Darvish at 5/125 or Cobb at 4/70. Better value?

Happ, Almora plus for archer?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
Have a hard time seeing why the Rays would do that, personally.
2:47
Nice players, young and cheap, but do they upgrade the TBR roster? Enough to warrant parting with four cheap years of Archer?
I mean both the near-term and long-term roster, given that they have Kiermaier inked long-term, have  some other controllable OFers still on hand, have some quality infield prospects, etc.
Rotation

who has the best starting rotation right now?

How's that for an exhaustive nomination process? "Think of teams that might have really good starters and list them."
2:52
Aww come on Astros are too easy to pick! Build in some regression, make some bold predictions!
2:53
Pretty solid statement here on Vladdy, for those on HOF cap watch ...

Arte Moreno on Vladimir Guerrero: "We are proud and privileged that he becomes the first player enshrined in Cooperstown wearing the Angels logo. He represented four quality organizations during his playing career and his induction is special for each.”

Playing conspiracy guy: Brewers let it be known they're after Arrieta and Darvish to get big boys (Cubs) to overspend and leave Milwaukee a shot at Cobb or Lynn for cheap. Legitimate thought or total paranoia?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
To an extent, I think teams all get into some markets and put out feelers at certain prices to make sure that great value opportunities don't slip through the cracks and to make sure their competitors have to pay full boat for the players they want. But I do think you have perhaps taken the analysis a few steps past the extent it really goes.

So... like... there's no chance Jason Heyward opts out after this year, right? Like, 40 homers doesn't even guarantee him 120 mil in next year's market
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Very hard to imagine after two straight rough seasons, yeah, even if he has like a 6 WAR effort.

In a situation for a trade for Manny Machado, are the Redsox more likely to trade Benintendi or Devers?
Jeffrey Todd

Hard no on both.

Would it really be a cheaper year? Or make the first 5 years cheaper? (in regards to JDM response)
Jeffrey Todd

Either way the tax hit goes down.

Hi, Jeff! Got any bold predictions for the rest of this offseason? The way free agency is going, seems like anything can happen.
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
At least one top ten guy has a long, dramatic holdout.
3:01
Not that bold, I know.
3:02
Would be fun if it is JDM and he is basically trying to get the Sox to negotiate against themselves, knowing the Boston media will be alllll over that story.

Neil Walker to the yankees 2/15 seem about right?

Would be a great price and very sensible target for NYY.

How do I get your career instead of my career?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
If you really want out, stop spending all your free cash, save and prepare for a new life, and start respecting your own time (don't just work to others' expectations and maximize the free time you have). Then be ready to take a plunge that feels very risky.
But you cannot have my particular job, sorry.

Grienke and $15 mil for wacha+ what? Am I dreaming that this would work?
Jeffrey Todd

Dreaming. Greinke is too old and expensive. Wacha has real value.

You missed the Mets!
Jeffrey Todd

Or did I?

Should I have included the Mets in the poll?

Yes, dude, you put the Rays in there (33.3% | 255 votes)

No, just too much health risk (66.7% | 511 votes)

I don’t get why people hate player opt outs. We have all read 101 articles on how large long-term contracts almost never work out. So what’s so bad about a player opt out? You get one or two seasons where the player opts out afterwards because they played better than what they were paid. It’s like playing the slots. The longer it goes, the worse it will be. Get out while you can.
