Yeah I tend to agree with the voters here.
Michael
3:06
Do you see any Royals besides Danny Duffy being traded before or at the trade deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
After missing on Hoz, have to think the odds go up. He'd still make quite a lot of sense on quite a few teams. And the Royals really can't afford not to get value from some veterans -- especially Herrera -- after deciding not to sell last summer.
King of the North
3:09
If Elvis puts up another 20/20 season (as predicted on RosterResource) he has to opt out of his 4/50ish remaining, right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
As unlikely as it seemed as of this time last year, yeah, there's a realistic chance he opts out (or at least threatens to do so to drive an extension).

This is only speculation: the Red Sox could be taking out insurance on Martinez. That’s not instantaneous.
Not a bad thought.

3:10
Why didn't the Indians go get Corey Dickerson?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
For all we know they tried and didn't make as good an offer.
3:11
But again, Dickerson is a limited and not-cheap player, and there are lots of other options still out there, so understandable that some orgs think they can do better.

I barely got more money than Cameron Maybin despite signing in the same week. Who misread this market, my agent or the Marlins?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I still can't figure out what happened there. He got 1/11.5 the year before and put up a much better season.
Curtis
3:13
Do you see Perez come out from behind the plate and play some first base for K.C. in the near future?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
His value is as a catcher. This isn't Buster Posey.
JP
3:14
Of the MLBTR writers, who is the best baseball player?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Not sure about all the part-time staff, but I know I'm a much better player than Tim and Steve ... just b/c I know neither of them played in high school and I was a competent player at that level, ha.

Some of the San Diego blogs are kicking around the idea of a trade for Archer. With Renfroe part of the package. Do you see a good fit?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
The fact that Renfroe is now sort of pushed out of the picture does not make an Archer deal any more likely, in the least. It's an indication the Pads aren't that bullish on Renfroe that they have sorted it out this way in the first place.
3:17
Also, the Rays' FO has stated pretty clearly they aren't interested in dealing Archer/Kiermaier at this point. You don't say that publicly unless you pretty well believe it.
Danny
3:19
Just coincidence that Bryce Harper's dog is named "Wrigley"?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
It is well-established that he is a big fan of the history of the game. I'm sure he appreciates Wrigley Field. But the idea that his dog's name is a secret clue to his future intentions ...
3:20
Now, if he names his first-born Theo, we'll have a conspiracy worth exploring.
Tex
3:20
do you think the humidor in Az had any effect on JDR"s decision to bolt to Boston so quickly after the announcement?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
No I think it was the money.
3:21
Going to take a couple more and then I'll have to bolt ...
Satchel
3:22
Do you envision Pabloval as a back up corner IF if he shows an iota of promise in the spring? I remember him busting his hamstring at 1B way back when. He did the full splits picking it out the dirt!
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
He'll be competing for the last spot on the bench, I guess. It's hard to keep a guy with those limitations when he hasn't hit at all in recent seasons.
Blue Jays
3:23
How do you think Stroman feels that the Jays gave Garcia $10 million and he only got $6.5 in arbitration and he had way better numbers?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
I suspect he understands the way this all works and realizes that is not a reflection of anything but the market. If anybody reading this chat is confused as to why Stroman earns less than Garcia, I encourage you to learn about the arbitration process (which we cover extensively at MLBTR).
Manny Machado
3:25
Odds of me taking an extension?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Approaching zero
Chris
3:25
Betances for Wacha? Salaries and 2 yrs control almost identical. Fills needs for both teams.
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Cards need the rotation depth still. And I suspect Wacha would be a beast in the bullpen if it came down to it.
Jeremy
3:26
Sarcasm about JD? or you think something went wrong?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
I have no idea, but it is somewhat unusual that JDM was so visibly at the facility and such but that it is now taking this long.
That being said, worth bearing in mind ...

Martinez arrived at Fenway South on Wednesday morning. That a physical would take two days is routine in the offseason when trades or signings are made. Just more attention on it now because it’s spring training.
Ted Lerner
3:27
When does my friend Scott come calling regarding Jake?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
When does he not?
3:28
I'm sure he's been given the Lerners an earful all winter.
