To some extent, yeah, it suggests there are alternatives. But it seems like that rumor has been persistently misrepresented. The JBJ element was just, "BOS would not do it," not "hey there could be a EE/JBJ deal still to be made."

Any chance JD takes the 3 year with opt outs type contract that Cespedes did? Maybe 3/$84MM?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
As I recall, Yo took 3/75 (+optout) instead of like 5/100 (deferred). If JDM is sitting on a straight 5/125, that's a way better offer. Plus, it seems reasonable to think he can still get that number up a smidge if he indicates he's willing to sign for a little boost.

MLB teams should be able to trade draft choices don't you think
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Don't really see why not.
Mike Rizzo
3:04
Does anybody believe me when I say AJ Cole is my 5th starter and I'm not trading for JTR?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Not really. He didn't exactly say either of those things, either.
KC
3:05
I want to ask a question about the Orioles but I don't know where to start.
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
I want to answer one about the Orioles but would feel the same way. Glad this exchange worked out for us both!
Seriously, though ... just, nothing has changed yet, really. Except for Britton being hurt, but that has not seemed to dissuade them from trying to contend.
Buddy the elf.
3:07
But that way I don't make anymore money...
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
All of Japan would be singularly focused on the Yankees. And then after a few years you work out a sweetheart deal with NYC, which will do anything to get you back after having experienced life with only the Mets and an expansion team.
(Just ... ignore all of this. No more buddy the elf questions, ever.)

Nationals/Realmuto seems like a perfect match. Will the Marlins budge off their Robles price?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
I don't think they're holding out for Robles or bust. But not certain they'll end up matching up on price, either. It is a pretty compelling fit, though.
RizzO
3:09
Michael Taylor for Realmuto?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
As part of a package, sure.
SimplyAmazin
3:10
Duda goes where?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Not enough clarity at the top of the market to really venture a guess.
Fredbird
3:11
Do you think Logan Morrison is a good fit for the Cardinals?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Eh... then you've pushed Carpenter back into a position where you don't love his glove (according to the Cards' original justification for moving him, or so I seem to recall). Is that really worth it? If one of their other IF options was more capable of handling additional time at SS, helping to boost the depth there, I could see more of a super rotation. Or if they have a trade lined up for Wong, say. I just have a hard time seeing how it all works such that it's worth ponying up significant cash that otherwise could have gone to the pitching staff.
3:14
I'll have to run soon but will try to grab a few more.
Gary
3:15
Who turns down $125 million dollars?  Players are insane.
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
The offer is still on the table, it seems.
Sir Nerdlington
3:15
Don't understand the fury over Scott Boras.  He does an amazing job for his clients and most of us would rather see the players get paid than the billionaire owners and their entitled family.
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
I'm surprised more people don't at least see this angle to some degree.
HashtagBeatLAClothing
3:16
Seriously, Grant Brisbee, God or fraud?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Both, duh
3:17
MLBTR's twitter account follows Grant as well as Dayn Perry, not because they report news, really, but because Steve and I need the levity. I honor them both.
Jake G
3:18
A Boras sympathizer? Really?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Call me a realist. I don't sympathize, really, with anybody who owns/controls a baseball franchise or makes a few more or less millions as a free agent. Just see it for what it is: a business situation where they all have a right to negotiate. What I don't understand is approaching the situation with a perspective such as, "you're getting paid to play a kid's game!" and then just assuming that means they should take whatever they are given. It's an entertainment business. The entertainers deserve to bargain for a big slice of the pie. And they are legitimately talented and hard-working, generally.
Dayn Perry

Even I don't take my drivel seriously
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
I know people make up whatever handle they want, but I so badly want this to be you, Dayn.
Schwifty
3:22
Dyson to Pirates on 1 yr deal?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Don't see why he can't still get a 2-year guarantee.
Would you rather
3:23
Have Arrieta at 4/100 (like you predicted) or 3/90?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
Suspect most teams that'd be in on him would prefer 4/100 ... lowers the luxury tax and why not get a final year at $10MM more. Pretty good odds he'd be worth the spread.
Leo
3:24
Are you more concerned with the Yankees SP or 2b/3b situation?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
Neither, because they still have the chips to address any needs at the deadline.
Adam
3:25
Jeff, hard for me to sympathize much for either side when those slices of the pie come from charging $10 for a beer and $6 for a hot dog to a guy living paycheck to paycheck.  It'd be nice to see either side show an ounce of care about the fact that almost every player in the minor leagues essentially lives in poverty -- where's their slice of the pie?
