Sorry for the late start. I'm not taking the blame for it this time. My computer just decided to take half an hour to boot up. Fun times!
Anyhow ... we'll get moving here in a few once the room fills up.

Do you think that if the Braves could sign JD at 6/150 they should do it?  Partner him up with Freddie for next few years and have all those pitchers come up as well as Acuna?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
If there was a bargain sitting out there, sure, take the risk. But 6/150 isn't a bargain. It's what you have to pay if there's competition and he's the final piece you need now.

I hear the Twins are still in on Yu, but the Cubs have to have the upper hand, correct?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Nobody knows. The teams may well not know. Darvish may not really even know.
2:25
Quite possibly there's still some effort going into getting final offers, etc. Heck we're still hearing about mystery teams.

Let me help you out early with an evergreen response: "I get thousands of questions in my inbox, so it's easy for your nineteen inquiries on Eric Hosmer to get lost."
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
I will adopt this statement, thank you.

Predictions on impact moves Brewers do?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
I think the interest they've shown in outfielders shows the primary goal is value, not filling a need, per se.
2:27
That makes it tough to predict. I still think at the end of the day they will do something to improve the rotation.
2:28
The fact that I've seen some reporters saying things like, "y'know the Brewers rotation was actually pretty good last year and may not need much" .... that actually makes me feel it's more likely they will do something there. True, it wasn't a bad staff, and maybe they really are optimistic about Nelson's health and the strides some young guys can make. But that's also some clear smoke blowing ... they could clearly stand to improve in the starting staff.

2:29
I'm really done signing people? Or am I being sly and opportunistic?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
I don't know that they are really trying to be all that sly. Don't think the Cards are done.
John
2:29
Hi and thanks.  What do you think Adam Eaton would have gotten if he'd been a free agent last year (before the injury)?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
Spitballing ... like 7/140?
BTW I think he's a good comp for Yelich as a trade chip. Not quite as good as Yeli, bit older, little less power/upside, but also a lot cheaper.
2:31
Not that comps really matter for trades, just gives some idea of market value I think.
JD Martinez
2:32
Where do I end up and on what kind of deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
Still say Red Sox. Reports have said he's sitting on a 5/125 offer. I'll guess he gets them to boost that up to like 6/140.
Adding a cheaper year isnt that bad for the team -- reasonable chance he's still a useful player down the line and it lowers the tax burden by dropping the AAV.
Missing Link
2:35
Do the Giants really believe that Austin No Action Jackson could hold down c.f. til Duggar is ready?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
The FO has stated pretty clearly they don't think AJax is anything close to an everyday CF. Just what that means for what the heck they are now going to go on to do ... shrug.
2:36
I mean, I guess it could mean they are just going to roll with Duggar with Jackson around to supplement. But they have said that they really don't intend to do that. Sabean says they are going to look at pre-arb guys. Has to be a lefty. But who are they going to get that is at all interest, unless they are really ponying up a lot in return?
2:37
I just don't know. Maybe like a Brian Goodwin type?
Connor
2:38
Could Moustakas make sense to someone like the Twins, given Sano's injury history, possible suspension, and likely DH time, or will they fill that hole with Escobar?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
That kind of scenario -- "oh man our expected guy at 3B may not really work out" -- isn't necessarily what's happening in Minny. But assuming it is ...  that's a sort of a fallback scenario for Moose.
2:39
It's hardly unprecedented. Fowler to Cubs. Ervin to Braves.
2:40
I would guess Moose at least gets a decent guarantee with an opt-out, though, rather than a straight one-year deal. But it does seem possible he will end up not finding a big, multi-year contract this winter -- more b/c of how the market has developed than b/c of the general slowdown.

Do I make an offer for Lucroy or make a run at Realmuto? I can't be going into this season with my current catching situation could I?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
Lucroy would on paper seem to be a good candidate for them to chase on a long-ish but lower AAV offer. But he has made really clear that he wants to play for a contender, so that'd take some convincing.
Realmuto makes sense for a lot of teams, of course, but would have to figure Oakland would be involved.
Indians
2:42
What do you think the Indians will do for right field? Is their a chance they go for JDM?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Sorry but that just seems wildly unrealistic given all indications out of Cleveland. I think it's likeliest they will mix and match with what they have and consider making a cheaper/targeted addition.
Could certainly imagine them adding another OF, esp a RHH that can play CF, but I'm guessing it's a platoon type. Return of Rajai???
JR
2:44
Hosmer is basically a Padre at this point, right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Wouldn't assume that just yet.

More entertaining: Turow's "One L" or the movie "The Paper Chase"
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Never did read Turow but the flick is a good one.
