Does Archer get traded this month or do the Rays wait until July?  Most likely destinations?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
Stays for now ... reevaluate in run-up to deadline.
Nebraska Tim
2:31
What do you think will turn out to be the best offseason acquisition?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
For value, so far, hard to argue with Carlos Gomez at 1/4.
Jimbo
2:31
Orioles 100 loss team?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Doubtful.
But the Giants wouldn't have expected kind of outcome in 2017. The way it could happen for a team like BAL is for a dreadful, injury marred first half followed by a massive deadline sell-off.

I like your chats much better, because that Jason guy is a Giants fan!
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
He's from San Diego.

Am I a mid-season trade to a playoffs hopeful?
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
Maybe but, again, that profile just isn't valued right now.

Any word on cubs pursuing extensions with the non-bryant youngsters
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
No and I'm not sure I really see much cause to do so in most cases. Contreras would be the one guy I could imagine them targeting.
The infielders - let them prove it before you hand over the dough. Likewise, Schwarber/Almora. Could see an argument for Hendricks if they could get a really nice price but there's no particular reason to rush with him. But if you could just lock up Contreras now while he's pre-arb ...

Is a Domingo Santana for Mike Clevinger swap make sense for both parties?
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
I think if that particular swap made sense for those teams, it might already be done. But generally still makes sense for CLE to be considering pitching-for-bat deals. And oppo for MIL; though the whole Braun to first thing does seem to resolve the issues in no small part, they really still need to try to improve that rotation.

A trade for Realmuto & paying Arrieta would put the Nats as the clear favorite in the NL, no?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
No. Might push them up to co-favs with the Dodgers.
2:39
Some might feel I'm slighting the Cubs there ... but CHC was to some extent forced to make additional moves b/c of guys departing and the like. Nats were largely intact and didn't need to do much to hold serve on talent.
As currently constituted, I think LAD is the favorite.

With this year’s market, wouldn’t low payroll teams be well suited to go bargain shopping? Nothing extravagant, but buy low, sell high guys? We’ve not even be seeing many of those type deals this year.
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
Not sure I'd say that. I will have to check to be sure, but I glanced recently and I believe the number of teams largely sitting out FA except for some lower signings (say $20MM total or less) is the same as usual.
2:42
Now, those clubs are also sending away payroll. The big difference from past years, best I can tell? It's that the big spenders aren't spending as big
2:43
So, we've heard this idea that "everyone is rebuilding!" Not sure it's actually all that different from usual, though there may still be some validity in that. Really, it's that there are no clubs just going all out with multiple big contracts.
Really could be that the presence of so much talent next winter is having an impact, as well as what may be happenstance that the Dodgers and Yankees are re-setting their luxury obligations in the same year.

Hello Jeff.  Do you think MLB is happy with what the Jeter group did to the Marlins?  If they knew, do you think they might have blocked the sale?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
They knew. And while I think there's some reason to think more orgs should be trying harder to win at any given time, I think the new Marlins ownership is generally doing the right thing.
2:46
The finances surely were a mess. They couldn't really build around Stanton. There was a need to build up a better business strategy. Etc etc.
Help
2:47
pick three for keeper league: Altuve, Votto, Stanton and Gary Sanchez
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
I don't do fantasy questions, generally, but my dude ... you have to axe Votto if this is a keep-forever format.

CJ Cron has a mediocre season. heard it here first.
Jeffrey Todd

Bold prediction.
A Different Ells Inquriy
2:48
Ellsbury said the Yankees never asked him about this NTC, but this is because no club actually showed interest in him, right? No reason to ask if there's not a deal in place, correct?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Pretty much yea.

I have a bet that Bautista won't be on a roster come opening day.  I figure even if he's given an offer, he might not be willing to accept his true value at this point.  do I win the bet?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Decent chance of it for sure. I might lean your way. I'm not sure he has MLB offers to choose from, and who knows if he's willing to take a minors deal.

Which Bud Norris do you think the Cardinals will get in 2018. The dominant first half, or the awful second half?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
The passable overall Bud Norris.
Jeff
2:51
Do you see Jayson Werth getting a deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
See above re Bautista
