Guess I should technically have included other options on the "no" side, but I didn't have time to draw up a scientific poll.
Not Brad Peacock
2:41
When will Brad Peacock be sent to my favorite team? Also, which team is that?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Doubt the Astros feel much pressure to move him. In McHugh's case, the salary and the fact that he's a more established MLB starter kind of speak more in favor of a deal. He's being paid like a starter and probably expects to be one. But Peacock could be plenty valuable in the pen and would be a heck of a rotation insurance policy.
2:43
That said, he might be an interesting guy to shop in some circumstances ... might he be a meaningful part of a deal for JT Realmuto, for instance?

What’s fair market value for Jake Odorizzi? Valuations seem to be all over the place
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
We have some pretty good market comps to reference. That doesn't mean as much in a trade scenario, but ... he's in a pretty similar spot to what Smyly was in last winter. And obviously there's less value in Odorizzi than there was for Gerrit Cole. All of those guys had manageable but not free salaries with one more arb year to go.

Why do I seem to trust my young talent more than proven veterans? Why do I always come up short in putting a playoff product on the field?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Wait what???
Talk about first world problems, man. When's the last time the Cards didn't have a winning record?

Think Lucas Duda might be available on a minor league deal? Have heard zippo about him all off-season and he had a respectable 116 OPS+ last year. Not the worst 1B in the world, either.
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Can't see how he doesn't end up with a MLB deal. The guy has long been an above-average hitter, isn't that old, hits from the left side.

This media attention is crazy, will it be like this all year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Probably, yeah. If he's awesome it will go up. If he is terrible, same. Maybe if he's just sort of good but not great folks will lose interest?
Ted
2:53
Seems foolish for the Royals to pursue Hosmer on a 7-8 year deal. What do you think?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
I mostly feel that way. Especially when they already have Alex Gordon on the books. He was a luxury signing and that makes it harder to have another. On the other hand, Hoz is legitimately young, will legitimately boost the gate, and isn't going to be that horrifically expensive on an annual basis.
2:55
Anything past like 7/140 or whatever starts to get really uncomfortable. But it's easier to justify that than, say, the DBacks going 6/206 for a 32-year-old Greinke.

What's with all the hate on cashner? I liked the guy when he was on the padres, what do you think?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
It's not hate. He just way outperformed his peripherals last year.

Scale of 1-10, Arrieta signs with the Phillies?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Not sure I can give you an answer on your terms, but I think the Phils are about as likely as any club on Arrieta. No clear favorite there for me.
2018 WS Rockies

Am I crazy now wanting Carlos Gonzalez back on the Rockies if they can get him on a 1 year prove it deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Maybe if they decided to use him at first or in a platoon role. But does that work for him? Going to be hard to get enough playing time unless he rakes and he will still have folks wondering about the Coors effects. Plus there's the negative health possibilities associated with playing at  altitude.
2:59
Just doesn't seem like the cleanest fit. Rox would be better off with a righty bat at first to leave a clearer potential role for McMahon.

So If I sign LoMo to platoon with Hanley....is their a right handed first baseman to platoon with Moreland.  Or would my better move be to sign Nunez and move him to platoon at first once Dustin comes back
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Only so many slugger platoons you can set up, b/c those guys can't play anywhere else on the diamond. I expect it'd be a sort of 3-way rotation between LoMo/Moreland/Hanley at 1B/DH in that scenario.

I'm back! Someone was at the door. For some reason they didn't know I was in the middle of a chat ... come on, people.
Domingo Santana
3:03
What are the odds I get traded with LoCain and Yelich added to the OF? Where do I go: CLE, OAK, or other?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Still feels likely unless they shift someone in to spend time at first base. Those two orgs seem like pretty solid possibilities but you can imagine others and it's still not defined.
3:04
That's what is most amazing about where things stand right now. There's this slowly thawing situation where there are numerous situations that seem like they have to go one way or another. Both FA and trade. But there's only ~6 weeks for it to happen in and camp will be ongoing the whole time!
3:05
There are going to be some camp sagas to watch. What if the Sox sluggers all look terrible? The Phillies starters get lit up? The young Yankees infielders struggle? All with the free agents sitting out there. Going to be fascinating.

3:06
If Arietta is willing to go 3-4 years on a higher AAV with the Phillies, do you believe the draft pick/international pool $ loss will deter them from making it happen, or do they jump at the opportunity?  They already lost both with the Santana signing, but can't see them parting with even more.
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Stings much less with the second hit. If anything that generally speaks in favor of it to an extent b/c it costs less than it does for teams still considering their first QO signing.
3:08
Another amazing thing about this offseason: nobody cares about the qualifying offer all that much all of a sudden! It still matters, of course, but ... that does sort of hint that there's still a strong tendency toward narrative-building.
Jackson Hole

Do you see the Indians making any additions
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Antonetti literally just said, about as plain as he could, that they aren't going to spend any significant money.
3:09
(Not ragging on the question ... just, he did literally just say it a few minutes ago, I think.)
