like the Bruce deal was a good one for the Mets?  Should other teams maybe have been more interested at those rates?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
In terms of market value, it is dead-on what we predicted. So it's not a bargain for the team or any kind of failure for him, in my view.
In terms of roster fit ... you can see the rationale, but I'm still not sold.
3:29
I am honestly not sure I can really put a finger on why, so much as just observe that the roster seems to be basically the same as it was last year, but with Cespy one year older, Conforto hurt, Wright more clearly done for, way more uncertainty in pitching, less money left to spend, no Walker, etc.
Rosario is in there, but the catching situation is perhaps a little less hopeful. But it's just not a perfect spot for them, so moves aren't necessarily going to feel like slam dunks, I guess.

Yanks can wait to make any deals, no pressure at this point.
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Agree.

Thoughts on Hamels going forward?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Not a promising season but can't give up hope yet.

Addison Reed just makes too much sense to not happen, agreed?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Could say the same for others, so no. But that's a possible fit, yes.

What's the worst fan trade proposal you've seen, in the MLBTR comments or otherwise?
