Not looking great. Seems he may have been ill-served turning down whatever it was the Rockies dangled in December, though we don't know what that was.
2:38
That said, panic mode on closers can always happen in a flash. ST injury, early-season disaster, etc. Not sure I see him getting a big contract unless/until one of those things happen, but it will be really fun to follow if that situation arises.
2:40
Sorry ... scrolling through a lotta repeat questions ..

Do the Rangers need to sign Alex Cobb to shore up the rotation? they've made little moves here and there, but it seems like he could be a usable cog in the machine
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
All indications are Rangers are not dropping any big contracts this winter. That obviously could to some extent be cover, but I'm more or less assuming they are out on anything but guys who fall in their lap.
Also they already seem to be lining up a 6-man rotation. Should be interesting.

If the Phillies sign Arrieta and Cobb, do they lose a 3rd and 4th round pick? Does the free agent penalty end for a team after they sign a given number of QO players?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Keeps going down the line. So there's a lesser penalty for each successive signing in a given year.

Can the Phils grab Moose cheap now and trade Franco for a backend starter?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Supposing they really don't think Maikel will turn it around -- I have no idea what they really think -- that general concept could be interesting. Still not sure they'd want to lock into Moustakas. The FO has been pretty interested in OBP, which is just not what Moose does.

What is the likelyhood of the Dbacks dfa or trade Tomas now that he seems to be the odd man out in the outfield?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Guess he could still be a bench slugger type. But how's that going to get his bat moving? It's a tough situation ... hard to see how they would be able to move much of the deal. Guess he could be optioned or even outrighted?

Hello. Will the Tribe make a trade for an outfielder? Thank you for your time.
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
You look at that SP depth and it does make you wonder. Especially when they have signed several non-roster relievers that could easily hold down pen slots (thus perhaps taking some of the space away from excess starters).

2:48
Which big free agents do you think will still be available on opening day?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
I expect there will be a couple. Hard to guess which b/c we don't know exactly how they feel about it.
2:49
Let's remember that Morales and Drew waited until mid-season to sign in the Year Of The Qualifying Offer. So it has happened before.

Do you like the vargas addition for mets rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
I get adding depth, but it felt kind of uninspiring.
2:50
They need a lot of things to break right to catch up to the Nats. Not sure they really have done enough to make it a reasonable possibility.
2:51
Also ... I couldn't help but laugh yesterday about the notion that the Mets waited out the market on Jay Bruce. It's exactly what we predicted heading into the winter, and now it is starting to feel like signing him was a missed chance to find some real value elsewhere on the market.
2:52
Not that they necessarily should have anticipated that guys like Dyson, Gomez, Dickerson would be available for minimal $/trade returns, but ... it sure would be nice to have re-allocated some of the Bruce money to turn Vargas into Cobb.

I like our guys. Do you like our guys?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
How venomously will you glare at me if I say no?

2:55
With the injury to Ryon Healy, do you think the Mariners could be a fit for Lucas Duda or Logan Morrison on a one-year deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Not sure the injury really matters to the evaluation all that much, though I guess it boosts the importance some. I think a lefty slugger should be a real consideration, esp since the market seems to be lining up to make one available at a nice price. Lind is another one still out there who ought to be even cheaper but was highly productive last year.
Cru Jones

What are your top 3 teams for landing Bryce Harper in 2019?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Let me just say this: we are close enough to begin seeing how some fits may or may not really work, but anyone who claims to have more than a best guess is not worth listening to.
HMMMMM no JD Martinez announcement today.
Drama!
2:58
BRB I want to note that on the site ...

Now, this could be nothing, but ... certainly seems to be taking longer than expected to wrap up the medical review.

Any reason my questions are not being answered?
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
You're one of many, many people all asking many , many questions. But hey you just hit the lotto!
Seriously ... try my best to see as many as possible and I answer as I'm able, but there is zero chance of getting to all of them, or one from everyone, or anything of the sort.
Billy Beane

How would you rate my offseason? Also what more should be done?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Ought to be prime time for checking into guys who have fallen through the cracks. Otherwise, they have mostly just rolled with what they have while adding Piscotty and giving out the most A's contract ever (Yusmeiro Petit, 2/10).
